Not overpacking the itinerary is a great tip. Our best experiences in Paris (or any vacation) were always just wandering, slowing down, and stumbling across hidden gems.

One of my best memory of Florence was 1 afternoon sitting on the terrace of our hotel, drinking a bottle of tuscan wine and snacking on local cheese and pickled veggie while reading a book. After a few days of activity, it was just what our brains, and legs, needed. :)

@ That sounds amazing. Our first night in Florence was spent just walking around and experiencing the city after the day-trippers had left. It was probably the best part of the trip and just a unique way to see and feel the city. Hope to go back soon

Great video about Paris. The little girl is so cute ! And the lady who is entertaining seems to be so nice and well prepared ! Just a few comments from a french (born and raised) viewer : First be aware that Versailles is very far from Paris and you gonna have to dedicate a whole day to your excursion to Versailles if you want to see that wonderfull palace and of course the gardens. Second : the Eiffel Tower is visible from almost anywhere in Paris and if what you want is just a picture you have some great spots (like the one pointed on that vidéo) but the simplest is Trocadero. But of you go right beneath it, it is gonna be an interesting trip you do not climb it. Third : be carreful with wine in "restaurants" : it's gonna be expensive and not that good. Drink water (free, like bread, thanks to Napoleon we say in France) and save your money for something else (the cliché "i drink wine in paris" is to my mind outdated ; if you want to drink great wine come in burgundy (where i leave) and you won't be disapointed ; in Paris it is just gonna be expensive but average ; but maybe i'm not objective : when i go to italy, any of the pizza i eat is better than the best i can find in France ; so maybe for an american, any wine he can taste in France is better than the one he would find in his own country...) Paris is a very walkable city if your trip is well prepared ; so just plan well your visits, don't be too ambitious (like " i am gonna go to the louvre and musée d'orsay and Quartier Latin to the Pantheon then to Invalides and finish with the eiffel tower" in the same day) ; of course everything is not "that far" from one to another but your legs (and mind) are gonna suffer ! But enjoy that great city that is Paris and be welcome ; most of the french citizens love tourists because we are proud of our country and our lifestyle !

re tipping - 15% service charge is included in the final bill - this is by law. If you are asked for a tip - you are being conned. Of course you can "round up" the bill, or leave a couple/few Euros, but tipping 15/20% is not necessary.

I loved the no tipping necessary culture of Paris. Far superior to the American system where customers compensate for servers' lousy wages.

If I may, you did not mention a convenient piece of information for Navigo card holder : accessing major Parisian train stations pay toilets, usually with on-site cleaning staff, is free of charge ; but only if you show your card, otherwise, you will have to pay like regular travelers.

Thank you a lot for the great tips! I'm planning to be there during solstice (longest day of the year), do you confirm that the first Eiffel Tower sparkle is at 11pm?
@YourGuidesAbroad10 күн бұрын
Sunset will be at 9:57 pm so they will wait till 11 for it to be dark. My money is on an 11 pm sparkle. That is what it was last summer

how is the weather in january? I´m going to Paris on the last week of january and i don´t know if it´s going to be rainy or just cloudy or sunny. I know it´s cold in there, but I actually don´t know if it rains a lot or the sky is just clear.

The weather in Paris is rainy all year long, just like London... Probably one of the worst in France. In January, you better go to southern France lol

Eurostar, good price??!!😮 You have no idea what you're talking sbout.
@YourGuidesAbroad11 күн бұрын
If you book a week in advance, it will cost $99 to $150 a ticket. In the summer, last minute is very expensive. But, if you book 6 months in advance then it costs $68 a ticket. That is a good deal to me. YMMV. We also enjoy the train experience compared to flying. One also doesn't have to pay for transport from the Paris airport to Paris. Not a lot, but it all adds up.

The day of travel, time of day, and selecting from standard, plus or premier makes a big difference in price. I purchased 2 months ahead, plus going one way and standard on the way back, RT was $320US.
