@@willdoyle6952 People like to dine out on technical ability. If all that mattered was technical ability, Shearer and Sheringham would have played into their 50's. The fact of the matter is, physicality matters. Ings is probably better at 5 aside, granted, but the role as a CF in the PL is occupying 2 CBs. That is a standard requirement. Ings is NOT physically capable of that. He will get swallowed up.

The last time he himself would have expected to be picked was under Gerrard at Villa for the very brief period he opted to play 4-4-2 (which ultimateley got him sacked) any time he only played 1 CF, he opted AGAINST playing Ings. The moment Emery come in, he sold him. To us, unfortunately. Thats 4 managers who dont see him as a starting CF. Gerrard, Emery, Moyes and Lop..We got him in because we were desperate. Because Moyes and Antonio were having hand bags and Scamacca was injured. If he was that good, we wouldnt of wanted to flog him at a massive loss. Thats not just me, thats not just Steidten, thats not just Lop, thats the entirity of this fan base aswell. I could count on on hand how many comments I see saying we shouldnt sell Ings. Playing Antonio after an international break was questionable. Every other game, its been the right thing to do. His biggest issues at the moment are playing Souceck, playing Rodriguez and not starting Summerville.

@@damiandamico4715 I believe the issue with not playing Summerville at the moment has been Emerson, in my opinion Lopetegui sees them both as too attack minded and if both are caught to high up the pitch, there is insufficient defensive cover along the left flank on a counter attack. So far, baring one occasion for a short period, they haven't been on the pitch together. When Summerville was in the starting lineup, Cresswell was the chosen left back until he was injured in the warm up, when AWB was then moved into that role. I've had this theory since the "two players for every position" mantra was first spoken about, that when you look at the majority of the positions, those two players are so different you can't replace like for like, hence why you haven't seen just one player coming on when substitutions are made. To change one player, Lopetegui has to bring on another player to compliment or cause another problem.

My expectation was extremely high following the announcement of Lopetegui’s appointment, then after the new additions signed during the winter window, I was hopeful of a cup with a possible 6th finish in the PL. But following some strange team selections, basically last season’s side less two new signings. From someone who said he had watched us closely last season, he didn’t learn much. Personally I don’t believe Lopetegui is 100% happy with the squad, regardless of how much has been spent or how many ‘deadwood’ players had been moved on. We believe Steidten has made shrewd decisions, but then again we didn’t have much to compare against. Many of those players were not PL ready, which is surprising considering their reputations, and this maybe Lopetegui’s dissatisfaction with this squad. Once we get to January I may have my expectations renewed or I’m brought back to reality.
