Perhaps the most useful part of this video was the first segment, discussing the displacement of the moral calculus by one of efficacy, although the proxy war point seems to be getting more discussion. For that matter, among the Russians (the older ones, at least), the legitimacy of Ukrainian sovereignty has never been accepted, in effect making the whole business a civil war, attempt at succession, etc,. International Law, norms and borders be damned, senior Slavic brother has the right to take the knout to the lesser siblings. There is really only one way to respond to that argument.

Putin does not want to conquer Western Europe or defeat Germany again; his primary aim is to establish a buffer zone in Ukraine. He pointed out that Putin views this as a necessity, especially since a pro-Russian government in Ukraine was overthrown in 2014, a fact that is now almost universally acknowledged. He mentioned that former Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland was aware, through a leaked recorded conversation with the ambassador, of the preferred candidates for Ukraine's next government. He emphasised that there is no denying this reality and personally noted that he would not want to confront Putin. He also remarked that neither the United States nor NATO had ever been great supporters of Ukraine due to the pervasive corruption in the country.

LOL if the russians are the orcs this Vlad guy most be the Mouth of Sauron... What russia is doing is not only morally unjust, but also a war crime. russias current actions are so vile that they for ever will taint the memory of every russian not openly denouncing the regim. The only necessity here is Ukraines and Wests total victory over russia in Ukraine in order to discourage future aggressions. By any means or costs possible. The day the delusional mad man putin decided to have his coward green men spill over the border he embarked on a journey that only can and will end in his fall. If russia wants a buffer zone around their land they can build one on their side of the border, I actually think that would be applauded by all russias neighbouring countries...

I strongly suspect im not the only one re reading WW 2 histories. I hope some of our leaders have time for this too. Were all thinking about drones , cheap missles expensive highly expensive missles.... the role of our navies . I think we need to ramp up production and besides complex weapons also create cheaper drones and missles. And we need to look at N Korea efforts and at Hezbollah ,cand at Irans and Tutkeys capacity for production and freation of weapons. Iran is very very seriously underestimated in this general liberal democratic media world. So is Turkey , still. A thing i find frustrating in my reading , i wont mention historians. But theres a serious misunderstanding in a very English way of Lord Beaverbrook Max Aitkin. And we need a figure like him to ramp up weapons producyion , cheapen it and create an appropriate mix. And we also need to take a moment and igest the comination of primitive and advsnced systems by Hamas. Their effort was interesting hugely. And it showed a weakness if overly sophisticated weapons as the only approach...nit a mixture of aporoaches and weapons. Of Beaverbrook he wasnt in his Canadian incarnation shifty. In fact he was higly reliable and honest. He was a golden boy step and fetch it for the Halidax elite which is father understood with keen sociological insight in his role as Presbyerian minister for the elite of Halidax . He explaine the osycology and systems of power and mean little games of elite. Bur he evalued companies accurately for clients too common share for payment when common shares were like options , you valued companies usually from Bonds. He was hired by the Montreal elite and re organized the cement and steel industries , hes a Canadian Carnegie actually. He followed RB Beneft to Calgary , had a man crush. Now Bennet was amoung the greatest of our Prime Ministers.besides running a biwling ally which was wonderful , jad black Jazz bands etc he organized Canada cement and i think of him when i drive to Banff. He ran into a malicious Brit when he was evaluating a mine and resource of metallurgical coal. He truthfully said the mine was poor. And his enemy had the ear of high society in London including King George the Fifth. Thats why his Barony was delayed , why he only was a baron although he should have bern in the more powerful house the commons. But we need something like his stream lining of production. The Ukrainians need arial defences and safe regions so they csn make weapons they control with out Russian bombing etc and we can loan MONEY or give it . Money is cheap the North American economy has ocrans of wealth and this economy rasily could swallow most of the world order economy . We can send biions and trillions. We also need something like Truman and others creation of safe supplies of metsls in Canada in WW 2 and the 50s. I mentioned a good Canadian rate earths deposit found by the USA army i think in WW2. The USA military found and first developed Saskatchewan s uranium by far the best in the world. We can do these things with scarcely disrupting our lives but we need Trumans , we need Beaverbrooks. We ve a miraculoys ally in Ukraine , France had vast aircraft manufacturing in 1940s . It all feel to the Nazis because of their toxic culture esp political culture. The refused to fight...look at Ukraine they prepared to face Russian tanks with home made bombs on Feb 24. And we should aim at defeating Russua...i suppose its nit useful to express more distate for German caution. But we need some one like Beaverbrook , daring and innovative. I grew up on stories of old Calgary. I know we had great men remarkable men like Beaverbrook and Bennett.

If Congress alone has power to declare war then the President may only walk up to that line until the congress becomes so outraged they must declare war. Maybe Putin was hoping to win before politicians had a chance to consider the long term consequences.

The U.S. Executive is very stubborn. He pays off student loans, not pick-up truck loans, in defiance of our Supreme Court. He draws down the Strategic Petroleum Research to lower gas prices and make people happy with him. He refuses to control the border and enforce our laws. He insisted on a jiffy withdrawal from Afghanistan, leaving our interpreters and helpers high and dry. He's Commander in Chief with responsibility for our entire military and "the football." Information has little effect on him. I understand that people don't like Trump (I voted for Nikki Haley in the primary) but Joe is not playing with a full deck and Kamala Harris is King Midas in reverse. Thanks for reading my essay! Yes, justice is the first casualty when people are scared.

I called for Western boots on the ground (May 16th) , following Macron's gambit in March, because I believe Ukraine was at a crisis point with too few troops - and too few more than a few other key weapons as well. I acknowledged that Russia would attack these troops even if they were in the rear areas just freeing up Ukrainian troops for front line action. And I conceded that Western air power deployment would most likely follow if only in order to protect them. The West, esp. Germany and the US have denied decisive weapons out of fear of Putin's nuclear bluster, although I think retired Gen. Ben Hodges has a clear take on why using even tactical nukes on Ukraine would be his end, sooner than later. I would provide the link to my online essay at Substack, but KZbin does not usually allow that. And I also pointed out that Israel has gotten, quite a time ago, the more advanced jets we deny Ukraine, including the F-35's the most advanced and expensive of US aircraft. When I learned courtesy of the WSJ that Switzerland has F-35' sitting in an Alpine meadow air base, that was it: what are they doing there (aside from the fact the Swiss have the money to buy them - protecting dairy herds, chocolate factories, and Davos meetings? Unbelievable. Ukraine will get some of the oldest F-16's but ones also with limited range to better keep them from going deeply into Russia. By the way, the "Piper-Cub" unmanned drones Ukraine has improvised have travelled close to 1300 miles to strike at refineries. Cruel policies that US generals would never stand for if it were their troops in such battles.

When a major war breaks out, opinions will necessarily be polarised. Each side will have its own propaganda and the full truth of the matter may not be known until long after the conflict is over. While this situation exists it is important that calm and rational minds broker discussion between the extremes of opinion. I, for one, am glad that we have people like Vlad to help lead the discussion to more considered conclusions. Thank you Vlad.

Interesting video, but today Stoltenberg made a big mistake politically within the realm of NATO. He told the club med basically they are on thier own with the Russian advance in Africa. Moreover told them to pay more and is interested basicly with the northern club's northern borders. Already the reactions from Spain and Italy are a clear "no" to using their weapons on russian soil and they will decide not Stoltenberg. This will be interesting next month with the NATO meeting in the US...
