I believe the Pope in this movie is supposed to be Pope John Paul II, I got to perform for Pope John Paul II with my college choir, he really did love music and would definitely have been clapping along in the back while bobbing his head

Sister Mary Lazarus was played by Hollywood legend Mary Wickes. She often played the comedic role in many of the biggest Hollywood films from the 1930s thru the 1960s. She was a very popular and well-loved actress throughout her career. It was great to see her have a career resurgence in the 80s and 90s.

She played a nun in another movie too, the awesome Hayley Mills movie The Trouble With Angels

Dropped acid when my wife and I were exploring the pyramid and ruins at Chitzen Itza on our honeymoon. We had never seen this movie. Unexpectedly, the tour bus guides showed Sister Act on the way back to the hotel. Everybody on the bus was loving the movie, laughing and enjoying the music. It was awesome and capped off a wonderfully spiritual experience.

Thank you so much for this blessed reaction!!! This was one of my mum’s favorite films! You’ve got to watch the sequel Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit!!! If you’d love musical films, here’s a few suggestions: Disney’s Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (which stars Brandy, Whitney Houston, Bernadette Peters, and Whoopi Goldberg), Hocus Pocus 1-2 (Kathy Najimy aka Mary Patrick stars in these films with Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler), Disney’s Descendants 1-4, Joyful Noise (Dolly Parton and Queen Latifa), Hairspray (2007), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Annie (1982 & 1999), Mary Poppins, Matilda The Musical, The Sound of Music, Burlesque, and Cats (1998). 🙏🎶✝️📿💋👠😎❤️🖤🤍

The song playing when they went out into the street was C&C Music Factory - Just a Touch of Love. It was very popular back then. Same group that did Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now).

Maggie Smith's son, Toby Stephens is a talented actor who appeared in the Lost in Space TV reboot and the TV series Black Sails. Both shows were good but Black Sails rocks.

I graduated from a Catholic college and during my time there I joined the student church choir. We sang the old standard hymns as well as some pop inspired and folk rock music at church. Believe it or not we sang the Lord’s Prayer to the tune of “Eight Days A Week” by the Beatles. I had never listened to the band very much and I began to discover more of their catalogue.

I thought it was really funny that you thought "I will Follow Him" was Bohemian Rhapsody at the start. I'd never really thought about it, but the opening notes and rhythm are similar. That's great.

Oh, if youre watching Whoopie movies, youve got to see what she won an Oscar for best supporting actress in: Ghost. Unless youve already seen it. Its not "high brow Cinema ", but shes so charmingly good in it. 👍

Wendy Makkena who played Sister Mary Robert had her singing voice dubbed by Andrea Robinson. Sister Act II: Back in the Habit is worth the watch. The only returning characters from the first film are the nuns. You’re the second reactor I’ve viewed who connected Sister Mary Patrick to John Candy.

When I was a kid in the 90’s, my family bought the VHS to a Land Before Time and Sister Act at the same time and watched them one after the other. To this day, my family still makes fun of me for crying in A Land Before Time one minute then dancing and laughing to Sister Act the next.

This movie and the second one is timeless, i hope we become a third one and the one nun is from hocus pocus and Dame Maggie Smith is also in Downtown Abbey
