Hi There, I have a different issue with my softboard: delamination on the upside - because of heat ;-) And also there is little water inside since i ignored a few little holes for a while. So my questions are: 1.) How to dry out the board (can I probably open the delaminated area with a carpet knive??) 2.) How to fix the delaminated area (with hot glue pistol?? Or silicon??)

very helpful. i wear 6 in general and bought sized-up 8 for wetsuit. Still it is super hard to get on and OFF. I want to buy another suit with +10 or zippers around ankles/wrists. Is this a good idea?
@RiderShack
@RiderShack 9 күн бұрын
If you're using a chest zip, try a back zip instead of sizing up to a 10. That tends to be easier. At face value, being a size 6 and wearing a 10 wetsuit seem like the wetsuit would be too big. But definitely go with what feels good to you. The suit should fit like a second skin. If the suit is too big, cold water will constantly flush through and pool in the loose areas (arguably more annoying than struggling to get in and out of it).

The gorilla glue is probably the best glue for a delam. You'd have to check out some other youtube vids on how to repair it though (I usually just let delams be).

Would this be the same for a foam surf board? I’m worried I’ll squish jt
@RiderShack

Same process for a foam surfboard. You just need to be gentle with straps when you cinch them down. But in all likelihood it's inevitable that you'll end up with marks on the board where the tie downs are.

My fin box dilodged out of foam board, with fin (kids!! Standing on board while on beach shore then lifting abd twisting it while fin somewhat buried. SO WHAT NOW?! It had 1 or 2 screws into inner foam. I feel like i should be able to just glue or foam fill/glue etc. SO, i heaR u all saying HOT GLUE and Gorilla Original. I have gorilla. What is hot glue? Brand? Do i need a gun? Is there a certain kind? We have a crafting glue gun: good enough?
@RiderShack
@RiderShack 2 ай бұрын
Did the screws break? If not you can usually just tighten them down. If the crews did break you'll probably need replacement fin. I'm not sure how long Gorilla glue would hold up in this case but if it's foam safe I'd give it a try. Hot glue as I know it is what gets applied with a small pistol looking applicator and has a glue stick tube that pops out the back.

You could just use an allen key. I have one of those tools in my kitchen drawer. There's maybe 8 keys and they fold out. I'm not sure of the size but I think it's metric.

What orientatino when mounting a board? Tail or nose forward?
@jeffglass94
@jeffglass94 3 ай бұрын
You can really do either way but I prefer to do the tail forward. Just in case the straps became slightly loose the fin could act as a safety net and catch on the straps.

You could. Just check that it it safe for the foam and water proof. I've used Soft Phix and Gorilla glue as well. They work very well. I just feel that hot glue requires the least amount of effort for the same outcome.

Hola.

Hell yea. Actually looked up something because i was rough on my new suits this yr as usual but just getting back in the water after a a while dolled out a good bit extra wear and tear. Being out the loop means Having to pay significantly more for some things and quality rubbers being a must is teaching me to take care of my gear and now how to repair it when the inevitable shat happens. I typed it in and the first few , lets just say i chuckled at. And im no chuckler. Clicked on u and from the get i knew my supply list fir what i was against. Easy to grasp instructions that were detailed in such i grasped the concept of why doing it was necessary. Even saw b4 u mentioned a few things this lesson that could be used in a multitude of situations was actually being given by someone with experience and obviously sucess. Down to doing the patch work on the inside not only for cosmetics but thats what the manufacturer does. Then throwing in if possible glue , stitch and patch was just some words of wisdom for sure cause u don't wana do all this and not spend a extra five minutes only to really regret it as soon as u hit water. From SE, NC thank ya kindly

Dig your style & content! I need to constantly fix mine and kids foamies. Had good success with the hot glue gun for little cuts, thank you so much! But now i have bigger tasks. Catch Surf recommended Gorilla Glue. I noticed the Gorilla Glue variant in your clip is not the right one. It is not water proof, doesn't expand and perhaps is not foam friendly. It has to be the original one, which comes in two variants. One dries brown the other white. Yes confusing ;)
@RiderShack
@RiderShack 6 ай бұрын
Something didn't feel right about the Gorilla Glue. I believe Catch Surf had repair recommendations on their site and they provided an Item number for the Gorilla Glue. It was foam friendly and that's about it. The repairs did hold up though. Although the glue now is harder and less pliable than cured hot glue. Have you done any repairs with the expanding foam? How is it to work with? Does is stay soft like the surrounding foam?
@diskettencharly
@diskettencharly 6 ай бұрын
@@RiderShack Thanks for your reply. Catch Surf answered, if Gorilla is being used it has to be the "Original". It is foam friendly, waterproof and expands. I just finished a larger project on my Log, a massive cut. I had no access to Gorilla and surf was up, so I used 3M 5200 to fill in the void and hot glue to seal the surface. It worked quite well.

Nice video Bro, I have 2 questions 😂 1-how do you treat or repair cracks on the harder plastic on the bottom? 2-can I paint my soft top board?
@RiderShack
@RiderShack 9 ай бұрын
For a crack on the bottom I would use Ding Tape or clear packing tape. That would probably yield the same results as using glue but for a lot less effort. I don't think paint will stick. You could probably "Sharpie" the bottom and that will last. Maybe put a clear coat on top to protect it.

If you're surfing a lot then yeah it's probably time for a new board. If you're only getting out once or twice a month then I'd patch it up and deal with the ugliness. The glue is not a permanent fix.

I tried several technics even the one prescribed by the brand of my softboard and it is terrible. The pieces are usually falling and then I just add plastics in the sea... With this one (as shown in the video), I am pretty sure the result will be the same :s but thanks for trying to find a solution to prolong the life of softboards ;)

Unless you have extra large tires it should not. The mounts allow you to extend the board out away from the bike a few inches giving you more space.

I left mine inside the car. I have a soft board. And it swelled a bubble of the size of two hands. Near the rail. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks a lot.
@RiderShack
@RiderShack Жыл бұрын
If it's not in a critical part of the board I wouldn't touch it. Usually the fix buys you a little time but ultimate the bubble just keeps growing. With that being said. You can peel back the delam, apply some gorilla glue or soft phix to the foam, pull the deck layer tight over the repair area tape it down and apply light pressure. Once the glue has cured I'd put another layer of glue over the seam.

I attempted to repair bubbled deck on my softech board with foam safe gorilla glue. The bubbled area is bubbled up and hardened. After applying glue I pressed bubble down to dry. What did I do wrong?
@RiderShack

My best guess is that even though you used 'foam safe' glue there was still an adverse reaction between the glue and foam.

The hotglue fix is the go to for fixing soft top dings. Near instant cure, easy to remove if your not satisfied, cheap, and forgiving. Pro tip; get parchment paper for baking to lay over your fresh glue to ensure a flat, peelable, form fitting surface that you can hand mold if your adhesive starts to run.

any advice for when the attachment onto the seat comes loose very easily? i’ve tightened very tight but it’ll come loose after a few bumps. it causes my board to run into my tire when i pedal
@RiderShack
@RiderShack Жыл бұрын
Double check to see if there is a set screw you can tighten. I know the Moved By racks have them. Sometimes the seat post is too narrow for the rack and it's difficult to find a long term solution in that case. If the seat post is the appropriate size you can try to us a piece of material like you would find to make a rug non-slip and place it in-between the post and rack mount.
