I cant seem to find out between these dyno 13'', the 13' K customs dark and the 13' A customs mastersound... this a/z 13' is also so cool... so hard to choose... I already have a 14' harsh and heavy zbt, going for more articulation with crisp like Chad Szeliga (which uses the 13' A customs i believe)

I had one years ago that I got used for next to nothing, but it just was so loud. Should have kept it just to have one but I traded it. The story I remember is that Billy Cobham was looking for an extra dry and ping-y ride. Armand Zildjian was walking past a stack of unlathed and unhammered cymbals, hit one with a stick, then showed it to Billy, who flipped out. Then every Billy Cobham fan wanted one and it became part of the catalog.

Like that meinl for it's more trad ride sound - but that's not what I want a quick decay crash for (PSTX sounds dryer and better for my applications)

I remember the ads for this cymbal in Rhythm magazine back in the eighties, "Leopard Ride", the very name made me want one but this is the first time I've actually heard one so really enjoyed this vid. Lovely cymbal, obviously geared towards pop and rock and certainly hits the spot in that respect, drums sound amazing too, great vid John 👍

Now that's my kind of ride cymbal! Glassy ping with projection and zero wash, and a nice clear separated higher pitched bell. Only downside is the bell isn't larger. But Sabian isn't known for large ride bells anyway. I've said before in your previous videos that I never crash a ride, so I'm all about one trick pony rides like this. Oh and BTW - chonker is slang for a big fat cat. Something big and overweight, which describes this ride perfectly!
@honourisdrumming2 ай бұрын
Ah thanks for clearing that up-never heard that word before! It’s a great cymbal, bell isn’t that big but it more than makes up for it in volume. Cheers for watching as always!

I have a ride like that Phil Collins signature RBDR in traditional finish and sounds exactly like the one in your video and i agree that is the most versatile cymbal I have in my collection(apart from my 21 HHX groove ride ) , it has the right amount of stick definition and warm wash , a cutting raw bell that sounds kinds dry dark and powerful and it is crasheable too!! I use it as my gigging ride , 80s, 90s rock/pop and 70s and 80s classic rock and it is perfect for that music

I remember seeing Randy Castillo at a drum clinic in 1987 and he had 2 cymbals that stood out. An 18" Wuhan china and that damn Z Heavy Power Ride. Both were amazing. I bought that exact china the next day and I based most of my rides being able to cut through a mix like that Heavy Z.

I was working for Guitar Center when the Akira Jimbo snare was released to sell, and I sold maybe 6 of them. Really good sounding drum! The Anton Fig model came out at the same time, and we sold a lot of those. The Anton Fig model was super good sounding, very versatile! We even hosted a Clinic with Akira Jimbo and that dude is a crazy good drummer...and a weird guy in general. As for the noobs dissing on Stage Customs...that is ridiculous! Stage Customs will do anything one needs drums to do, and well! They are an incredible value! Cheers!

Roger Taylor played Z power crashes only once with Queen at Wembley in 1986. I don't think he liked them, so immediately went back to his K range. I think he was just offered them to try them out, then dumped them. They sound too clanky for my liking. I am more a K guy myself too, but enjoy all cymbal videos. Thanks man.

I remember that! I’m not a big fan of the crashes either but the rides work well in the right situation. Cheers!

I was actually very surprised Roger used them. I was 11 at the time. Roger switched from Paiste in 1985 when he first played big Ks at Live Aid. Oddly enough, at Wembley, he used a 21'' Rock Ride and not a Z. I think he played New Beat hats at Webley too. I am a big fan!

Thanks dude, it sounds even better live-it’s a DW Collectors 22x18 maple and I’m using an AKG D112 mic. No eq or compression, straight into the DAW so as raw as it can be so you get a ‘real’ sound as opposed to triggering/blending anything.

i was a paiste man and i got a big old z custom projection crash back in the day. and by god it sounded fantastic really gongy and aggressive sounding. i swapped it for a paiste sig power crash later only for the reason that it was too loud compared with everything else and didnt quite fit sound wise. but it was a great cymbal, never understood people that said z customs were trash can lids and not musical. not true at all. glad to see them return
