When I bought one of my Gopros it came with a bunch of extras. One extra was the stretchy band strap and another extra was the spring loaded phone clamp. So I combined both and used it as a leg mount. If you go on EBAY and type in "Gopro leg mount" you will find the strap. Then, on EBAY again type in "Gopro phone clamp". Cheers

I've noticed 2 things....1..Your hands are pushed way forward 3:22 & 8:28 on your launch which is applying alot of brake making it harder for wing to come up......2..You let of the gas 3:33 & 8:38 as soon as you take off which could make the wing surge forward and cause a frontal..Scary!!! Just some friendly advice...Fly safe out there :)
@cloudwalkerppg5045 күн бұрын
Hi Scuba, I am deliberately adding a little brake pressure to the wing while running. This is just to prevent the wing from possibly sagging and the lines going slack. My hands are out in front slightly, but they are up at about ear level. I'm always afraid of my lines getting in the prop. Regarding letting off the gas. I have always done this since the beginning, not sure why. Maybe just to check the equipment before going higher. Not really worried about a collapse since at this time I am going at almost full speed. Thanks for the suggestions, I will think about these next time I am out and try some adjustments.

For those folks considering teaching themselves how to fly paramotors: talk to someone that self taught 5-10 years ago. Not someone that taught themselves 6 months ago or a year and a half ago but someone with some real deep experience taking the self training path.
@cloudwalkerppg504Ай бұрын
Not exactly sure what the comment is supposed to mean. I have never stated that I have 5-10 years experience flying paramotors, in fact I state in the description of every one of my videos how many flights I have under my belt as a pilot (in the case of this video it is 33). My videos are simply chronological documentation of my experiences as I learn the sport. These are fresh perspectives from someone new to the sport. These incites are long since lost from someone 5-10 years into the journey.

@@cloudwalkerppg504 1 year and 3 years are the 2 big cut off points for paramotor pilots continuing their flying regardless of training type. There is not a single pilot that makes it to 5 years regardless of training type that will say self training was a good idea. Every self trained pilot I know who has stuck around that long will say that you waste so much time and money trying to figure things out that you could sorted out at a formal reputable school. In my experience and opinion weekend training from someone who does not teach paramotor professionally is not a great idea either. There are many schools out there that really have no business trying to teach anyone how to fly. Unpopular opinion but this is where we need regulation most

@@cloudwalkerppg504 I have 8 solo jumps and 2 tandems. I traveled down to Arizona to get my class A license. Unfortunately 8 jumps is all I could get in. I don't know why but my head/ears couldn't handle the fast and repeated changes in altitude. I knew something wasn't right after the first day (3 jumps) but did another 3 jumps the next day. After that second day my ears where really messed up. When I was laying in bed that night I could hear a ringing noise that wouldn't go away. Plus when I woke up that morning and lifted my head off the pillow I could feel and hear air escaping my ear drum. It was weird. At that point I told the instructor what was going on and she basically left it up to me if I wanted to jump or not. Well since I traveled all the way down there and I only had 10 days to get my Class A license I decided that I wanted to continue jumping. That wasn't the right decision but I was committed. On the 2nd jump of that day I was about to do my dive exit ( instructor was already hanging outside of the plane) and she noticed I had a bloody nose. At that time I didn't realize it and it was too late to back out so I made the jump. When I was under canopy I could feel my nose running and when I wiped my hand across it I saw the blood. And at this point I can't even tell you how bad my ears/head were because it was terrible! After that I thought I should take a little break for a day or two and see if I get better. Unfortunately it didn't get any better. I'm not joking here when I tell you it was 9 weeks later before I my issues went away. I was pretty scared there for a while thinking I permanently just damaged my ears. Thankfully all is well so paramotoring here I come! Oh and by the way even after those 10 jumps in total, I was still terrified leaving that plane haha. I was only jumping because I absolutely love being under canopy so paramotoring should be perfect for me! The only thing I worry about is where I live (harsh winters) plus I am absolutely slammed with work when the weather is nice so I question if it's even worth it to try to get into flying or if I'll just be disappointed again when I realize it doesn't work with my lifestyle.

Thanks for the advice! If you look closely at the video, when the wing went up, my holding on to the A's was preventing the riser from releasing into the air. So at this point the riser was already loose. As soon as I let go of the right A's the riser went straight up into the air.

It is possible that it could have been worse, but I still think I would not have been injured have I not been wearing those gloves. I may look for a different place to fix the lines like you stated.

Glad your nearly 100% now and it wasn't worse. My routine for forwards is to hold the As at the mallions (up and out with hands at 10:30 and 1:30 positions) with tension on the risers so it lifts up the swing arms by the carabiners. Gives me a chance to visually check again for gates closed/locked and risers in the correct position in the biner (don't want them rotated with a riser on the gate itself). Noticed that you were leaned pretty far forward, maybe putting the lines closer to the prop than an upright stance would? freak thing though with the loose riser. you won't do that again.

You do not need a license or training to fly. I did not have the time off work to travel out of town to get training, so I self-trained. I bought a glider and practiced for 2 months by myself. Then I bought a motor and flew. It was definitely scary waiting for first takeoff (I am also afraid of heights), however when I was in the air, for the most part, I had no fear. As far as getting started, it depends how serious you are. There are places, that for a fee will tow you into the air then release the rope and you can float down. Also, places that you can take a tandem flight or flight in a trike. This may be a good start. Cheers

I am just getting back into this after a year but really want to get more kiting time before flying. Also trying to connect with the local group so I am not getting back into this solo, but they are usually out at sunrise. I am a sunset person and night person that stays up till 4am. When I was in Nevada training, I got really good at reverse and could keep it up all day with little effort. I would have left the pulleys in the factory location. The speed bar lines should be in line with the risers. With them going forward, there’s a geometric change happening if you tilt forwards or backwards, the amount of speed system engaged will change, it’s not a big deal but it will make a difference. And I would worry about the speed bar lines getting tangled in your brake hands or throttle while launching. Now, I’m a free flight XC pilot not a PPG pilot, we use speed bar a lot, basically we are either in a thermal or on speed bar.
@cloudwalkerppg5047 ай бұрын
I may try changing back next summer when it's warm and I am carrying less gear. Haven't used it in the winter, however almost used it two days ago when I got caught down wind in diminishing daylight. In this case trims full out got me back in time. Cheers
@SkidzFPV7 ай бұрын
@@cloudwalkerppg504also, the amount of pressure you need to push bar should be easier when it’s inline with the risers, because in this video your not pulling straight down on the speed system, your pulling out, so with it in factory settings you should notice a little less pressure for speed bar. Also, I don’t know it PPG guys do this, or if it’s primarily a free flight thing, but a lot of guys upgrade their speed bar pulleys to ratcheting ronstat pulleys that are a much larger diameter. They are quite expensive but I’ve heard that they make a huge difference, I’m going to be adding a set to my pod harness. Another thing to think about (also my experience here is in paragliding wings) but the higher class gliders have less force to pull speed bar. My en-A wing has a very heavy speed bar, my high-B is definitely lighter.

@cloudwalkerppg5049 ай бұрын
I just checked and measuring from where the wire comes out of the housing to the very end of the throttle handle is 44". I did not shorten the cable, that length is how it was manufactured. Also I have removed the attachment of the throttle cable to the swing arm. I let that part hang free, as I found it to be too restricting. With that said my Maverick does have a gap down low in the netting and was afraid that the throttle cable could get shoved through there and reach the prop (this happened to Judson Grahm in one of his videos where his throttle cable got trashed). So I made my own section of netting to close the gap. I have never had a problem since. Cheers
