Wonderful video. I followed you and your guide sine our Hawaii trip couple years ago. We are going to London 3 days and 7 days Paris and found your new channel here. I have a few questions in London. We travel with 2 kids, 78 years old mother. We will stay in a hotel across from Paddeton station. 1. Should we buy the London city pass or get the hop on hop bus day pass to do your 1 day itinerary to make it easy to transport between places? My mom can walk a bit under a mile before she needs to rest. I wonder HOHO bus maybe good. 2. I like to go see 1 place outside of London. I am thinking of Stonehenge or Bath. Any suggestion? We travel the first weekend of January 2025 Thank you for all of your videos. I am binge them this weekend ❤
@YourGuidesAbroad8 күн бұрын
Aloha Dave, excuse the late reply! When we run the numbers, we don't have city passes to be worth the hassle. A hop on /hop off is a good idea for your mother as you get to see a lot. Wear warm clothes for it! I'd say Stonehenge as it is a special place. Bath is interesting to see the Roman Baths but I appreciated the awe of Stonehenge more. I hope that helps!

Port out starboard home is claimed to have come from the trip between the UK to India. An extremely busy route during britains colonial rule. The claim being that POSH Would keep you on the shaded side of the ship both ways, keeping your cabin cooler. However, it’s not true. There is no record of the word deriving from sailing

Hello! I have a trip planned this Christmas to London and Paris. I only have three days in London but I keep hearing it’s not safe. I’m not sure if all that I’m reading is true. I was thinking of actually skipping London and just going to Bath instead. I’d love to hear your thoughts?
@YourGuidesAbroad15 күн бұрын
It is safe. Very safe. When we lived there the only thing you’d hear about Christmas is home breaking as thieves knew no one was home. Visiting is safe. In fact, I did a midnight bike ride with a group at Christmas as it is quiet and peaceful in the city.

Fantastic recommendations. All very good. We are thinking of trying the afternoom tea at Marks and Spencer on our next visit. How much did it cost you per person? Only 10 pounds? I thought it was 15 pounds. If it's 10 pounds it's a very good price. Can I buy more scones?

I remember going on Eurostar in the early days, my first trips were in 2000 and 2001, from the old Waterloo Station terminal. Everything was clean and smooth, sleek. Bit different now...and when St Pancras Eurostar opened in 2007 it was amazing. Just avoid it in summer if you can, go off peak.

That was a beautiful terminal at Waterloo. I think they have remodeled it as it became derelict for some time. It won awards for the design of the interlocking glass panels, I believe.

First rule of thumb when traveling, be polite. Say hello (even if it's just Allo). Learn to ask "Do you speak English" in the native language. You don't go to your local Grocery store or ice cream and start demanding stuff. They usually greet you, you greet them and then you order or ask you question. If you are an A-Hole anywhere people will treat like one. So whether you go to Paris, New York, or your local ice cream store. Be polite. It guarantees people won't spit in your food.

I say this a lot but if you want to travel and are looking for ideas to help afford it… I suggest getting a part time at a hilton… any hilton. I work at a Hilton and they give the best employee discounts. The employee room rates start at $40 a night. Hotel jobs are very easy to get without experience. Work for a few months to save for your trip and book with your discount! I have a london trip coming up and was able to get $40 a night. Also employees dont have to pay resort fees and if the hotel has a restaurant you can get 50% off the food if the hotel owns the restaurant. Something to think about

7:59 - The pastry shop in Belém doesn't make a single Pastel de Nata, what they make is the Pastel de Belém. The Pastéis de Nata are what everyone else makes, since the Pastel de Belém has a secret recipe and a trademarked name and can't be copied. The only similarity is how they look, the pastries themselves are obviously different. 🙂 8:28 - That's ridiculous, the monastery didn't close because it went bankrupt, it was closed because, due to the liberal revolution, all the religious orders were extinct in 1834. Only then the monks started making the pastry to earn money to sustain themselves, until they sold the recipe in 1837 to the place where the pastry shop is located now, which used to be a sugar factory.

2:14 - "Viagem" is pronounced "vee-ah-gem", not "vayahem". It has the same etimology as a word you're familiar with: voyage. 😉

Thanks for sharing. The Heritage Route T15 is a tourist service (private company) so it isn't associated with Transport for London. Oyster cards won't work. It is like booking a ticket for a London bus tour.

Boris Johnson didn't launch the bike hire scheme. It was the previous mayor, Ian Livingstone.

Correct, the previous mayor had the idea and funded the scheme but Boris was the mayor when it started. That is why they were nicknamed Boris Bikes and not Ian Bikes.
