The hominids didn't just use the "tool" to gain power over others. They used it to gain water rights so that they could survive.

youtube.com/@WillWatches The love focus is there because... it's the fifth element. I mean, nothing about this film is particularly realistic, but the speed of Corben falling for Leeloo is set up when we first meet him sad and lonely and working as a cabbie. The cab scene is one of those 'love at first sight' things that are completely a fictional construct, but you can forgive it seeing as how she's 'perfect'. That _doesn't_ mean she knows everything about humanity from the last 5000 years, but she does remember who she is and what she is and what she has to do. Nor does it mean she's an indestructible fighting machine - as the diva points out, Leeloo's fragile but *not* physically. Being found in a vent after having a machine gun unloaded at you seems pretty reasonable though, no matter who you are. The story is a basic good versus evil story, Besson wrote it as a teenager. And stylistically - do you really want the conclusion to be her watching _another_ reel of video clips, instead of a crazy 5 minutes of characters freaking out as they try to figure out how to save the world and an admission of the one truly good thing about humanity (film opinion, not mine) - love? A perfect being who's loved defeating a planet of pure evil who could never be loved. Makes sense to me.

I wouldnt want this to be a literal blind reaction...but a nute reaction would be good ..maybe using subtitles and 'body language', as he assuned from HAL at one stage... (As for describing the Stargate's "horizontal" versus vertical effects...as I said earlier re the title suggests, it's not a "blind" reaction per se and we can all (usually?!) tell the difference between up and down, sideways et al ... I hope this Reactor will watch the film again on his own time, not soeaking throughout, just absirbing every detail: visual, audible, imagined, actual... 'The Starchild' rather than "a baby" ... As with Moonwatcher...he "didnt know what to do ...but he would think of something."

I didn't hear you mention that Duncan Jones is the son of David and Angela Bowie. The one thing I think you're overlooking is Colter Stevens as Sean should bring a boatload more joie de vivre to Christina's life than Sean would. We don't know a whole lot about Sean but we can certainly guess he doesn't have the experiential appreciation of life and the value of love that Colton has. Now we can probably deduce that Christina wouldn't be with a complete loser but to think that he'd approach the extraordinary level of humanity displayed by Stevens. I think Christina's life will be several levels richer with Colter than with Sean. That's not a little thing.

I've always really liked this movie. So well made in every aspect. It even hits the feelings. I've never bought the physics of it, but I'm always a hard sell on that stuff. I had no idea this was directed by the same who directed Moon, but that makes sense. I loved Moon. I'll throw out a recommendation because I haven't seen anyone react to it in some months, another good movie, which I happened to have named myself for, Alita: Battle Angel (2019). action, scifi

"Physics of it" for real? Do you think about "physics of it" while watching "Back to the Future" or "Terminator" or "Groundhog Day"? It's just a plot device.. It's one of best movies Jake Gyllenhaal has ever been in, and it's a crime that this the only reaction to it. Reactors are such pathetic hiveminds

I graduated from a Catholic college and during my time there I joined the student church choir. We sang the old standard hymns as well as some pop inspired and folk rock music at church. Believe it or not we sang the Lord’s Prayer to the tune of “Eight Days A Week” by the Beatles. I had never listened to the band very much and I began to discover more of their catalogue.

The only wholesome time they spent with each other was when they spent time all together. The moment they tried to separate themselves they all fall apart one way or another until that moment in time they come together again. The only way they work is as a throuple.

I love this movie so much but there is one scene that brings me out of it and I hate it so much. It's when they are on an incredibly large mountain it's so cold, important breathing choices etc then out of the blue they just turn around and there's a full on field full of people playing football when moments before you can see around them there is nothing like that at that height.

23:10 - Since you asked...the first computer to defeat a reigning chess champion was "Deep Blue" in 1997, defeating Garry Kasparov. So, back in 1968 when "2001" was released we were still decades away from a computer capable of playing chess at a high level.

It's intersting seeing even male reactors flinching, and saying 'uh oh, better not do this or that' in response to Celie's interactions with Mister. The viewers just kinda get caught up in going along with the abuse. The presence of toxic masculinity has become so commonplace that no one even bats an eye at its presence. Around the world, it is so well known that even you were able to predict its patterns in this movie before it happened. How incredibly sad.

The 3 pov were amazing! You can't blame the mother for protecting the last member of her family and especially her own son. Seeing the Hori-sensei from her perspective made you want to punch him. After discovering the perspective from the teacher, you can see his kindness, his loving attention for his students but also his naivety. Make me shed a tear... And then, the perspective of the two boys, too young to know what to do with this feeling. Yori is more clear with what he wanted than Minato. Still wanted to protect each other. Just don't like the principal of the school. Come on! To protect the reputation of the school, her husband needed to take the blame and go in jail! Why didn't she quit her job but dared to force Hori-sensei to resign? Great movie! Really!
