Only two groundbait, s in those days brown or white ,,now theres hundreds ,and would've been better fishing a double snowman on a heli rig 😅

I used to love coarse fishing when I was a kid, trawling the canals of Marple, in Stockport. And I really enjoyed the Bernard Venables programmes on TV! Can anyone tell me what the music is that is played by strings & woodwind at the end of 'Stret-pegging for Roach pt 2'? I always loved this music, and it was used quite regularly in the series. Very pretty composition (I taught myself to play it by ear on piano after several attempts!) I would be really grateful if anyone knows what it is. Cheers!

innocent days when millions fished ,gentle folk enjoying the solitude ,,and nature fishing in the country,,thankfully they are missing the mess our governments are making ,because of over population we have sewage rivers and unsafe places ..dirty rivers, are what we have now..to many toilets not enough rivers,,if only we could go back in time,,now where is my centre pin and peacock float,,

in an era when tackle was crude and anglers made their own baits,,,,,these guys had not long returned from the war shortages still into the early 60,s they caught wild fish ,not today ,holes in the ground and more fish than water,,when people look back at pole fishing in the future they will laugh what skill is that they will say ,,like some of the miserable replies on this site ,some people really are sour,,,

As a kid, if I'd worked hard at school and received good grades, I could hire out a John Wilson video on a Saturday evening. And then go fishing with mates on Sunday. Absolute bliss! Thank you, John.

you get a look into how they used to fish and think. gentile and knowing,,i would say they lived for their fishing,a shame our rivers are devoid of many of the fish and swims of yesterday ,,,but every now and then on a misty morning on a small river with a stick running through roach and dace ,it feels like those long lost days ,happy memories,,

45 years ago I arrived in Norwich and stumbled upon his small tackle shop. He was essentially unknown to the general public at that time. I walked in and he was reading at the counter. I introduced myself and asked for some advice as to where to fish and so on. He never looked up, but pointed to a section of the counter and simply said "buy my book". 'Miserable sod' I thought to myself, but I did, it was invaluable, and although withing a few years i moved away, I still have it.

I've always liked gudgeon, many years ago when I was a lad fishing the River Thames they were the only things you ever caught, a fish, any fish of a pound was a big'un . I caught a BIG gudgeon of 4oz not far off the the British record of the time, my only ever real specimen fish.

Still have this on VHS, it was these earlier JW productions that got me hooked as a kid. I find modern fishing productions totally inferior. Lots of KZbinrs putting out fishing content they make and that they think is great, but its actually really naff compared.

Wobbling a dead bait is a very productive method, I put an oval piece of lead folded above the trace , this will stop the line twisting problem you get with wobbling 😂 and taking Whiskey fishing doesn’t help either!😂
