I enjoyed this so much, thanks to the great attitudes of the 3 of you, and particularly to you, Scott for putting this together. I'm in north central WA, partial to kingfishers and river otters, so I particularly enjoyed seeing what you found in this video. Have a suggestion for you if you're still shooting the Canon 200-800, the steel tripod handle gets mighty cold, insulate it with a fry pan slip-on handle cover, secured with 1/2" bolt. Take care of yourself and run that shutter.

As a former Nikon shooter, I know love the M43 system for all its advantages and have used it since 2015. My current body is the EM1 Mark III with a bunch of Pro lenes. I sell me work on line and through galleries. Not once has anyone said "oh, I'm not buying your work because it wasn't shot using a FF camera"!. Please people, its the shooter NOT the camera!!!

Hello, good explanation I'm thinking of buying the r7 with a sigma 18-50 and a canon rf 100-400 My idea is to photograph motorsport events (mainly rally) and some air shows, do you think I will have this problem? If so, maybe the canon r8 would be a better choice?
@WILDALASKAКүн бұрын
Both are very good options. The sensors readout is better on the R8 for less rolling shutter and the MP on the r8 for your subject matter isn't an issue. So I would lean towards the r8, but the reach on the r7 and ibis in the body make it compelling also. Hard choice
@xicoo0612Күн бұрын
@WILDALASKA i have been hasking on redit and youtube coments opinios and most of them lean toard the r7 because of 15 fps mecanical shuter so i dont have roling shuter, for now im just doing some serching But now i have been seing that R7 as some AF issue like you explained and i m afraid that i miss my shots

What a marvelous shooting day with Cassie & Heidi Scott !!! Last summer we were in Scot-land, and for some days we've been searching for Otters (while thinking about your earlier awesome Otter-videos !), but sadly we didn't spot any. We did have a day full of Puffins and Razorbills on the isle of Lunga.

If I'm not mistaken, this is one of the only cameras with an IPX rating. How do you know other cameras are more weather sealed than this one when its the only one actually rated for it?
@WILDALASKA3 күн бұрын
Because I have used them in some of the roughest weather you would want to subject them to over and over.

Thanks for this video!!! I have an R7 and had the opportunity to compare to a Z9 while shooting flying puffins with fish/shrimp in their beaks (same magnification). Looking through the R7 EVF, I could not tell even if there was food in the beaks, and certainly could not determine if they were shrimp or fish. The view was much clearer with the Z9--much more life-like. I believe you have used R7 as well as R5m2 and Z8/9. Could you comment on whether the EVF of the R5 MkII has the same feeling of lifelike-ness (ratah than the pixelated quality of the R7)? I have read that the difference is not only dots, but also some intangible quality allowing this better view. (PS--hope you're continuing to heal--take care of yourself!!).
@WILDALASKA4 күн бұрын
On the R7 crack the brightness up. But the Z9 and R5MKII have incredible EVF. Very detailed. ON the z9 push the brightness yo by +2 and its even better.

I will invest in one of these 2 fantastic bodies soon, since I am some invested in RF gear it is likely I go for the R5 mark ii. Upgrading from Eos R so it will be a nice upgrade, especially shooting birds which is a bit challenge using Eos R.

That a very big upgrade also. Both cameras are awesome. But remember invest where your glass is.

@jerrythornton4824 күн бұрын

@WILDALASKA4 күн бұрын
none...post 75 yards it will be too much atmospheric distortion. distance is you enemy for photography for detail. when it gets to that distance you should shoot a environmental shot. basically landscape shot with an animal in it.

Awesome video! There is just one thing ( 27:24 ). You said the 8.3K60p N-RAW would only be 10-Bit which is NOT true as far as I know. The Z8 and the R5 Mark II should both be able to shoot 12-Bit RAW video (8K60p) if I’m not mistaken. Maybe you can clear up this confusion. I really appreciated this incredibly detailed comparison. I’m switching from APS-C to full frame and these are my two top contenders. Looks like I’ll be getting a Z8 if the upcoming Sony a1 II doesn’t leapfrog the Z8. I‘m disappointed that Canon still limits 8K oversampled 4K to 30fps whereas Nikon offers 4K60p downsampled from 8.3K!

I love the absolute joy and sense of elation that the three of you had! It was like watching three kids find their favorite thing in the whole wide world! What an absolutely beautiful setting! The underwater perspective of the otters and the jellyfish was particularly interesting. Is there something in the metadata that allows you to determine the distance from each subject?

Yes we have a blast when we all 3 can get out together. And we are a bunch of kids finding our favorite things 😂 To find the focal distance look in Lightroom under the metadata panel and open up the options and add focal distance.

nice review but when you were talking about iso and f-stops at the beginning, you said you loos 2 stops of light gathering ability with M43, thats not exactly correct, the camera will give the same exposure as a full frame sensor in any given scene / light level, you only really loos 2 stops in depth of field terms/ so a m43 lens at f4.5 is like a full frame camera at f9 in terms of depth of field, exposure wise both cameras give the same readings. But re depth of field its not as bad as it sounds either as you can shoot the f4.5 lens at f4.5 and get the bird all sharp whereas on full frame, if you were shooting the same bird with a 800mm lens, you would need to be at f9 = f10 to get all the bird in focus so you have regained that 2 stop disadvantage and therefore can shoot at 2 stops lower iso with m43. Also you mention the weather sealing IP53 and say its not upto the Nikon Z9 or Canon R3, well thats incorrect too as Nikon and Canon dont give a rating and its widely recognised that Olympus has thr best weather sealing in the business.
@WILDALASKA5 күн бұрын
You loose light gathering. Even Om System states this. 35mm type sensors do not gather as much light. its just then fact of the matter.
