Zizek: ...and their slogan is: ”we will enable you to find yourself in love without the fall”. But what disappears in this way is the very magic of love. For me, passionate love IS the fall. Interviewer: I'm gonna bring this all the way back to Occupy.

I mean he calls her supporting the 'ruling ideology'... That would be a mixed economy slowly falling to statism. She never supported that, she is constantly criticizes the idiotic governments that are strangling the freedom of individuals. I don't think he read much of her books and lectures.

No compassion of others in his vocabulary makes no sense if you refute the altruist morality. This is a guy who calls himself a communist. Honestly I don't even think she would want to talk to him.

Genuine question - Žižek is a very smart guy. Amazing stand-up comedian and a strong thinker. How can he unironically refer to Freud when he was antiscientific charlatan and it's demonstrated over and over and over. Just read articles like "freud was a fraud a triumph of pseudoscience", the book by Crews, and so on, and so on. The only useful thing Freud has managed to do is to come up with a set of practices so impotent, their continued application forced psychologists into coming up with evidence-based psychotherapy. So he is cognitive behavioural therapy's weird uncle.

Kinder Surprise Egg. A quite astonishing commodity. The surprise of the Kinder Surprise Egg is that this excessive object, the cause of your desire, is here materialized in the guise of an object, a plastic toy which fills in the inner void of the chocolate egg. The whole delicate balance is between these two dimensions. What you bought, the chocolate egg, and the surplus, probably made in some Chinese gulag or whatever, the surplus that you get for free. I don't think that the chocolate frame is here just to send you on a deeper voyage towards the inner treasure, what Plato calls the agalma, which makes you a worthy person, which makes a commodity the desirable commodity. I think it's the other way around. We should aim at the higher goal, the gold in the middle of an object, precisely in order to be able to enjoy the surface. This is what is the anti-metaphysical lesson which is difficult to accept. -Slavoj Žižek

The audio is totally fine. It's out of phase, yes, but listenable. Revisiting this in 2024 is interesting. The "next Trump" he speaks of turned out to be - Trump.

This clip seems to age worse and worse as time goes on, but we can still hope for kamala to win, and hopefully the republican party will be in shambles because of trump. If that happens, maybe we can have a less safe, more social democrat pick for the democrats in the future. There is still a chance that this was a good prediction, but if trump wins again, democracy might actually be on the line.

The first time I saw this I thought it was a parody, or created by AI. Then I thought "oh Zizek is doing an ironic advert for Kinder". And then I realised, alas, he's actually trying to describe commodity fetishism in his own convoluted way. "The poverty of philosophy" and all that.

Uber's public, and oftentimes state-supported, campaigns to call for a ride after a long night of drinking, rather than to drive, might be a little helpful in this context of contemporary consumerism. There is now a "responsible drunk", who while he destroys his body and mind, uses capital to avoid to pitfall of an arrest, and thus is able to repeat it as many times as he can afford. Zizek's talk on the subject seems to describe a change in a mode of production rather than ideological criticism of the social changes themselves.

Problem with communists and activists: I love Slavoj Zizek as a guy, but his case for communism basically consists of China (only insofar as it lifted many out of poverty even though it was communism that kept them in poverty until then, and now that that has happened, he admits China is not doing well), and then he waves at general ills of capitalist countries. That’s his entire case that he’s spent his life on. You’ll always find faults in anything, but that approach is the main flaw of the thinking of hardcore activists as well: they proclaim the ills of the system they are against and think it’s a trump card. It’s too easy. Bad, compared to what? You need to posit a plausible system that will have fewer ills. And plausible isn’t even good enough. Again, it’s too easy to say “just imagine the system I propose. It would be better. I won’t provide the details or the proof, but I’m virtuous for standing behind this idea”.

Bekhterev's Collective Reflexology could reveal bystanders on captured flights like United 93 as being collectively concentrated by collective egotism. The situation of listening to Zizek now offer's one the possible dramatic genre needed for Bekhterev's imagination and memory to become involved. A sense of collectivity provides a setting and description supported by physical details like crowds, Soviets, and committees. A psychological tone may detail symbiotic relationships where mushrooms are parasitic to their environment. Bekhterev stands as a partly decomposed corpse in the memory of the world. Zizek is still alive, but we may require a debate between him and the corpse of Russia.

Ayn Rand's bootlickers have to defend her by saying any critique of her is "isn't a real critique." It's the same reson Ayn pretended to like Greek philosophers that she never read. You like the idea of sounding like a debate master while rejecting any attempts of debate.
