Thats exactly how I paint them, mini fat roller and the same brush/roller tub, but I use Johnstones opaque wood finish, it lasts for years

I lifted some carpet in an old farmhouse I was living in and there was a bunch of old newspaper under the carpet which was cool to read. There were ads for clothing and stuff, it was cool.

In the UK, it is easy to find replacement floorboards from reclamation yards. I was able to find an exact match floorboard for a house build in the 1730s.

Two things of note for me on the same job: oh, it’s lime morta, no wonder it is weak. I’m putting the bricks in a bucket of water for a bit and that helps the morta stick. My brick ties are a well chunky steel straps. It was cavity filled with flock.

Our home is a 1900s corner shop. Double common brick. Old school. I did my own hardwall whiteset plaster over lime cement render. Ended up doing it twice. Had so much more figured out the second time around. It's all in the preparation. I tried to plaster over existing plaster. Did the PVA, cut out the drummy render and filled with new lime cement sand render. Everything was looking good, but as it cured, it pulled the rest of the old cement render off the wall. We had cracks and bits of wall falling off. I just ordered a skip and tore it all off every wall. took them all back to brick and spent the next 4 days with a friend rendering the walls with the lime cement and white sand render, and another 3 days on my own doing the lime gypsum hardwall whiteset. My hands were messed. Lime is brutal on your skin....But. It's been the best investment. I was able to square up some wonky walls. The hardwall literally turns to limestone. Its like rock. Super hard. Trouble it, it takes time, its messy, you have to wait 6-12 weeks before you can seal it. The sealer is oil based, and the fumes are full on. It's 48 hours before you can hit it with a primer coat after you've sealed it. Given that, once its done, you'll never have to touch it....unless you decide to fully duct the range hood to outside 🙂 More recently I spent a day painting over some existing "legacy" paint . The product I had certainly stuck to the enamel paint, but that enamel peeled off from underneath, so it all had to come off. I took it all back as far as I could to the plaster and started from scratch. Didn't do any short cuts with the old horse hair plaster ceiling. I spent my time stripping it back, filling it and patching it, oil sealer binder, primer and two coats, all done with a brush on a ladder. Came up a treat. Every time I think I can save some time, it always bites me in the arse. I end up having to do it again. If I do it properly, it takes 3 times as long, creates twice the mess, but the end result is usually far superior

That is a lot of work for nothing. Just estimate and use thicker standers at the part that needs raising. Especially if you are going to plaster over the plaster board.

We've got loads of pipes like that on our landing and managed a really good job bridging the pipes with ply board. Though did install shims to make level, plus like you circled the correct screws and glued close the holes that would lead to a screw going through a pipe ...!!

or you could have used a simple string line across the face of the brick work and built the new part of the wall to that! bricklaying 101, then saved money buying brackets you didn't really need. SIMPLES!

Build the frame off the floor to the ceiling, then it only needs packers, and it allows for proper insulation.

Had a similar thing when I moved my sink from back wall in kitchen to middle of the kitchen onto the island. Running the maths was fun cutting though joists then bending keeping fall going. Had about 3mm of height left at the end. Was a sweating moment punching thru to the drains…no blockages yet 12 months on 😂
