Great trumpet solo! I'm gonna take the liberty and borrow some licks and ideas for my solo on this piece 😊

FANTASTIC!!! I'VE GROWN TO JUST LOVE THIS BAND ON "EVERYTHING" THEY DO!! I ALSO AM A LEAD TPT PLAYER FOR THE PAST 40 YEARS AND STILL HAVE A STRONG DOUBLE G & A. TO ME THE 3 KEY INGREDIENTS TO A GREAT JAZZ BAND ARE STRONG BASS AND DRUMMER, AND A LEAD TRUMPET THAT REALLY KNOWS THE STYLE AND THE BAND LISTENS TO HIM OR HER AND EVERYONE PLAYS JUST A 10 % DYNAMIC UNDER THE LEAD TRUMPET AND KNOWS HOW TO INTERPRET PHRASING FOR THE BAND TO FOLLOW AND EMULATE!! INNER PARTS IN EVERY SECTION SHOULD MAKE SURE THE SECTION IS PLAYING STYLE, DYNAMICS AND PHRASING ESP. SAX SOLIS ON BUDDY'S TUNES WRITTEN BY DON MENZA. YOUR BAND ALWAYS HITS THE BALL OUT OF THE PARK ON EVERY FACET MENTIONED ABOVE. SOLOISTS ARE THE REAL KEY TO A GREAT BAND. YOU CAN HAVE A BAND WITH PHENOMINAL SECTION WORK, BUT WHEN A SOLOIST PLAYS, HE OR SHE SHOULD LISTEN TO THE RECORDINGS OF THE TUNE IF POSSIBLE AND "STEAL" / BORROW IDEAS FROM OTHER SOLOISTS AND NUANCES OF THE TUNE. MEMORIZE THE CHORD PROGRESSION SO IT ALLOWS YOU MORE "FREEDPOM" AS YOU DRAW FROM YOU PRECONCEIVED AND SPONTANIOUS MELODIC LICKS THAT ARE LIKE A STORY BEING TOLD. YOU ARE REALLY TEACHING ALL OF THE ABOVE EACH TIME I HEAR YOU GUYS PLAY!!!! SUPER KUDOS TO THE PLAYERS AND ESPECIALLY CHRIS BRUYA WHO GUIDES YOU DOWN THE PATH OF REAL JAZZ!!!

@@timeisnow7676 she opted to become a music educator, which kind of makes me respect her even more. But she plays in gig bands in the Seattle area now. She has a website with a lot of background info. Every soloist I ever heard in this band over the years has great tone as well.

Mr. Bruya, your mastery of the basie style is wonderful and your students are amazingly talented! I have played sammy's arrangements as a lead trumpet player and as the director of my own, adult jazz ensemble in Troy, Ohio and your band has the best interpretation I've ever heard since The Count passed away!

in all these videos i see one thing . They rhythm sections are always so "light in the pants"" Ie Zero drive! Usually the ensemble is good! However the Rhythm sections are never really laying it down!
