Do you not use the acrylic thinner when airbrushing? Just flow improver?
@NotSoAverageBuilder
@NotSoAverageBuilder 2 ай бұрын
Yup, I have used thinner but it makes the paint dry too quickly for my taste. With flow improver I can get a much smoother surface because it allows the paint to settle much more before drying.

@@NotSoAverageBuilder Thanks. I've been struggling to find a good blue/pink shift paint to be used on pink/blue horrors. Prism Power looks interesting, but definitely lacking in the vibrancy of the pink range. Same issue with GSW Pinky Blue.

Hi,can thin with mr hobby colour thinner?or only thin with water,d.Do i need to add tamiya paint retarder? Thank you.
@NotSoAverageBuilder
@NotSoAverageBuilder 3 ай бұрын
As long as the MR hobby thinner you’re using is for acrylics you can. The enamel thinner will cause major issues with a lot of properties of the paint. Again with the paint retarder you want to make sure it is an acrylic safe one. I mostly use the Valejo flow improver even when hand brushing to thin the paints

Do you snap built everything then dissamble everything to paint or do you paint before assembly?
@NotSoAverageBuilder
@NotSoAverageBuilder 10 ай бұрын
Honestly kinda both, mostly when it’s a kit I’ve never built before I’ll snap it together to see where seam lines are that I need to address and where parts line up that way it gives me a mental road map of how the kit will look and this also gives me ideas on color separation.

I apologize for taking so long to get back to you, honestly get yourself a cheap one off Amazon to start (especially if it’s your first) that way you aren’t afraid to take it apart and clean it and learn the internals etc. once you have your basic one I really like the GSI Creos top feed, easy to clean and sprays beautifully. I would stay away from siphon feeds because that are a pain to clean and keep clean.

I have not painted it yet, however when I do I’m going to apply a metal primer (tamiya makes one in a rattle can and it’s called just that “metal primer”) that way my paint will adhere to the metal with no issues.

I'm glad I came across this video, although old. I'm having the same problem with the 1/100 NG Astray Amatsu Golden Frame kit. I hate the plated gold and want to remove it so I can repaint it with gold enamel myself. I wouldn't think primer and paint would stick to the plating very well so it needs to come off. I'm going to try soaking my parts in Blue Wolf or Purple Stuff.
@NotSoAverageBuilder
@NotSoAverageBuilder Жыл бұрын
It was definitely one of my more “beginner” videos lol but I tried a bunch of different solvents to see what would take the plating off. This older kit’s plating acted strange like it didn’t want to come off even with the various solvents that many people recommended. I may get another kit and try a few more solvents to see what can take it off easier.

@NotSoAverageBuilder
@NotSoAverageBuilder Жыл бұрын
It really depends on how “bad” the area is you’re sanding down. If it’s just some nub marks then 600-800grit and then go up by 200-400 grit. Just remember!!! If you sand on the coarser grit for 30 seconds you sand twice as long with your next grit and keep going.

Those thinners are not essentialy the same thing. Tamiya will turn Vallejo into clumps. Vallejo does not like solvents and Tamiya has some.
@NotSoAverageBuilder
@NotSoAverageBuilder Жыл бұрын
I have never had that issue. I’ve even used off the shelf paint thinners(Home Depot bulk) to clean my airbrush and never once did any of my paints clump. I have used dozens of variants in the Vallejo line with thinners and not a single issue.

Liquitex make a Airbrush Thinner for acrylic paint. Also Vallejo makes their Airbrush Thinner. Both are designed to thin paint while keeping opacity and bonding of the paint. Ratio of 5 parts paint, 4 parts Thinner. Flow improver is good for reducing tip dry and is mixed in as 1 or 2 drops.

I have the Raser v1.5 and the plus glass files. They are my go to files and I find them indispensable along with their balancer polishing sponges. The balancer is much like the UMP gloss buffing pads, but they do a better job. The Raser glass files are different from any other glass files I've used with their micro bumps that do a fantastic job of removing styrene and polishing it at the same time. I bought Infini glass files and they do not perform like the Rasers. I think those are intended to be used like traditional files as they don't do a finer polish of the surface. But, the gate removal kit performs extremely well and I love it. At $45 dollars, it isn't cheap, but I find it well worth the price. The balancers by themselves aren't expensive.
