Great video!! I’m training to run the Bear this fall. If all goes well I’ll be the second youngest finisher of all time at the age of 17. I plan to make a video similar to this to show my experience.

Awesome video, just a question regarding wearing a hat , does that keep you cooler as i strugle running marathons in the heat ?
@thenextmile7 ай бұрын
It is protection from the sun, but I don’t think the hat really kept me cooler except when I would get it wet or throw ice under it. The sun is brutal.

Hey Todd, great video, man. We ran together for a little while at the Bear. Looks like we were leap-frogging quite a bit at Tahoe without knowing it. I hit all the same landmarks with roughly the same amount of daylight - but I slept longer at each aid station. Great job putting it together. How'd the Bear go?
@thenextmile Жыл бұрын
I enjoyed running with you for a bit at the Bear. It was great to catch up and compare our Tahoe adventures. I suffered with the altitude at the Bear and finished with just 13 minutes to spare. But what a beautiful couple of days we had. How did your race go at the Bear?

Ok to clarify. 04:08 he says 'warm but not very hot' it was 97-100 degrees at the latter part of day 3 to Hoover Dam. . Shows the heat training is working when someone says those temps were warm and not that hot 😆😆

I've been a physio in Australia for 25+ years. THis is the closest I've seen on youtube to what I have adopted. I've tried a dozen variations taught by various reputable physios, and the use of tear drops initially then lateral strips, is what I have found to be most comfortable, durable, and therapeutic.
@thenextmile Жыл бұрын
I think just about everyone has their own take on it. But this is what I have had the most success with. I’ll vary it depending on the individual patient. Maybe add more or less tension on the teardrops and lateral strips. Occasionally I’ll vary the number of teardrops.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing! What did your training weeks consist of ? Did you cross train ? Weights?
@thenextmile2 жыл бұрын
I built up to 80-100 miles per week for a few weeks at peak, then mileage dropped as I integrated more hiking and treadmill incline work (so flat around here). I continue karate training so that is most of my "cross training". I always take some time between training cycles to work on strength and mobility again, but this tends to drop off as I hit higher mileage weeks.

Learning to manually adjust my ileocecal valve changed my life. I had horrible problems for years, including invasive tests and medications, until a naturopath taught me how to do this. Here's a basic description: The ileocecal valve is a sphincter muscle situated at the junction of the ileum (last portion of your small intestine) and the colon (first portion of your large intestine). Its function is to allow digested food materials to pass from the small intestine into your large intestine. One caveat: the longer you wait to make the adjustment the harder it is to get it to help. I hope this is the magic bullet for you,, it was for me. Not a cure, but damn good management.

Would this also be beneficial for our karate stances like keba and shiko dachi? Would it aid in depth, or would it be counterproductive?
@thenextmile3 жыл бұрын
The glutes help us lock into our stance. It would be great for not only improving our stances but also getting more mobile with our kogeki. Most of our drive when attacking comes from Gluteus Maximus and Gluteus Medius along with the calf muscles.
