I just got an electric violin and a zoom a1 x four, it's quite overwhelming with the options, which effects should I start with to get a natural acoustic sound?
@ShawnBoucke3 күн бұрын
Start with an equalizer. They have special violin ones, but any would work. That way you can adjust the eq. You can put the looper before effects so you can record something simple and then mess around with the effects so you can just sit and listen. Add a reverb as well. I like to use a hall reverb for a more natural tone. Just those two will get you far.

You are running mono and stereo out... Could I run stereo in mono out? Like 2 guitars plugged in going to 1 amp?

About the Zoom A1X I agree manipulating stuff in real time sucks as a practice tool I think it's incredible. Though I stopped playing violin and moved over to wind/brass I think it's really cool that the A1X is one of the only pedals on the market built for acoustic/electric non guitar players. How many more distortions do we have to cycle through on other multi fx products to get to the good stuff I can use lol? Having EQs and sims tailored for us on something not that expensive is rare and that mic preamp it comes with pretty useful. Anyway I am in the process of building a board around the A1X first in my chain so I am clearly biased 😂. I love the 7 string sound btw.

it would have been useful to mute your mic, that alone was creating an stereo effect, even when the pedal was off

They are completely separate. The mic was mono, and did not receive any sound from the pedal. Any stereo effect is just from the pedal itself.

HX was dull and I could hear the frequencies being cut it sounded artificially natural. Fishman has the most "acoustic sound" and Zoom sounded great but electrified but not synthetic in that bad way.

totally agree with the Zoom A1x as a first pedal, totally approachable, made for violin and a good crash course on how effects work. And much cheaper than 1 pedal from a flagship.

I got a question about violin weight, is that 7 strings heavy? I tryied once a 4strings cheap electric and it was awfully heavy and unconfortable to play xd I am acoustic w/pick up right now and recently bought a box that mostly accept the high impedance and output a very low impedance so the sound stop beeing little xd (it also got a boost and eq made specifically for violin) and I am thinking about getting the zoom a1x to start messing with the sound since it has a bit of everything Also do you think the fishman aura is the best compared to tonedeq or platinum? I was thinking on that but for now I am poor and looking into the zoom x'd
@ShawnBouckeАй бұрын
This one is not. I just checked the weight and it's about 2.5 pounds. Acoustic it's about 1.5. I used to have a 6 string that was something like 4 lbs. I know Fortevio can make it even lighter depending on the build. It's surprising. I think some of the cheaper ones strength the body with metal which adds a lot of weight instead of hard woods.
@kamikan22Ай бұрын
Wow nice weight! And probably very confortable to play if it is well balanced!

My A string just will not get up to the right pitch on my WAV. I've had this issue multiple times. I thread it through the mechanism, pull it as tight as i can, start tightening, by the time it reaches the A an octave below what it's supposed to be, the mechanism is already tightened way more thatn the other strings. I can't get it up the octave without it slipping out of place. any idea what i might be doing wrong? I've had this issue a few times and it's always the A string.
@ShawnBouckeАй бұрын
Hmm. What brand/model of A string?
@AlexCrick-r1wАй бұрын
@@ShawnBoucke It's Evah Pirazzi. All the strings are this brand, but only the A string has this issue
@ShawnBouckeАй бұрын
It's odd that only the A string is the issue. I would assume they are all similar elasticity because they all have similar cores however possibly because the A string is wrapped in aluminum and the D/G are usually silver that might have something to do with it. The only thing I can think of is to use a different brand for the a string. Possibly something with a metal core. The "NS design" set is just Helicore. I'm not a big fan of how those feel under my fingers, but any metal core string should do great.

