Can the victron Orion work with both standard and smart alternators? Does the Orion protect the alternator if the battery bms cuts the battery off while charging causing a spike in voltage from the alternator?
@TheJDWay
@TheJDWay Күн бұрын
Yes I believe they work with either type of alternator. It is a clever box of tricks which handles charging very effectively from what i hear. Watch this - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJK2qmNuj816kKcsi=mfpeWgyH8rCWx-_2 A good thing about the victron is that you dont need to run a 12v ignition switch wire to it as it has clever software that knows when the engine is on or off. So less work to do. I think some of the others need that ignition signal. Watch this -kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5zNmYmhpdaJh68si=w7HRn9FTS8YPg3d0

@@chaddy789 yeah, sorted now hopefully. At least the split chargers aren't an expensive item to get rid of and the leg work running the red cable from the bonnet is still valid for the Victron. It could have been worse. No worries. Thanks.

Yep. That's it mate. I don't think i noticed for a little while because my solar has been doing a good job topping me up. Then I realized on my last trip out that the VSR wasn't actually doing anything because the voltage was only hitting about 13.3 from the alternator (VSR turns on at 13.7). Then the penny dropped! Thankfully its not too difficult to fix as you still need the same red cable coming from the engine bay anyway. All good now.👍

I had to share this mistake with you - just incase someone out there did the same thing. This is a Trafic mk3 1.6 2014> - I have been told that all these trafic/vivaro 1.6s use the smart alternator. But do your own checks as always. I don't mind sharing mistakes - its how we learn. Cheers. JD 👍

Yeah its all compromises with these things. A low top is more stealthy and easier to park sometimes. High tops give you head room but might limit your parking sometimes.... Its all pros and cons in this game. But that makes for lots of variation among the community which is interesting I think. Thanks for your comment mate. Jon....

I just hope its helpful to someone out there one day. Jon.😊

Hiya. Its done a great job in my opinion so far. That back corner is not going grey, its still a nice solid black. What i would say is, don't be too precious about it because before you know it, its all covered in muck and dirt anyway from muddy campsites and rain. But yes, i am happy with the forever black stuff so far. Thanks for asking. Jon.

Nice job! Question: how stealth are they from the outside? Do they fully block all light from the inside of the van? This is always something a stealth camper needs to ensure if they're parking and don't want to be detected as living/sleeping in their van.
@TheJDWay
@TheJDWay Ай бұрын
Hi. If you stand outside looking at the back doors, you will not see light. Looking at either of the side windows, you will not see light. The only bit i would say that does let light through is the big cab curtain - The curtain material itself is blackout so 99% of it is fine - its the very top line where it is popped into the ceiling - its like a 1mm gap between curtain and white ceiling board so if i had lights on inside then someone could i suppose see little lines of light from outside yes. However. I'm sure that this could be improved on if that is really important to you (like an extra flap of material along the top or something.) Cheers for your comment. Thanks for watching Jon.
