First off, nice setup! I found you on the xSim community while researching foy my own 6 DoF for a dedicated flight sim (DCS World). I absolutely love the motion setup, but might try and change seat/monitor frame over to extruded aluminum. Simply for weight, ease of assembly, adjustability and the option to easily add more controls/mfd's/accessories. But good sir, when this is finished you will be credited for the inspiration.

What would you think about mounting this on a super sturdy 360° Platform? The Platform would provide general yaw for corners and such and the 6dof rig would provide the finer details. I am thinking about building one for myself and this is what I would add. To solve the rotational interface issue you could mount the pc etc. on the moving platform. Driven by a hefty 2kw motor of course.

So I really want to mount a dirtbike frame to this thing and wear vr! Do you think it would work well? Might have to cheat a lil for the lean to keep gravity in the right direction but I already kinda figured that out. Looks like I could build it for about 6k CAD. You SHOULD be able to wheelie, you could slide like crazy and snap it back center for the effect. Am I wrong in thinking this would work really well?!? I'll build it if it will.
@Christopherknauf
@Christopherknauf 6 ай бұрын
i would be concerned with safety first, there is a 4 point harness on this seat now, and it still can be scary fast, and it can buck you out,...if you are not strapped. may need to wear full leathers and helmet !!!
@andrew-729
@andrew-729 6 ай бұрын
@Christopherknauf thanks for the reply! OK. If that's your main concern, I'll make it mine. I'll wear a dirt bike helmet and integrate the vr. I'll cover the gear and legs with something to protect if i landed on it. Ill pad the ground all around it and lots behind. One issue is there is no ground to slide your foot on, but I have some ideas, but that's for later. Just in your mind though, with it tuned to keep gravity into the seat and fake the lean, do you think the immersion would be like an 8 out of 10? This seems too good to be true but it should work amazing. I'm looking for reasons it won't.
@Christopherknauf
@Christopherknauf 6 ай бұрын
i would really want to keep the lean in somehow, how dope would it be to lean all the way down during a high speed sweeping canyon curve!!,.. though from experiencing VR in my sim, i suspect it would be very difficult to achieve without being very motion sick. it would take some serious dedication and years of tinkering to perfect.
@andrew-729
@andrew-729 6 ай бұрын
@Christopherknauf so I have put a lot of thought and chats with gpt4, the best way I can find is you don't lean the bike really you keep it in reference to the gravity and use the vr and force feedback in the bars to simulate the lean back to straight motion since it doesnt happen in real life. It will look 'wrong' if you aren't using it. But it should feel just fine. But yes, full lean is possible to simulate IMO. Plus loss of traction simulation the same as a car basically, then the tilt up for a wheelie, covers all your needs. A feed back vibration in the bike body for motor vibration and you're there... Thanks for the comments and inspiration.

Yea, I am a machinist and I understand what you are talking about more than people should, lol. a flexible cover with a thick layer of foam on top i think at minimum. I did see a professional 6dof with a real bike on it, but the motion SUCKED. I want it to scare me, but safely. I will wear full gear if need be. Also was thinking about a wide hard cone that acts like a cat cone over their head after surgery and follows the bottom of the bike OVER the linkages. It's solvable I think. But is it WORTH it...I know that's personal but from what you're telling me it will be! @@Christopherknauf

@@Christopherknauf Thank you for the reply. You can buy a 600W second-hand AC servo motor with drive in China for $80. How about the price in us? I'm a flight sim fan and often play War Thunder sim mode. I'm trying to DIY a 6dof seat that can yaw 360 degrees. I don't know if this will lead to a better flight simulation experience, so I would like to ask if you have tried it?

@@liutower316 about 200-250 after shipping per motor, these are 750w, could likely use 600 without issue as I have never hit limits. never used a 360 deg unit,.. from what i saw ,.. the common one out there only has yaw/roll/pitch,... just have to wonder if that is enough for you,.. would not be enough for me ...even though the yaw is 360,.. heave, sway and surge are nice to have as well. your results may vary.

is there a 'how to' for worm gear dc motors?
@Christopherknauf
@Christopherknauf Жыл бұрын
The inverse kinematic algorithm is designed for this Rotary Stewart style, not the linear actuator you would have with a worm gear. Also the DC motor would likely require a different interface, as well pid controller to drive the motors to the right location accurately, something the ac servos do natively

I used the Arduino IDE, but with a esp32 instead of an actual Arduino board... The esp32 is significantly faster for when controlling all the arms and being able to calculate the inverse kinematic algorithm 1000 times a second. A raspberry pI may be able to do it...seeing that it does have a significant number of gpio.. The cost of an esp32 is significantly less than that of the raspi though...at 10$ ish. This project is all open source.. feel free to ask more questions
