Speaking of stretching, I, like my teacher - the late great Frank Miller can not only stretch a 4th, but I can stretch a fifth...as in on the D string first finger on E natural and fourth finger on B natural (all without moving my hand, only one other cellist I know has that reach, we happen t play in the same symphony together and enjoy showing off passage work where we do not need to shift positions nor cross strings.....we're the exception rather than the rule, mind you....

Thanks! Helping me write cello part w/double-stops. Tough to visualize if you don't have a cello. I'm extrapolating that G2 with C#3 would be possible from your fingering of the fourths.

We know what bow is doing...but the Camara does not show scale fingering. This was useless and a waste of my time if fingering not seen. Every scale you did is not fully seen but partially. Very frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry but when Camara not on fingering this tutorial was useless along with it is too fast to see. At least start slow so I can follow fingering...can't see it anyway from bad camera person.

Does hand or his helpers have a question forum of some kind. I am finally starting to progress after a few years of owning a cello. To keep practice regular is the disiplened way. Some children progress eclipses me by far but little by little right.

Why are double-stops called "double" "stops"? What is a stop?
@rominn21842 жыл бұрын
^ Because you are stopping two notes at once. You are playing on two strings simultaneously. You can see clearly why they are called what they're called. To "stop" a string on a string instrument means to hold it down with the left hand to produce the corresponding pitch (as opposed to the open string in which no finger of the left hand holds down the string). Double-stops are practiced by violin, viola, cello, and bass players for intonation and technical purposes that serve both the left and right hands. Triple-stops (so, three notes played at once) are pretty much the greatest extent to which a string instrument can bow more than one string at one time. A note value that calls for four pitches played at once, a quadruple stop, would need to be "rolled" or "broken" as we say in string player terminology since the bow cannot hold down and play all four strings at once.

Highly appreciated initiative. Thank you very much. As a low income pensioner I don't have means for private lessons, but love music since childhood and especially classical music. I have bought a cello to engage more in my life and found this site after a thorough search on internet. As an Asperger I find this way of communication manageable and in my case one of a very few possible ways to engage in my surroundings. One more, Thank you.
