Teegan, How does this fit with the ZWO filter drawer and the 2600MC? Is there going to be an issue with the filter drawer opening? Does the drawer stay on the camera side where it won't interfere with the CAA motor? Currently using a Redcat 51 v2 with ProAstroGear auto focuser, no spacers, ZWO filter drawer (21mm), ASI 2600MC. I'm guessing I will need to take off the AF clamp and reset it to center the focus with an extra 16.5mm of backspacing.

Great question! If you check out our written guide on system builds for the ZWO CAA (www.highpointscientific.com/astronomy-hub/post/astro-photography-guides/zwo-confirmed-system-builds-for-the-caa) we have a confirmed build for the CAA, a ZWO M42 Gen 2 Filter Drawer, and an ASI2600MC/MM Pro! The "chin" of the ZWO CAA faces the telescope, so it will not interfere with the filter drawer when installed the way we have shown. With more forgiving back focus requirements you could likely find a way to place the filter drawer ahead of the CAA (consideration for something custom like this is provided in the guide), and since the CAA itself stays static so long as you are able to orient the drawer away from the chin you should be okay. As for the drawer opening, we'd encourage you to turn your filter drawer upside over a soft surface to check if this is an issue for you; there are some reports of people finding their drawer opens at certain angles, so definitely something we'd check before rotating this remotely and fix if it was an issue or concern.

"I bought a 12" apertura dob from you awhile back." "I have a question." "What would be the best 2" lowest magnification eyepiece for it?" "It came with a 30mm 2"."Would a 40mm, or 42mm 2" be a good idea, or bad idea?" "Google A.I. recommended a 32mm 2". "What do you recommend?" "Just wondering, sorry to bother you."

Great question! When choosing a low power eyepiece in a Dobsonian, you will begin to see the shadow of the secondary mirror at magnifications below 50x when viewing bright objects like the moon. It isn't as obvious when viewing nebulae or star clusters though, so you can go lower than 50x when viewing those. The included 30mm is right at 50x so we would not suggest any thing longer for lunar viewing. However, you could try a 40mm for even lower power views of nebulae and star clusters.

At 1:22 (+/-) you say that the CAA telescope side is 54mm (this is correct), but that it can be changed to 48mm with the included adaptor. This is not correct. The included adapter fits on the camera side, and will be needed in many configurations. On the Telescope side you are "on your own". There are 48 to 54 (zero add to back focus) available to fit on the Telescope flattener/reducer. ZWO should have included at least one of these, but did not.

You’re right - saw it in bortel 5 sky last night. Two contrasting stars at the top, a “Y” shape of stars at the bottom. Stars in the middle seemed to come in and out of view (seeing was decent, but moon ruined transparency). 👍

Not sure that this has been mentioned before, but, the Wave 100i does not use a "standard" mount adapter, it is 73mm and not 85mm, so it will NOT fit on a tripod designed for the AM5 style 85mm adapter. Thought I found my mount, but nope...

Question, what is the difference between StarSense Explorer 130mm and StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ?
@highpointscientific
@highpointscientific 4 күн бұрын
Great question! Optically, there is no difference between these two telescopes. The differences are in the mounts that are supplied. The Celestron StarSense Explorer 130mm Tabletop Dobsonian uses a traditional Dobsonian style mount and the Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ Newtonian Reflector Telescope uses a simplified lighter duty Alt Azimuth mount head placed on a fully adjustable tripod. In principle they are both very similar, however the larger bearing surfaces used in the Dobsonian mount should provide a smoother working platform for the telescope as long as you have a solid table or elevated support to sit the 130mm Tabletop Dobsonian on. For an additional cost, you can also purchase the optional Tripod for Celestron StarSense Explorer Tabletop Dobsonians so that you no longer need to lug out a solid and heavy table to sit the telescope on.

I am trying to build a "SeeStar" from scratch, with better hardware (redcat, cooled camera, mono, etc). The goal is some small rig I could drag along somewhere and just plop down on level ground to let it auto align and start capturing some images. These are more EAA type images and it wont be replacing my EQ mount for more serious pictures (obviously). So my question, can this rotator be used to compensate for the field rotation on an Alt Az mount while imaging? So live, slow rotation while capturing so that I can capture 3 minute exposures instead of 10-30 second exposures? Thanks!
@highpointscientific
@highpointscientific 4 күн бұрын
Great question! This feature is not natively supported by ZWO at the moment. There is some strong talk online that ZWO has field de-rotation functionality planned, but at the moment we are not aware of any solid release dates/announcements that we can point you to to definitively say you will get it if you buy today, or whether the de-rotation will be the live correction or just adjustment between frames.

Just one more thing we wanted to add here: one of our experts recommended that you check out Cuiv the Lazy Geek's channel. They said that Cuiv built a rig that sounds a lot like what you are looking to do!
