Hmmm… why not two of the same lights right left… same distance same angle .. and why angling them upwards.. that’ll result in upper-and lower area of the painting getting not the same amount of light - adding a polarizing filter in front of each light will also help reducing reflections on the painting; often real helpful when artists bring in paintings already varnished .. sometimes even with glossy varnish - another suggestion is to use a macro lens.. that’ll be as sharp as it gets - last not least, using colour checker and white-balance tools for getting as close as possible correct colour reproduction in the file to make printing easier and with less need for test prints. -
@FlowWorksArtАй бұрын
All good points thanks Peter, yes agree two lights the same would have better results, I didn't notice any difference in colour / light in the end results. Thanks for the comment some good points you make.

@@FlowWorksArt - thanks much for your reply, James - I have been photographing my own wannabe-arty works ( and just occasionally other people's works) since about 2003 or so... mostly with space- and equipment-limited- makeshift set ups and then plenty post-editing required to make up for the in-camera- compromises .. Ha! .. and been home- printing on Epson since about 2008 - two tall 3 -5 feet strip lights - several mounted strings of LEDs - angled from right and left with the polarizing foil in front of them makes for even, non-reflective, shadow-free illumination (on the often rough brushstroke-texture of paintings) - and large paintings are done with several photos overlapped for stitching - ... and, by the way... your dedicated studio space with view over the green landscape... oh my... what a dream compared to the little apartment I am in here!! :-) wish you plenty fine artworks, photographs, and fine prints .. it's fun, for sure - ciao ciao. -

@@PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo Thanks Peter some great tips again, yeah I will be doing more of the reproduction in the future so I will be investing in some more lighting along the way no doubt, I did have to run a good few test prints in order to tweak and adjust the colour to get it as close as possible to the originals. But got there in the end.

I get confused about the sizing...when you create 1 meter square, can you have your prints enlarged very much? I see on your website that you have some pretty large digital abstracts ...
@FlowWorksArt2 ай бұрын
Hi yes you can enlarge them if you have created the file at 300dpi. Anything above 1 meter starts to be classed as large format printing to which then 200dpi is sufficient so you can get away with enlarging.

I love your process. However, I would have preferred your using less white. I love the painting around the 12 plus min. make where there was more definition between the two sides. But saying that, I have learned more by watching your technique. Thank you.

This is just gorgeous. I’m becoming more of a digital artist. I love my iPad Pro and Procreate. But I have been in a little bit of struggle lately. I have this habit where I start a painting, but then I get away from it and find it hard to get back to it. My problem is that I pick pictures that have quite a lot of detail in them and it sometimes becomes overwhelming. Do you have any advice for that? I thought that maybe doing some abstract art on the side would get me back into the rhythm. Like smaller/ simpler projects.
