Hi. I am returning to leather craft after a few years of ill health and want to do stuff that is not the run of the mill wallets/belt knives etc. This is the type of project I have been trying to do and I will be incorporating machine embroidery as well. I am not really a "ordinary" crafter type of person. I recently did one of those cardboard dioramas and have been trying to figure out how to do it in leather/machine embroidery etc. Can you guide me to your classes on the techniques for this work please? I would be really appreciative as I would love to put something like this in our little town's (country NSW Australia) annual show. I also just watched your 4 ft dragon videos - AWSOME! Cheers. Boofy

If you use a file folder, it already has a fold and it's heavy enough to re-use indefinitely. Also, if you draw the front side, then trace it onto the other side, you can draw and cut the belt loop out of the back side without having to tape it on.

I know I'm late to the party, but would you please explain the process you used to dial in the shape of the cuff so that it fit around your horn perfectly? Thanks a lot!

Amazing lyrics. I love it. Ranks up there with Buffets Pirate looks at 40. You have more than just leather skills. Keep tooling, keep writing. Who is the artist(s) singing?

I have listened a few times and I would listen to it more. The rhythm is upbeat and the lyrics are heavy, nice combination. The bridge is my favorite part of this song. I feel that way sometimes in this world that we created. So, when I feel that way I raise my flag, raise my sword and never bow my head. I think you’re right, there is a little pirate in me 😂🏴‍☠️😂 If this is the only one or there’s more to come, all is well because creativity has no boundaries and we are listening!

I know this isn't my usual content, but I hope you'll indulge me this once. And I hope you enjoy "Unbowed" as much as I do. Don't worry, this is most likely a one time thing. Pre-save link for Spotify: distrokid.com/hyperfollow/danielreach/unbowed-2

I have a few questions. How do you store your project over night and work on it the next day without losing all the moisture in the leather if you can't lay it aside on a flat surface? Can you roll it up and is there a special way?

Thanks so much for helping me learn. I suppose most people do start out with a belt or wallet. Not me. I'm making some Birkenstock sandals from "scratch". I disassembled some of my old Birks to get the pattern for the uppers and somewhere along the line decided that it would be a good idea to tool them. Luckily, I'm a firm believer in watching 10,000 videos before I do a new thing and you're one of my unknowing mentors. Wish me luck and thanks for all you do.

How much does this compromise the strength of the leather if I'm using the tooled piece on a shoe or other use that needs strength for longevity? Thanks!

Sorry for being late to the show. But thought I'd share something I've done for years. I recently retired from making kydex holsters for guns. One thing I learned in High School sheet metal shop was pattern making. In my holster business, whenever i wanted to toy with a new idea or design, I used paper. Instead of using leather or kydex I will take a blank sheet of paper from my printer and use that paper to draw out, bend, fold, cut & etc. to prove my idea will or will not work. If it won't work using a piece of paper, the idea/design will not work. Cheap and fast. I've not decided whether I want to learn this craft, but your videos are helping me in my decision process. I'm older, but just can't stop learning new things. Great video and great work all round.

Haven't been doing it for awhile. Just got back in, and realized my lifters were gone as soon as I saw your video. I keep sharp and dull. Dull ones for refining the stamps. Makes a world of difference. I was wondering why my work wasn't as good as it was. I need to go buy new lifters today. Thank you.

A lot of people like to divide and categorize art as separate from craft. It is my experience that art is in everything that is built. You are an artist. I love this example on leather.

Absolutely gorgeous ❣️ You used so many tools... A couple tools, I couldn't see how you used them... Why did you put something on the back of the leather? I need to find some leather to practice... I want to write my name and add some designs around it like yours... You did an awesome job... It's so beautiful ❤️

I wish I could get one of these Duane Watts blades but being from the UK Etsy bans us from buying knives (stupid? I know, imagine the laughter if you tried to mug someone with a swivel knife) that’s how ill thought out the laws are. I even contacted Duane but he doesn’t ship overseas. If anyone knows anywhere else in the US that sells them but will post to the UK please let me know.
