Thank you. I've never heard of the Owl cluster. It is now on my list of objects to view.

when you say the magnification like 100x or 50x what does that equate to in focal length ?
@highpointscientific
@highpointscientific 3 ай бұрын
Great question! That depends on what telescope you are using. To determine magnification with any telescope, divide the focal length of the eyepiece into the focal length of the telescope. For instance a 600mm focal length telescope used with a 6mm eyepiece would provide 100x.

Thanks for sharing. Maybe I am biased here as a kid that grew up with ET. movie. But the owl looks pretty much like the E.T. cluster to me

Last week on vacation in Greece I took exactly the picture with pleiades and Neptune in the same field of view! Captured it with my dslr and the 70-300 lens at about 100mm 🤩! Stacked about 80 frames of 3 seconds, came out beautiful given the setup 😍!

We’ve had a run of clear, calm, dark sky around this current new moon. I’ve been out every evening with a photo and a visual rig. Albireo and Achird are beautiful through the SkyMax150 and not impressive with my photo rig. One night I toured several open and globular clusters. Great views and images. No clouds in sight means I won’t get much sleep until too much moonlight.

The blue snowball is one of my favourite messier objects. I view it with all my scopes but it's best in my 180 Maksutov and 250 go to dobsonian. The details. are stunning in the Mak at high magnification.

I got a beautiful pic of the Owl Cluster last month. What about the comet that wassupposed to appear at the end of the month? I had heard it was supposed to be visible again in October? When I use my DSLR it is on my CPC 1100. I have even used my iPhone to take some pics with the CPC.

That’s fantastic! And that is correct: beginning on October 12th, the comet is expected to be visible above the western horizon just after sunset.

@@highpointscientific I'll probably have to stand on my roof to see it. Tucson is surrounded by mountains.

By second moon, are you referring to Asteroid PT5, the “temporary “ moon? At magnitude 22, you would need long exposure photography and a one meter scope.
