I work out of a small garage and the one thing holding me back from Festool is the size of the case, it’s massive for the size of the tool, I just don’t have anyplace to store that. My Milwaukee track saw I have to keep in my basement because it came in this giant case.

Just finish installing mine, lots of work. By the way, you can adjust the fence to be closer to the table saw, mine is adjusted just over two sheets of paper and run smooth as buter. I don't know why yours is 1/4 inch space underneath??? You have three knobs with Allen key head on top of the sliding fence, two in front and one in the back, they are grey/silver you can't miss them. Turned them counter clockwise a bit and tight the knobs with a pair of pliers.

Hi, I'm picking up my table saw tomorrow directly at King Canada here in Quebec (Dorval), can't wait, I finally choose the KC-10KX/U30 instead of the U50. Also the 900 pounds stand for it. And I also bought the dust collector, model KC-2405C. Will be a nice day tomorrow, Christmas is sooner this year 🤗

How did you know the cutting angle of the sawplane? Is there a way to calculate it?

The Festool tech told me - don't use it on full power all the time, you're just increasing heat in the motor and burning it out prematurely. Apparently there's not much difference using it on 4 routinely with occasional max power when really necessary ....and that should prolong the life of the motor significantly
@Toms_Woodworking_and_Carpentry22 күн бұрын
Thanks for the info. I will try it on 4. Cheers

Well done! Simple and functional. I use a Makita 2012NB Thickness Planer. I've been using it for over ten years and love it. Easy blade replacement and they are reversible. The price has gone up dramatically since I bought it. I bought it for around $430 and have seen it advertised recently for as much as $1k. I saw a video on the Oliver Thickness Planer. If I were in the market now, I would probably give it some consideration. It's about the same price as the Makita, but has the helical shearing cutterhead and other nice features.

Walnut: 4/4 $11.85, 6/4 $12, 8/4 $12.75. Hard maple: 6/4 $5.65, 5/4 $6. All lumber 1st grade and rough. Culpeper, VA. ShopFox helical head 13" planer. Planes end grain just fine - glue a sacrificial board to the end to help prevent chip out or just plan on 1/16" to trim off when done planing. Try 100% tung oil instead of mineral oil. Much less maintenance, better finish (IMHO), but more expensive than mineral oil. Get your mineral oil from the pharmacy and NOT a woodworking store - exactly the same stuff but much much cheaper.

Do you use a Festool dust extractor with the ETS 150? If so, is there less dust than with the DeWalt?
@Toms_Woodworking_and_CarpentryАй бұрын
I do use the Festool dust extractor. I did not compare the dust extraction with both sanders. That being said, the Festool sander has more holes for dust than the dewalt. The Dewalt is still very good when connected to an extractor.

@Toms_Woodworking_and_Carpentry3 ай бұрын
A shop vac doesn’t have enough volume to properly extract from that distance. However, if you make the dust hood a little smaller and move it closer, it will remove some dust. I would try it and see. Cheers

Beautiful work. The only observation is to be careful with the miter saw. The piece between the blade and the stop-block has to be secured, whereas the off-cut can float. If the former gets pinched, it can create kickback.

Nice job! I think I'd start with Boeshield Rust Free to reduce the iron oxide (just because I keep it in my shop), then onto sanding and paste waxing, just like you did. Rust Free would work well in your miter slots, but would still require a bronze wire wheel (softer than iron, harder than rust).
