Great popcorn video. I have a question though. Is there something you need to do differently when popping mushroom popcorn as opposed to regular popcorn? I recently purchased some mushroom popcorn for the first time and I bought it from a well known company because I couldn’t find Gold Medal brand anywhere either locally or online. It arrived right away and had the mushroom label, but I have popped some several times and there is absolutely no difference between mushroom or regular popcorn. Am I doing something wrong or were the kernels packed in the wrong container? What do you think?

Can you use cocoa powder as a substitute? That looks amazing
@PopcornGenius
@PopcornGenius 6 күн бұрын
That's a great question! I don't know if cocoa could be added to the kettle like this directly as we've never done it. I think it would be a great thing to try. Here are a couple ideas (but in full disclosure, we've never done this, but would make for some great experiments). 1. Make a kettle corn with just sugar and dust it while it's still hot with cocoa powder. 2. Mix Cocoa Powder and Sugar together and then add that to the kettle and pop the corn like you would in the video. 3. Pop popcorn, melt butter over the top of it and dust with cocoa powder and sugar. I hope that helps. If you do give it a try, we would love to know how it turns out. Thank you for watching!

Why use coconut oil for one and corn oil to the other? Sorry, I’m new to this
@PopcornGenius
@PopcornGenius 6 күн бұрын
No worries on the questions. Ask as many as you want. The difference between using corn oil and coconut oil is mainly flavor. They are both oils that have a high smoke point, so either should work perfectly fine in your popper. Typically anything similar to kettle corn like a sugar coating or glaze pop we use corn oil. Corn oil doesn’t add any flavor to the popcorn aside from the corn flavor itself. When we pop savory flavors we use butter coconut or a butter popping oil for that added butter flavor. We’ve also made kettle corn and caramel corn with butter coconut oil/butter popping oil and that is awesome! Here is a link to a bunch of questions that folks have asked in the past: www.popcorngenius.com/faqs Thank you for watching!

If you don’t use butter coconut oil could you use regular olive oil and butter?
@PopcornGenius
@PopcornGenius 10 күн бұрын
Hello, great question! I don't think butter would be a good option as the smoke point of butter is 350 degrees F. If it's heated above that, it will probably result in a burnt taste. Olive oil will work as that has a smoke point to about 450 degrees F. You should be fine without the butter as the seasoning should provide most of the flavor. Thank you for watching!

hi, do you clean your kettle corn popper for each flavour batch you make or can you just continue with a new flavour without affecting the quality and taste.
@PopcornGenius
@PopcornGenius 21 күн бұрын
Great question! We try to make the flavors in order from least color contamination to most contamination. This means that if we make any of the savory flavors, we do those first because it's plain popcorn and we add the seasoning after. Then we would do kettle corn as that is just plain sugar. After that we could make caramel, strawberry, or blue raspberry, but would then need to clean the kettle in between those flavors because of the color contamination. I hope that helps explain how we try to minimize required cleaning cycles. Thank you for watching!

PG, if one used this machine at an event, how many batches of kettle corn or other sugar based corn could you make continuously before you'd have to do a cleaning cycle? Thanks, and looking forward to your kettle corn episode.
@PopcornGenius
@PopcornGenius 21 күн бұрын
Hey! Great question. We haven't put this machine to the test yet in this way. I will say the kettle on this machine does have an anodized coated kettle which makes clean up much easier and you might be able to get by with simple wipe outs instead of full cleaning cycle. I wish I could say how many batches specifically before having do do a clean, but I honestly don't know. I imagine it's quite a bit, but I don't want to guess and steer you wrong. Thank you for watching and for your support!

@@VickiPeterson-Connell Thank you so much for purchasing our book and for the kind feedback! Ah okay, we actually bought that with a bunch of other popcorn equipment.
