Awesome! It took me awhile to sketch this because I'm switching between windowpane tabs, and I'm learning to work along with the tutorial. I'm starting to get the hang of it! My goal is to design a walk-in closet organizer! I had a request from a handyman customer for it. (very challenging for me to build it) That would involve a sketch and a cut list of all the components necessary to build it. Thanks so much for the great lesson! I have a lot to learn. 😊

@@johncontos9577 can you describe this with a little more detail? I was actually working on a tea organizer recently for my laser cutter, and it probably uses about the same concepts. Are you a woodworker?
@johncontos957727 күн бұрын
@@KatAdair I was referring to a custom built in closet. That is my intended goal, to sketch it in 3D modeling format. I did the room sketch as described in your tutorial, if that is what you were asking about? And it is saved to the SketchUp cloud. I'm a carpenter by trade but I haven't built cabinets or furniture. I usually work in commercial construction. I would think that sketch up for woodworkers would be great for building the drawers in a closet organizer, and for detailing the doors for cabinets. Hope I'm making more sense.

When I try to copy the leg and move it to the right, it moves the whole leg and not a copy of it. What am I doing wrong? The instructions are easy to follow, but the program won't always do what the tutorial states should happen after following the directions. Not sure why? Well, I finally got it to make a copy of a leg, I had to press ctrl and then it would copy the legs over! I finally saved it after completing the table. It didn't give me the option to purge anything. I t just saved it. Does that mean I could have stray objects in my saved file? Hope not! It was fun to learn in SketchUp. I wish to get good at it one day! This was a very easy to follow tutorial! Thanks so much!!

@@johncontos9577 you will, it takes practice. 😃 Glad you got the leg to work… In the beginning when I learned Sketchup back in 2006 there weren’t any tutorials out there, it was definitely trial and error. But of my two favorite programs in the world, one is Sketchup, the other is ZBrush, although I have to say I enjoy Shapr3D on my iPad for 3D printing. Anyway, keep at it, you’ll do great!

When I installed the custom UI all the options are faded I cant seem to access them can you tell me why that might be happening
@KatAdair3 ай бұрын
It could be that there is no object on the canvas/stage that is in the correct format to edit, so none of the features are available. Be sure to go through the startup sequence…select the yellow “S” on the right, which is the SimpleBrush, then choose Sphere3D. Click and drag on the stage to place the sphere, and press the T key to enable the Edit mode. Then look in the upper right corner for a “Make PolyMesh3D” button. Once you click this button, the sphere should be editable and most of the buttons in the custom UI should appear. There are a few other buttons that will appear once you make the sphere into a DynaMesh object. Let me know if this doesn’t fix the issue…I’m by my computer today.

@@Luckycookiezin Keep me posted! It’s also a few years old, and ZBrush has changed a bit, but it should still work fine. It’s definitely a challenging piece of software…I’m trying to follow the iPad version and it’s like completely starting over with a new piece of software…

Since when is drywall 1/4" thick?
@KatAdair3 ай бұрын
@@MrSchmallz it’s not. Sorry, I worked in flooring for a long time, and Hardibacker is 1/4” for wood floors and 1/2” thick for walls. I made this video for a couple glass friends who just wanted to learn how to use SketchUp to design an art studio while we were stuck inside with COVID, and for some reason this took off. KZbin will not allow creators to upload a corrected version of the video. I’m so sorry I misspoke! Have a nice day anyway!

@@Knotmaul funny you should ask! I am about to design a workshop, although it will be using ICFs, but all the framing on the inside will be using standard framing. I’m currently on a road trip, but will be working on some videos here shortly. What are you trying to build exactly?
