Mr. Bruya, your mastery of the basie style is wonderful and your students are amazingly talented! I have played sammy's arrangements as a lead trumpet player and as the director of my own, adult jazz ensemble in Troy, Ohio and your band has the best interpretation I've ever heard since The Count passed away!

There are always a few good musicians in any group but it takes a teacher/director who has leadership qualities to get ALL the young people to perform up to/near the top of their abilities. When that happens the energy transfers back and forth to each member. I remember back in the sixties a professional musician visited our college dance band and rehearsed us. He got more from all of us that day than we had ever shown before.

Wow.. Very nice. Loved it. Not many play this song unsheeted nowaday. 7 min max. We played it note for note and per section. We asked for, school paid for and we got the sheet and we adapted to the music. This was the 1st song that we've played with sheets and I mean 6 sheets. Moonlight serenade, In the mood were played from memory note for note. The rest of JHS gigs are mem too. If you can't give a thumb up, go watch the grass grow!

Lots of kudos for her solo, and deservedly so, but can we also take a minute to appreciate the fantastic ensemble playing here? Props to the lead trumpet and bone.

I don’t care I just have around Professional Band leaders that don’t even they almost have their own arrangers . Chris is doing a great job here in a most unlikely State , I mean listen to the applause nothing compared to IU under the late Dr. David Baker head of Jazz Studies in Jacobs School Of Music . My hometown of Indianapolis was loaded with Jazz greats & hanging around those cats your enthusiasm soars .. Wes Montgomery, David ( trombone ) JJJohnson , Larry Liggett Big Band & on & on . I think Central Washington is very fortunate to a Big Band program like this & Hanna Mowrey is very pretty 👍

If teacher wrote the arrangement why is he reading the music I know they’re young & this is only part of their part of their education so I’d say both very good kids are outstanding . Nice to see college kids interested in real music , must be a very good teacher congratulations to you sir !

The composer/arranger of this piece is the legendary Sammy Nestico, not the band director.
@mikeprevost8650 Жыл бұрын
All of those kids are music majors, either performance or music education majors. This is a major part of their education. This ensemble has performed at various venues, including the prestigious Monterrey Jazz festival. CWU is one of the leading schools in the country for music majors, right up there with North Texas. Some graduates have gone on to professional careers.

@@mikeprevost8650 thanks for replying I’d put this teacher & his talented kids up there with any school that’s had the good fortune of experiencing of Stan Kenton . Of all the band leaders whom have spent a week with Stan’s band like Indiana University improved their musicianship & enthusiasm . I’m glad Central Washington Jazz band is on You Tube I watch the band quite a bit along with that outstanding Music Director Joan ( John ) Chamorro from St Andreu School Of Music Spain & his kids ages 12 and up .

Stupid question?....do trumpet need a mic? They're too damn loud already behind me
@chrisbruya23134 жыл бұрын
The mics are for multitrack recording and to bring up solos in the room. Other wise we play all acoustic.
@chrispettus25323 жыл бұрын
Haha, spoken like a lead trombone player. I remember seeing a recording of he trumpet section of the Big Phat Band doing a sound check. They sounded great, then we hear the lead trombone player yelling out to the sound engineer, "uh, we don't need trumpets in the monitors (the speakers that are aimed at the band so the band can hear themselves)". True that.