I have the Xvive and the Swiff Audio. I play guitar in an 80's metal cover band (Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc), so mostly pretty high gain tones. I found the Xvive worked really well and without incident onstage, but would sometimes get TONS of interference when practicing at home. The Swiff Audio had such an overbearing compression and noise gate that it destroyed my tone and I found it completely unusable for my situation. I think it's time to try the Lekato system. Thanks for the video, this was exactly the shootout I was looking for.
@ShawnBouckeАй бұрын
I'm curious if the issues at home are due to a Wi-Fi router. At least for me my audio was not disrupted from Wi-Fi, but my Wi-Fi was disrupted by the unit.

@ShawnBoucke2 ай бұрын
Totally! You just need a wireless transmitter like the ones I show here. You can find decent ones for under $50 if you don't need to go far away from the amp. They usually use frequencies like 2.4ghz or radio waves instead of Bluetooth though. Is there a model where you can send a signal from one transmitter to two receivers at the same time? I want to split the signal into two speakers (Everse 8) at the same time.
@ShawnBoucke2 ай бұрын
I have not had a chance to try this, but theoretically it should work. I'm not sure how the Swiff and Lekato pick their channels, but something like the Xvive you could set the receivers to the same channel. It could work with the other ones too, but since they seem to search for a connection when turned on, it may set a random channel just for that connection.
@piotrb79342 ай бұрын
@@ShawnBoucke I tried to set it up with Lekato WS-60 (I have 2 sets) and unfortunately it didn't work. I have no way to test whether other models would work. Thank you for your reply.

The one thing I cant get past with electric violin is how....unnatural it sounds? Like, obviously any kind of pickup that's not a microphone strapped to an acoustic is going to sound off, but even with the effects, there's just something that's missing to the sound. At least to my ears
@ShawnBoucke2 ай бұрын
I agree. When it's live and you have the added resonance of the room, plus adding more layers with a looper it can sound much more natural. Over the compressed audio on KZbin and then out of peoples phones or computers doesn't help.

I did upload the violin and viola ones and tested them out. There is an Aura app for the computer than has 600+ other images you can try. I found a few I liked the most. I then went through the other 100+ already on and found that the Dreadnought #7 actually sounded the best to my ears even though it's not "made" for the violin. I was more rounded and surprisingly natural. I cannot remember which violin ones I sometimes switch to but I'll check later.

Hey Shawn! Can you do a review of this one and the Fortevio electrical violins. And also maybe a comparison between these two and the NS CR? 🎻🎻🎻
@ShawnBoucke3 ай бұрын
Hey, I don't have the instruments anymore as I sold the previous ones for the Fortevio. Just a quick comparison. The CR model, which is going to be available in six string very soon if not already has a lot of onboard adjustments because it's an active pick up. You can adjust the tone volume and the way the bridge picks up the frequencies to make pizz more clear. The set up with the shoulder rest is really nice and I used a strap with it to keep it up because since it was not touching my collarbone, I did find I was using a bit more shoulder muscle. The one I am playing here from EVL is fantastic for the price. This model is quite a bit heavier than any other ones, and the craftsmanship, better than anything I could ever do falls a bit short compared to the other two I'm comparing it. The brand of pickup from the bridge is the exact same as some other companies use, the violin maker does not make those himself. That could be a good thing as it's interchangeable but it's nothing that is far away different from other companies like Wood. The forteVio is my toppick. The weight of them are extremely light, the sound straight from the instrument is more natural because the maker built his own bridges. And, if you were designing the instrument, you basically can custom make them however you want. it's slightly cheaper EVL price but a lot cheaper than the CR.

I thought the HX stomp sounded slightly better than the others, with the A1X four coming second place. I would expect with some additional tweaking the A1X four could sound even better. I actually have the A1XFour the one thing I have not managed so far with it, is to create good distortion.

That’s a fiddle, not a violin. A violin has four strings, meanwhile a fiddle has five.
@ShawnBoucke3 ай бұрын
That's incorrect. A fiddle is a violin. Often people will say a fiddle is specifically a violin that plays "fiddle music." also, a five string violins are quite rare. Only recently have people started to use it in popular music as well as fiddle music. However, the C-string never usually rings as well compared to that of a viola.
