THANK YOU SO MUCH! Milton Katims conducting Seattle Symphony Orchestra performing the whole canival for the entire Seattle Public Schools District #1 6th-grade class is what got me really going in this music bizzz. I COULD SEE THE ELEPHANT prancing adjacent to the proscenium with my eyes closed. 58 years ago still can zanx manx

OMG I HADNT REALIZED UNTIL I HEARD IT THAT THE SECOND HALF WAS ODE TO JOY!! I learned it in 7th grade!!

I've learnt the piece on my 6-string bass, where it can be played entirely in the 1st position. But now I see much more beauty in this music and understand that I have a lot of work to do in intonating. The smoothness in that slide Bb-Eb, the delicacy in going up the octave on G are beautiful and educating.

Thanks this video helps, I’ve gotta learn this for my all state audition and I can’t read music well so I appreciate it 👍

Man... the tonal quality of this bass gives me a feeling akin to watching maple syrup from Vermont run down the sides of a stack of fresh sourdough pancakes... thick, syrupy... delicious!

Is it 4/4 size or smaller? It looks enormous.
@GeckoBass Жыл бұрын
It’s looks like a 3/4 and only seems a lot bigger because Barry isn’t super tall, but I also don’t have very much experience with full sizes so take this with a grain of salt.

It’s an E-string extension, allowing playing below the usual open E.

"the reason to live to play this piece" works also as "the reason to live, to play this piece" . Great, comma or not. I love the way you teach, the way you play, Mr. Lieberman.

An orchestral bassist I used to know did a combination of the "D-String" and "G-String" versions. Everything except the last phrase was the former version; I wonder what the strategy or desired effect was?

The bassist that influenced Britten’s bass parts was Robert Meyer. Meyer was Britten’s bassist and librarian. He ended up principle bass in the Vancouver Symphony. Meyer joked that you had to be careful warming up as Britten would listen and write it into your part.

Your videos are so, so, so helpful to any bassist. I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate the high quality commentary, the closeup shots of the fingerboard and the bow, and the moderate tempo with which you take your demonstrations. It makes working out difficult fingerings far less daunting!
