Tvland should’ve done an extensive two hour documentary on this show back in the 2000s including an exclusive airing of the first episode. A channel like Tvland was the perfect platform and resources to get the rights and show the episode for historical and educational purposes

The phono preamp on this unit is actually the worst part of the amp, if you want to improve the sound quality buy a dedicated phono preamp

Yes, this one does. The larger-sized VKT-series VCRs used a different convertor.

The episodes didn't "escape". George Schlatter released them. 55 years have passed. ABC has changed owners twice in that time. Pretty sure the network wouldn't care at this point.
@KBTime3 ай бұрын
@@Dan_KM8DAD this video was made before Schlatter officially released them. And if you don’t think decades old contracts can be used to make trouble, look up what happened when Ron Howard tried to use some footage from the Beatles’ She Stadium concert… 61 years later.

Interesting you should mention the BBC using these. I worked in a local radio studio in Malta in 1970 where we had a pair of these equipped with the 12" version of the original SME arm so we could play the 16" transcription discs you mentioned.....these were shows first aired by the BBC in the UK and then sent out to the far-flung parts of the 'Empire' (didn't know they went to USA though!). When I came back to the UK, I discovered a friend who had worked in Malta with me lived in the same road in a smalll West Country town (small world!) and he had brought back one of the 401s after the studio had closed. He didn't use it much, so I offered to buy it from him...£10, I think I paid him. He had fitted a Sansui arm, if I remember correctly which I replaced with an SME 3009 II Improved with detatchable headshell into which I fitted a Shure V 15. I still have the arm (fitted now with the new Goldring E4), but the 401 went in favour of a Linn Sondek.......I now have a modest Thorens TD 160 B. I'm surprised the 401 is so favoured today - I could never supress the rumble......and the speed adjustment was usefull if you wanted to play the record at the wrong speed, but not much else!

WKSU's Fresh Air programming was phenomenal . I was in "Verder Hall" '79 - '81 (art dorm) and it was extremely popular, especially as sustenance for all-nighters. I turned my roommate onto it and she promptly signed up to DJ - Liz Bernstein . Brian (last name ?) was a d.j. for Fresh Air and he got her in the door. . That time period was amazing for music with WKSU/ Fresh Air's very progressive programming -- along with the local bar bands, gymnasium concerts and the Cleveland scene. I am eternally grateful for all the amazing music I was exposed to during my years at Kent . It really introduced a level of sophistication and diversity I lacked before attending KSU .

Mr D is the conflict between being relatable (about how depressing fast food is) and trying to sell (fast food), a cautionary tale about marketing through relatability, because the two are in conflict on the best of days, that's why pyramid schemes are illegal. I remember a few months back when I first learned of Mr D, I got irrationally angry, little did I know I was only angry at my inner Mr D

I was a student at West Virginia University in Morgantown from 1977 to 1981, and for a couple of years I shared a sixth-floor apartment with some other guys. The apartment faced west, and if the weather was clear we could usually hear "Fresh Air" on the stereo pretty well. The show really broadened my musical tastes, and I frequently purchased LPs at a local record store just because I had heard the artists on "Fresh Air." Albums by Tangerine Dream and Joy Division are good examples. WVU didn't get its own student-run radio station until 1982, but fortunately it has a very progressive format ... though not quite as trippy as "Fresh Air."

I wonder if the salad bar was a money loser because the powers that be tried to make it have too much variety; therefore a lot of items would not be consumed enough and would have to be thrown out. When I and my friends would go to Rax in the early 80's (Marietta, Ohio), they had a salad bar but it had core items like eggs, cheddar cheese, olives, onions, etc. if I recall correctly. I think it had the right type and number of things. It also makes sense that they had trouble competing with the big salad bars of some of the buffet outfits.

During the early years of my childhood. Many of the older buildings and businesses had already closed up shop, but some still hung around for a while longer. The swinging BJ was replaced by a digital video board sometime around 2003 or 2004. Downtown Akron looks totally different with the additions of Canal Park and the Akron Rubberducks in 1997 and Lock 3 shortly thereafter.
