One thing that jumped out at me was your guest talking about different behavior he considers “normal life” that others consider preparedness. It resonates with me, having had the same experience several times. Prepping isn’t weird stuff, it’s just another layer of “I don’t want to be screwed” on top of what everyone else is doing.
@PartisanCommsGroup11 сағат бұрын
Indeed, Corsair does have a grounded approach to preparedness. Unfortunately, he had to end the episode a little earlier than anticpated. That day my area had a snow storm rolling in, and right as I ended the recording the storm knocked the power out. I guess it was an appropriate ending to the episosde considering the subject matter.

How do i unlock it so I can access 700 hz frequencies that most police use?
@PartisanCommsGroup11 күн бұрын
It sounds like you're wanting to use this radio as a police / fire / EMS scanner. First responders use a specific radio service and the AR-152 does not cover those frequency ranges. If you're looking to monitor police / fire / EMS your best bet is to get a scanner for that; however, in the past few years many orginizations have started transitioning to digital communications which adds a layer of complexity in monitoring traffic.

@PartisanCommsGroup oh fun. When I got my radio. I added an encryption key to it because I was in the navy and I had to if I wanted to use it. But now since I'm not in anymore the key expired so I thought maybe I could access 700 hz. (I didn't add the key the military police did for the base I was working at did)

Performing a factory reset doesn't affect the transmit range. How far you can transmit is determined by several factors (e.g. the type of antenna you have, operating environment, elevation, power level, to name a few).

Some Baofengs come from the factory programmed to transmit on a limited frequency range. Allegedly, a 'Factory Reset' may open them up to a wider frequency range. A use case might be for people who are, or intend to join the MARS program, and need the ability to expand their transmit capabilities. A full factory reset may also be helpful in resolving certain issues, but unfortunately won't fix inoperability issues such as a corrupt image file. However, the factory reset seems to be hit or miss. Some have reported factory reset works, some say it doesn't do anything, or the factory reset text doesn't appear on the display. My guess it may be related to the firmware version a given radio is on.

I use the same tuner for my 891. I load the internal battery tray with lithium AA's, and with every day use, it's still going strong after a year. As a back up, I carry a 9 volt with proper adapter to power it. A 12ah battery for the tuner will power it for a LONG time. I really can't see the worth of the extra weight and complexity.
@PartisanCommsGroupАй бұрын
I've heard from one other person that the AA's last a while since the tuner doesn't use a lot of power. I have a few other things I run off my external battery so that's why I chose that route. But, if one wantee to travel light the AA's will do just fine.
