This was wonderful. I sent it to my daughter Emily who was very influenced by your work as a young clothing designer herself. I'd discovered you through my old and wonderful friend Dan Klein. He really got you from day 1.

I meant to post this on this video: 3 Things we enjoy about ASMR at the Museum: 1. The opening and closing of drawers and boxes, the sounds of doors, of footsteps, of clickity asmr voices. 2. The visuals that linger on satisfying elements of design, ratio, contrast, on stills that could be photographs themselves. 3. The history and showcasing of items at the museum and in the archives. I may never walk the halls of the V&A, but from across the world I am there today from my living room. These videos are creating a legacy for the museum while the museum safeguards the legacies of its many inhabitants.

held my breath when it was lifted by the lining. silk thread is so powerful to last all these centuries. if this was sewn with cotton thread, the seams would fall apart.

The woman who sold it to the museum must be from one of the families that looted the subcontinent during the occupation. This is no doubt another piece of art, another valuable item stolen by thieves in their relentless greed. This piece of art is just one of the hundreds and thousands of rare artifacts that have been plundered from former and present colonies over hundreds of years.

I presume that the 'satin' is silk ? Given that 'satin' is a weave and not a composition.

When you think that a century later Queen Elizabeth I had many hundreds of garments, often with similar embroidery and almost none have survived !

These places fail as a place for human habitation. If I didn't believe in free speech I'd say this presenter should be in prison for his views

It's always a tell when the presenter or institution can tell you down to minute detail what the fabrics, dyes & other materials are, how & when it was constructed...yet gloss over the details of how it became the property of a museum in the UK. "We're not sure", lol. "Perhaps a gift", lol. Gives a modern & lux spin to the old adage: THERE IS NO HONOUR AMONG THIEVES.

It's so sad that the origins are being called mysterious and it is being considered a gift when the mid 20th century clearly suggest that it was taken out of a collection from India during independence.

@ellen4956

The white lace dress was made around 1901, so bluing was used during the washing process to eliminate any sign of yellowing.

This is absolutely gorgeous. This art also extents to their carpets. I have seen, living in Iran, many carpets so intricate and awe inspiring. Usually, they are hung on walls, as to see and admire all of the fine details.
