Jesse, I like it when you start a video out with, "ok guys, what should we do." It makes me think about how I will tackle this job and then see, by your instruction, how close I am to being correct...thanks! J.R. & Amy

Good to see you bro! I kind of liked it when you asked “So what would be the next safest thing to do”? Sort of interactive training session and I’ll pause to think. Pretty cool. Hope your shoulder feels better soon! Stay safe!

yes sir, that you for staying on the comments. This dialogue is what gonna grow this thing eventually! Shoulder still giving me fits and its frustrating. I do not at all like being hindered. I’ll try that interacting a little more.

Very informative and to the point. I’ve always been fascinated with the whole door installation process and big beautiful garage doors. I’ve dabbled in a few projects similar to your profession but mainly limited to a few dog and cat doors for my kitchen and sisters sunroom. I’m out towards the San Antonio area if you know anyone who’s hiring. I’m a vet and Ive only got one leg but I’m very mobile for my condition. It would probably look pretty patriotic having someone like me on a crew. Nice work though.

No problem. Thank you for the engagement. This garage door stuff is easy and cakewalk once you learn it. But I guess that's with anything right! Most things are easier when you know what your doing.

Same scenario just happened to my garage. Used your vice grip strategy to straighten the garage door and rewired the line. Worked perfectly! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Who would of known a vice grip can be the key to the repair lol. Thanks again!!!

You should consider purchasing a “ surewinder “ makes turning tension on the garage door springs easier since that’s what I use for my garage door jobs but it works incredibly good and no more shoulder pain
@dapperdudesgarage9 ай бұрын
yeah i’ve thought about it. But i’m trying to stay young as long as i can, lol! Nah, just haven’t convinced myself to pay the $700-$900 for that thing

Which video is that we’re there are 2 liftmasters on wood doors in the intro?

Nice…. Soooo does all rollers have to be the same length? My door looks like some of the rollers should be in a little further and my left side is raised, making my door uneven. The long spring in the middle is the way to make it even right? I have had a repairman come and it seems like they didn’t truly fix my problem… also my drum springs seem to be kinked on the right side.
@dapperdudesgarage10 ай бұрын
no they don’t necessarily have to be all equal, i guess technically speaking. If your door is uneven you need to vise grip the torsion spring tube up and down so it cant move at all and then whatever side is raised, loosen the set screws on the drums and let the door fall to the ground even. Don’t let the cables just come completely slack though and once the door is even then make sure a little tension is on the cables and tighten the set screws back, release your vice grips and bam its a wrap!

Yeah sounds about right. I have a cable jump off drum. But albe to fix it my self. Happen more than once

Easier thing to do is cut a spring winding cone put it on the end of the shaft vice grip the door is the position it’s in don’t lift a side. Put a vice grip on the hot cable back wind springs put the cables back on putback the tension it will level the door out then figure out what caused it to bind in the first place. Taking the cable off and raising the door takes more time
@dapperdudesgarage8 ай бұрын
You are correct. I do understand all your saying…but truly when I’m making most of my videos, I attack the jobs and such in a manner I think is most general all across the board for general garage door guys and even moreso for the average homeowner who can benefit from watching the videos. So when Im doing my videos I try not to to be a technical trickmaster hotshot, ya know. Just keep the repairs in a general level not too complicated for all those involved. But, yes, I could demonstrate the sure winder and even a cable snatch…but what are the chances a homeowner are going to possess either of those at any point? Ya know. But brother thanks for the engagement and feedback. The cone trick u mentioned is likely something I’ll include in another video though. Good stuff.
@armondhammer916 күн бұрын
does the torsion spring lose tension when the cable comes off or no?
@dapperdudesgarage16 күн бұрын
very minimal, but when it comes to tension, you don’t want to lose any. So i usually do a full rebalance so I KNOW the cables wont come off again and i’ll be right back on a warranty call!
