How to build a garden room timber base

In this video, I built my first timber frame for a garden room.
I was surprised at how fast I was able to complete this project alone. This video covers everything from measuring, cutting, screwing, and bolting it all down onto DPM and insulating the frame.
All of this is DIY and its done with limited experience, but hopefully, that gives anyone watching this series the confidence to give it a go themselves.

Nice video!! Pro tip for anyone doing framing for the first time, your tape measure typically has markings at 400mm, 16 inch, 800mm and 32 inch intervals. Normally your sheet materials and plasterboards come in either 2400mm by 1200mm or 4ft by 8ft so you don’t have to make any extra cuts. I had a summer job as first fix carpenter when I was in uni, it was something that always stuck with me.

So many like myself take inspiration from these type of videos, and one thing that annoys me is the so called experts/ Keyboard warriors slagging people off who are willing to learn and give stuff a go. Nice work on attempting this, I would if I had the room to make one. Notei understand the importance of a snug fit for the insulation in the floor but couldn’t you just put some roof battens on and loosen your tolerance slightly so they slice in better and quicker, you’ll have to go round with insulating foam anyway to get all the little nucks and cranny’s anyway

Hi,you saying that your fitting insulation tight so it doesn't fall through..🤔..but timber will subcontract and contract, should have run some lengths of at least 2 x 1 underneath to fail safe that. I would expect that you would have been cheaper with a dpc concrete pad another dpc and insulation, wouldn't have used so much space off the ground, considering you'll only 2.5 mtr max to work with considering your surroundings

you're right, the insulation does need more support to stop it from dropping out of the bottom. I overcome this with screws in the timber. It's not shown in the video. Regarding the price of the foundations, when I did the calculations, it would have been about £750 for a concrete slab to be poured in place. With this area getting lots of shade and being at a low point in the garden, I had the height to allow me to lift the base off the floor, which I wanted for ventilation. Every project is different, it's hard to explain all the thought that went into this build because it includes so many factors.

I noticed you aren't using Joist Hangers. Is that something that is commonly not used? Is a garden room like a green house? I have only seen Garden rooms (here in the US ) attached to the home. Which is the same as a Sun Room here.

I do use joist hangers. I guess its like a sun room then

there's a reason why spacing is 400 or 600, to work with standard board sizes (1200 and 2400 dimensions). Commenting before completing the video, so I could be off mark. Good going though.

I do explain that later in the video. I wasn't using any sheet material so I didn't need to do 400 or 600 centres. But I advise that any building a frame like this should do 400 or 600 if they do want to use sheet material
