I hate if I can’t walk in a game. However, I’ve been walking so much in games, for so long, it adds soooooooo much extra time to beat my games. Sometimes I have to try to make my self run around like normal, but it always lowers my enjoyment.
@Lobisomen7912 сағат бұрын
i often do that too, you miss so much details when just running. i often pause to look around too, not just the usual camera down on the ground infront of the char angle. once in an mmo i was doing a introductory quest to get accustomed to a new town, i noticed another player on the same quest. i was just walking while they're running and porting everytime, eventually they started waiting for me on purpose to see me walk up to the poi or npc because they found it interresting and funny somebody really takes the time to do that kind of thing

At one point I considered being a level designer, so I do walk quite a bit in those games. Couple other therapeutic favourites I have are: 1. Driving around in NFSMW, being chased by cops and escaping them, while the media player is playing uncharacteristically calm songs, makes me feel perfect balance between swagger and serenity. 2. Button mashing in hack'n'slash games with low volume audio, and my own alt metal hybrid rock playlist in background. Try these, you'll be hooked.

Ah my type of gamer, i love to do this. Not exclusively but some gaming sessions it's great to do just as you have described. I've memory of some sessions in GTA where i would walk and drive normally for hours without even touching a gun or getting into a fight. And i was continually amazed at the attention to detail in the world that i would never notice playing it 'normally'

The sad part is that I want to replay it. I want to fight Godfry and Malenia again, I want to fight Rellana, Mesmer and Midra. But when I think that I will have to once again aimlessly ride on torrent, collecting tree fragments, defeating for a tree spirit/guardian for 100th time, it kill all the desire I had.

Its not the difference between walking and running. Its the problem of the slow walking and running animations. The most new games feel clunky and its like you try to play and someone is breaking. old games have fun game mechanics moving and fighting was more then just movement from A to B. I like the movement from games like gothic or dungeon siege. It was direct. In red dead redemption 2 everything is like move over jelly and in reallife its not like that.

Absolutely agree. Immersion for me is an absolute must on great, open word games. Developers, artist. designers and directors work hard to create environmental masterpieces. Cant count how many times i walked with Geralt in Witcher 3. And as new games are created, new worlds in UE 5 unravel I can not wait to wrap myself up in these fantastic places. But I will walk to them not run. Thank you.

Just think of the most annoying things squeakers do in multi-player games. They Sprint and constantly jump everywhere. Among many other annoying things this is what makes me hate multi-player games. They kill the immersion.

In car games: I leave the garage and cruise down the street, take right, go straight, maybe pullover at the side, and maybe turn the car off. Turn the car on and cruise again until and find straight. Then I let that shut rip down the road. WAAAP! WAAAAAAP! WAAAAAAAAAP! 👀

Not only is walking more immersive, but having the freedom allows the player more freedom. Even if I find myself running most of them time, 3rd person games that run at full speed the whole time feels like I don’t have much control over the character. Maybe it makes the game feel more responsive when I can either walk super slow by slightly moving the stick forward, walk normal by pressing it kind of forward, jog when it’s all the way forward, and sprint with the help of some kind of sprint button. Walking is a crucial aspect to a 3rd person games (and maybe other kinds as well) for so many reasons. I mean, even being able to control your speed in a side scroller game is important.
@TheeOddOrange3 күн бұрын
Fully agree with all this man, being able to have that control and freedom is what makes it work so well 😎

I used to do this way back in Asheron's Call. I made one character who was a complete non-combatant. You could level in the game by simply doing crafting, and I actually leveled her up to the mid-40's doing nothing but. I made the decision early on to never run, unless there was some threat that needed avoiding. There is most definitely a different vibe to walking as opposed to running constantly. While the views were not so spectacular in AC, in games these days they are spectacular. In my current playthrough of Palworld, I specifically built my main base so that the building faces out to look at the big tree in the distance. I always sign off standing there. I think I need to start walking more. Great video.

Never heard of that game before, but non combat runs are always interesting. And also, thank you!

What an amazing video and subject. I have added to that in my own gameplay, I have totally removed the music. My thought is that the music is dictating how I perceive the surroundings, it dictates how "I should feel", by turning off the music, is it no longer the music but the surroundings. It can be a real eye-opener to walk into a cave that normally is accompanied by "scary" music, and then instead just looking at it without the music, you may even find the cave cozy and interesting. You do also not have music in the sky, dictating how you are supposed to feel in real life. Try it out, it takes some to get used to, it starts out being boring and "killing the game" but give it time, and you may find out that it feels a lot more realistic, you do no longer know if there is danger or if it's a "happy place", you find out by the action of the game, instead by the tune to the music. :-)

I've always noticed how differently games play when you're solo versus in a group. A lot of the time playing solo I will take time going through areas to explore and take it all in. But when you're in a group the vibe completely changes and everyone is sprinting through so as to not get left behin or miss out on anything. Horror type games especially.
@TheeOddOrange3 күн бұрын
Yeah I know what you mean, would be cool if groups sometimes took their time haha
@tropicalfruit45716 күн бұрын
I do that sometimes, and it definitely makes the experience more grounded, or in case of bosses, a bit more epic. I remember when I 1st entered into Pontiff Sulyvahn fight in Dark Souls 3, and because the boss was still and far away, and the music started off gently I naturally chose to walk towards him rather than run. That felt so epic, and I think the music was designed for it, because the moment he starts his 1st attack when you walk, the music really picks up the tempo at that moment. In open worlds I also avoid fast travel. In RDR2 I purposefully didn't even unlock the ability, and whenever I wanted to actually save some time I'd take the train. I also had the radar off and looked at the map as I went and it felt interesting. You can still check the way real quick if you have a waypoint set, but I got to the point where some areas became very recognisable, and it felt like I actually do go to these parts of the world regularly, rather than going there to buy some ammo and find a quest. There was a lot of sightseeing done by walking and riding in that game.
@elmondark6 күн бұрын
It feels like you're missing most of the game by constantly running. I wish there was a toggle for walk/run, on console, rather than just light tap stick. I always think about how much time devs put into making the game, only for ppl to just speed-run through it. Also it's really funny how we're more impressed about game graphics, than stuff IRL :p we should def pay more attention to our surroundings IRL too.

One thing I absolutely love about Kingdom Come Deliverance is that NPCs react to the way you move, and it might actually have consequences. There is a pretty populated city, where it is almost impossible to fully gallopp through without hitting anyone, but if you do, the game will treat it as "reckless riding" and fine you, or even send you to jail if you hurt someone. Also, there is a lot of hidden ambush encounters that can easily be seen from afar when trotting along but can catch you off-guard and seriously wound or even kill you if you are just sprinting in careless
