Invaluable information Scott, I got completely different experience after practicing these things. Also I pulled mouthpiece a bit out and it’s drastically changed my perception of whole process.

Hey Scott. I just began to play sax and I was wandering whether I can make my sax whisper by using a soft (1.5) reed or do I need to move up and take a stiffer reed?

I have a feeling I'll be signing up!!! Thanks!!! But which mouthpiece with which opening do you play on this video? Sorry if you've already answered 1000 times... For my part, I play on a King 20 with several high quality mouthpieces. I spare you the list. Does the microphone magnify your sound? I find it beautiful. I don't speak English very well, which explains my naive questions... Thank you anyway for your commitment....

Hi Scott you always use these coloured mouthpiece. Have you ever try the Joddy Jazz pieces and if you have what do you think of them in sound and build quality ?
@ScottPaddock2 ай бұрын
Hey! I use a Barkley Brazil Kustom pop 7 blue. Yes, when I was trying mouthpieces a while back I tried several Jody Jazz mps, and I recently tried a DV hard rubber. Unfortunately, nothing I played was a good fit for me. Jody's mps are high quality, but I couldn't get the cut and projection I like out of them. The closest mp to the one I play now is a Theo Wanne blue ART durga. I was fighting between that one and my Barkley when I was trying them out about 8 years ago. For tenor I play a Syos Scott Paddock, which is by far the best fitting tenor mp I have ever played.

I'm studying sax for 3 years . I can't improve my tune in 1 millimeter.. I'm thinking to move to trumpet . I think you can't notice too much difference in tune as saxophone (my naive impression ). What do you guys opinion ?

Hey! I tried the whisper soft long tones and my intonation really goes up when playing them. Why is that and what should I do to fix it??

I'm striving for a soft, soulful noir sound on my tenor.
Scott I’m trying to achieve for romantic saxophone sound. My fiancé loves saxophone music and I’m trying to get my sound as if I’m in a church with a romantic sound

I had a pretty good tone on saxophone the very first time I picked one up, at age 15, in 1973. Your sound is your sound is your sound, and no amount of practice, mouthpiece, reed, etc. is going to alter that. Chick Corea said I had a great sound. Ravi said I sounded beautiful. Of course, I've played my Mark VI tenor itself over 70,000 hours since 1973....
