thanks for the video, one question, is it necessary to remove something from the window lifter to be able to extract the lock?
@thebeetleman21 күн бұрын
Hello! Glad it was helpful! Not at all! I did not need to remove anything from the window assembly to replace the latch. It’s quite modular. Cables are the only thing that has to go around. It’s important to not take out any yellow cables like the pinned comment explained. But other than that, the door skin is the only thing that was nerve wracking to me.

Pain in the arm to get the new cabin one in. Purchased used 2017 beetle and looked like original caked filter . Yuck. Bought charcoal and sprayed LYSON IN SIDE THE BOX, gently not soaked, AND LET SET FOR 24 HRS BEFORE INSTALLING NEW FILTER. Engine ,except sweating the screws falling out much easier to install. Much thanks for the heads up. Will keep an eye on your site.

Thanks so much. The front clamp had me stopped in my tracks. You cleared that up ! Just purchased a used 2017 white classic convertible. Already had 3 compliments in 1 week and they quit making them? Duh! Keep it up. pS ,,,years ago a Salesman said to us VW spends their money on Engineering. 10 cylinder ford E-450 air cover access 2 quick relief clamps,Hyundai sonata ,1 quick relief, Pt Cruiser 3 spring release s, VW Beetle ,,,,don’t get me started ! 😅 but we did it,don’t drop a screw it’s gone forever,!

Hi thanks for the great video. Quick question I live in Australia my Beetle is right hand drive are these different on each side as I can buy them fairly cheap from USA and eBay but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to use them on a right hand drive?
@thebeetlemanАй бұрын
Hello! Good question! Unfortunately, the latches for the driver’s and passenger door are different. The key-lock mechanism on the driver’s side is different than the passenger side. If the lock cylinder is on the same side as mine, which in your case would be the passenger side, then yes, it would work. But if the lock cylinder is on your driver’s side, the latch for the U.S. passenger is different and ordering one from U.S. wouldn’t work. You may try local junkyards though as these parts are used on Passats, Jettas, and Golfs. I also suggest heading over to VW parts (I’m nature they have a website for Australia) and getting the part number and looking for that one on the internet or anywhere where it’s right hand drive. I would guess UK ones would work as well. I hope this helps. Wishing the best on your repair!

I had to replace a window regulator in my VW. The yellow connector in the door is the side airbag. Be sure to disconnect your battery before doing any work as your airbag trouble light will stay on.

I’m actually going to pin this detail as I didn’t know and it will help other owners. That’s good advice. Nobody would want to mess with airbags. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve just subscribed, I’ve got a beetle too here in the uk. Great video. I’ve just hd to recharge my battery after 3 days without driving..is that normal. What battery does the beetle come with..?
@thebeetleman3 ай бұрын
Hello there! I’m honored this video helped! I’m literally going to film a video about everything batteries today. But I’ll share some information up ahead: Yes, Beetles drain batteries over a period of time without being driven. It has happened to mine in just a week of no drive. I believe this has to do with the many computers within the machine. But l’ll research on that to give a better answer. The type of battery used for Beetle A5 (2012-2019) is the type H6 AGM. Be sure it meets with this spec, especially the AGM that is for high electric demands. It’s recommended to always wear protective gear when handling these batteries as they are lead acid and it can be corrosive on skin. Always disconnect the negative terminal first, and then the positive terminal. And connect again the other way around (positive first). I hope this helps. I should have a video about this soon.

Hopefully you’ll be back in your Beetle soon, without spending a fortune! What is the name of that metal piece and what is it used for?
@intensedabberoniJG3 ай бұрын
It´s the tow hook, found in the self-service kit inside the spare tire. It is screwed into the front or back bumper and used to tow the car in emergency situations.
@thebeetleman3 ай бұрын
@intensedabberoniJG Bingo. Mine didn’t have it when I bought it used. Better check that self-service kit before something like this happens!

Hey Bud, can the window controls come out without taking the door skin apart? One of the window switches doesn't work and I'd like to replace it.
@thebeetleman3 ай бұрын
Hi there! Yes! You can replace the window switch without taking the skin off. I didn’t do it because it might’ve been easier? In hindsight, it may have helped to take the skin off. However, I found this video that goes into detail on removing the switch itself. I hope it’s useful to you! kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5qXaI2eorelidU

can you show how to replace the gear shift knob on a manual A5?
@thebeetleman3 ай бұрын
Hi there! I can help indirectly. My Beetle is DSG, not manual. However, the Golf and Beetle share many parts! And I believe the Manual Gear Shift knob is no different. I found this video that replaces it on a Golf 6. I believe it should be the same process for a Beetle. I hope this helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipTci4eBZdhreq8si=pJCfeQPR1s0D35Fn

My Beatle does not have these lights. How can I put them on my car?
@thebeetleman4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, that is information I do not know at the moment. But I’ll be researching that and I’ll come back with that information once I figure it out.
@thebeetleman3 ай бұрын
I went ahead and looked up some YT videos and you can install fog lights to cars that don’t have them. I typically don’t like doing things to the wire harnesses, but I found this detailed video that goes through the steps for a Jetta. The difference would be getting the Beetle-specific body parts. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5jEomCNdr9lZ5Y

In my opinion it's ugly. I much prefer my 2017 model better. It looks too much like the previous model that I didn't like it looks like a bubble. It doesn't have the classic Beatle lines.

Ouch. I’m currently editing the video to showcase the repair. It’s quite complicated. Planning on launching it this week. However, $400, and especially if it’s OEM, might be a decent price. Still, quite an annoying thing that shouldn’t break. 😖

Although I love the Beetle. I dont know if it'll survive a modernization. Most people nowadays (including myself unfortunately 😅) love big touch screens and a digital experience! Unfortunately the Beetle has never been a "Modern" car. I never owned one. But ive driven my grandpas 1987 Beetle while visiting Mexico and I loved that thing! Ive gotten to drive the 2010 Beetle it wasnt my favorite but it was amazing! I fell in love with a 2015 Convertible Beetle but didnt have the means to buy it at the time. I have lots of hope for an EV Beetle and i hope they do eventually make one. I hope they are working to refine it while mixing modern tech with classic DNA. Because I've always wanted an Beetle and it would be awesome if it were my first EV and first Beetle

Hi there its me the one who comment at the Reddit. So I really wanted to get that bettle Fender edition manual with the 165k miles on it. I know you mentioned that i have to be ready for timing chain repairs? i looked at the car and test drove it. The car has minor cosmetic damages. not a biggie. there was NO rust especially underneath still super clean. The engine sounds very good. Drive and runs so smooth, clutch and everything is perfect from what i felt. the only thing that im worried is the mileage though. I dont know if its worth it to buy this high mileage car and im planning to drive this as my commuter to work. which is not really far i drive 25 miles back and forth. let me know what are your suggestion and thoughts please to help me make a decision.

I am so sorry I got to respond so much later. If it’s a manual, I believe you are much safer. Just get a nice independent mechanic as soon as you can for the repairs that will come. But I believe if it’s held up that much, it’s a solid machine. Really the only weak spot is that chain, but if it’s held up this long, that’s a good chain. Just be sure to replace it soon as preventative maintenance. I know it’s much later, and I’m so sorry for that. I’ve been focusing on university and the workload was intense. 😣
