I just started working on this kit with the photo etch parts, when you painted it did you paint over the metal or did you mask it off?
@NotSoAverageBuilder8 ай бұрын
I have not painted it yet, however when I do I’m going to apply a metal primer (tamiya makes one in a rattle can and it’s called just that “metal primer”) that way my paint will adhere to the metal with no issues.

Man those will look amazing painted up, still I think that the chrome does fit the rg aestethic... maybe I'll mask some section to leave the bare metal showing when I get mine.

Sir, can I do the parts bending with several regular metal ruler and achieve a satisfying result? Currently I don't have access to specialized tools like yours, and if there's any, it'd be quite pricey for me.
@NotSoAverageBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Yes it would have to be a very solid ruler (like the metal that you suggested) and something small and sharp like a razor blade that can slide under the parts and still hold strong

Do I have to do sanding the attached surface of that etch parts? Anyway it looks promising when painted up man.
@NotSoAverageBuilder3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean the surface of the metal parts or the surface that you are going to attach the metal parts to? If it’s the metal surface then it wouldn’t make much of a difference, I would get a metal primer (Mr. metal Primer is what I have) it will allow the surface to take paint really easily. If it’s the plastic surface you’re placing the parts onto then you can, it’s not necessary though because you have to attach them using super glue which will kinda eat the plastic up to allow it to bond better regardless of sanding or not. I hope this helps my friend!

@@NotSoAverageBuilder Oh man my bad I meant the plastic surface. Thanks for your explanation.

Good job! What kind of paint works best for those photo etches? Are these things made of a thin metal?
@NotSoAverageBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Honestly if you apply the metal primer over the photo etched parts you can use any paint on top of them. And yes, they are made some super thin metal (possibly aluminum) that has been acid etched to create the small separate pieces

Do you topcoat before or after adding etched parts?
@NotSoAverageBuilder2 жыл бұрын
After. You could top coat before in a matte coat and then leave the etched parts shiny giving you an extra effect
@danjacobs884 жыл бұрын
Those parts look pretty amazing, shame you didnt add more onto the shoulders but overall it looks badass ^^ nicely done. Getting lucky with those not so secret supply drops eh? Haha
@NotSoAverageBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! That was all that went on the shoulder as far as the kit went lol there are still some metal marts for the decals that I can put on there but those won’t go on till I add the pla plate and scribing work :)
@grantagabon78414 жыл бұрын
For top coating the kit, do you apply the photo etch first then top coat? Or top coat then photo etch? I'm planning to use flat matte.
@NotSoAverageBuilder4 жыл бұрын
That depends on the finish you want for the photo etched parts. If you are wanting them to stay shiny then I would top coat before you apply them otherwise I would just top coat all together

how did you bend tho?
@NotSoAverageBuilder3 жыл бұрын
I used a photo etched bending tool for some but most of it I just used my hobby knife and my bench to create the bends needed

You mentioned you had found photos with the correct applications for these. Would you be able to post where theirs can be found? Nice job btw! Looking forward to trying these out myself.

Yes I sure can, it’s a larger file directly from the manufacturer but I can share it over via email. I’ll have to find it again on my phone lol Shoot me an email notsoaveragebuilder@gmail.com

Bro you use super glue or cement?
@NotSoAverageBuilder3 жыл бұрын
You have to use super glue with metal parts
@fdomain13 жыл бұрын
@@NotSoAverageBuilder Notice you are using a paper clip with the super glue, are you just dipping it in the bottle before applying? Looks great btw!
@NotSoAverageBuilder3 жыл бұрын
@@fdomain1 I am putting a little drop onto the paperclip giving me really precise control of where I put the super glue! Good eye my friend and thank you for the kind words.
