Hello Scott, you mentioned moving fore and aft with the monopod but you can also, with a rotating lens collar, move side to side, lowering your position. Nice photos.

I had trouble doing this in LRC. I wasn't able to get much texture back, probably because I didn't understand fully what the sliders do. I did download the Canon program and reduced the luminance there, but then I wasn't sure how to get the photo into LRC. Do you export in jpeg and then import into LRC? I may end up getting Topaz. I should learn the Photoshop technique but it looked complicated. I'm sure I will watch this video multiple more times over the years. Thank you for doing it, for sharing your knowledge!

I absolutely love being alone in nature. Being a woman, I do have to take safety into consideration, which probably doesn’t even occur to most men. There’s a screech owl in a park within an hour from my house that is getting a lot of posts. I’d love to go photograph it. But it’s actually a high crime area. All this to say, women photographers face challenges outside of conditions like light, wind, clouds, etc. When I retire, I aim to join a group that goes together on weekdays just for the safety of it.

I’m usually a morning shooter. I don’t mind getting up and getting on sight in the dark. I’ve got a 100-500 7.1 zoom. My issue is getting enough light for a good photo. I must not be steady, I find handholding under a shutter of 500 and staying sharp difficult. I can’t afford the big primes, and the weight would be prohibitive for me. I’d love to see a video on shooting with the medium zoom quality lenses in low light. Cheers!

Scott, I’m so thankful for your channel. You’re making me a better photographer. I’m 4 years into rebooting my love for nature photography. You don’t talk about gear you must have, or chase the latest tech. You teach the ART of photography. This is what we need. I’m striving to create a photograph, not snap a photo. You, yourself are inspiring me!! Thank you for teaching a 62 year old woman in the USA.

I bought a Benro Mammoth and needed a second tripod for my other rig so I bought this one on sale last ween on Amazon. The Sirui CT-3204 felt less stable though it is high quality. I just felt for the money, the Benro Mammoth was a better investment.

One thing that was bugging me, sorry...you know that if you pick mushrooms (even that dead one next to the subject), they will still grow back next year? It doesn't cause any problem. The "roots" of the mushroom, lead to the actual plant, the "roots" are like the stem of an apple to an apple tree. You know that you can pick all the apples off the tree, and the apples still grow back the next year? Thats how it works with mushrooms as well(if the growth factors are all the same ie, water, temperature etc). So go ahead and pick that dead mushroom, its OK. Also, big point, those specks on top of the cap..are not the part of the mushroom that the spores come out of..they are just part of the cap. The spores are released from underneath the cap....

Thanks this is a great video, I am inspired by the process of photography and learning about all areas surrounding it and not just one type but nature and wildlife are two of the main areas i enjoy, looking at others photos and grasping new techniques which help me imagine things in new ways and help me towards personal improvement in the subject as a whole

Thank you so much for this. I bought my first “real camera” 50 years ago (still have it). Over the years, I’ve taken thousands of photos, in most genres including underwater. Periodically, I would go a few months without shooting anything, mostly due to available time. The last time I was I the field was mid March of 2020, Canada went into lockdown three days later. Since the I’ve picked up my camera once. Was out for a few hours and took half a dozen photos and went home again. This video is just what I need, a roadmap to rediscovering what I loved so much about photography that got lost in a pandemic. Thank you Scott!
