$17 for a strut I’m for sure adding one I don’t ever want to get called back for a top section splitting I don’t care how dialed in the door is if an over head unit is being installed they must have a strut, keep testing your luck over an inexpensive part it’s not worth it.

If you’re getting just a click, it usually means a sensor is tripped. Either something is in the way of the beam or it’s not aligned correctly.

Late to the party, first I really admire that you are in business for yourself. You seem to have your head screwed on straight and are very concerned with your reputation and doing quality work and that will take you far. In regards to handling employees, remember you are their boss, not their friend; that doesn't mean you can't be friendly with them, but you are first and foremost their boss. People tend to live up to your expectations. More than once you sounded like you were trying to mitigate hie poor service, don't do that. The first thing I would do is determine why he performed poorly; was this a matter of poor training or was he in a hurry. IOW, just tell him what you discovered and ask him what happened. If he actually stole from you or was lying to you, than you have a much bigger problem than poor performance. As an employer you need to clearly explain your expectations and if an employee fails to meet expectations and it is not a training issue, they need to be replaced. You would kick yourself if after all your hard work your reputation was ruined because you retained an employee that did inferior work. One more thing, if an employee will steal from you, he will likely steal from your customers also.

Pushing the dents out does not “permanently” stop the bowing. Those are a result of the bowing. Each panel should have received a strut to prevent future cracks. Removing the stile from the door and replacing just the ORB will result in that hinge breaking. Add thicker hinges for better success. Also change the spring , now the door is 20+ lbs heavier and the spring is not correct for the door. Best investment is a steel back door, if it’s not in the cards then you make sure they have 14g hinges and struts This will make the door last 20 years

In my case, the cable on one side broke off right above the loop that attaches to the door. It's only been installed for 2 years. Why would these break off?
@dapperdudesgarage3 ай бұрын
@@raterus The garage door was probably installed a little too tight. What I mean is…the tracks are moveable. They can slide minimally left to right and up and down by loosening one of/or a couple bolts. Sometimes if you install the door and the bottom brackets attached to the bottom of the door are rubbing the garage door tracks it will causing cutting into the bottom brackets as well as start fraying your cables due to the rubbing or friction until they are frayed so much they break due to all the tension they are under. NO OTHER reason whatsoever your cables should have broken that fast!
@raterus3 ай бұрын
@@dapperdudesgarage I went to go repair this and what I thought was a broken cable was the pulley end. The entire metal pulley had snapped where it holds the cable in. Obviously I'm not about to attempt a replacement, but is this an install issue, or just crap product? I did get the door straightened and raised at least, so this video definitely helped.

Good stuff, I have a question. Did you jump straight into the business full time ? And if so, how fast did you start making an income. Debating on how I should launch my business strategically.
@dapperdudesgarage3 ай бұрын
@@skippy05 Sorry for my delayed response. So, here’s my story in brief. I did work for a nationwide company for several years and seen a lot of things across the country. I learned a lot. When I started my business, fortunately we have two major suppliers right here in San Antonio. So, once I started I literally was off and running making profit asap. Never has been any slow time whatsoever. Yelp is huge honestly because they allow you to work and make money the whole first month without paying til the end of the month. So that was huge. But brother, you can make money ASAP in this industry. There is an immediate return because your margins are what you make them…literally! Generally speaking the margins are amazing in this industry. Just go for it man. It boils down to your drive and thats it! You, determine your success level
