I'm only 5 mins in but I love the aesthetic of it without all the casing on. It sort of looks really futuristic like it belongs in Stray or Cyberpunk. Loving the video btw.

What was that little program that you ran it looked like a video but very slow or small graphics or a game or something what was the name of that? Is it available somewhere?

At 11:39 it was the game "Star Wars" and then at 12:01 it was the game "Glider". I think that both are available on the MacintoshGarden website

I have three of those at least two of them 575s that work. I got one for 75 bucks work great but I’ve kept them all inside and or in a shed that was covered so the problem is you picked it up at a junkyard and that’s why I was there too much moisture too much anyway I have about 100 max at homeand all about two or three of them don’t work and they’re not really rare

I still have my LC475. Those darn caps. My power supply failed but new caps brought it back. My floppy drive stopped working. Just dead in the LC475 but worked fine when transplanted into my beige G3 so I replaced all the caps. Drive now got power but computer would not see it. Plugged a floppy emu in and it also was not recognized so leaky caps must have damaged something else. Not a huge issue since the machine has an internal SCSI2SD and externally a BlueSCSI so it can boot from either. I also did the resistor swap so running around 39MHz with a heat sink, same battery mod, added an ethernet card so it can go online with a wireless bridge, 32mb RAM, doubled the VRAM (need to check into the Satanic ones) and put in a full 68040. A Wombat so I can use a USB mouse and keyboard. There are some fun 90's games that play just fine on this machine. DOOM still struggles though.

First off, I love your videos. The captions, the thorough cleanings (what do you use to clean the cases?), just great stuff. I also have two 540c's. One has a cracked bottom case, but it's been thoroughly recapped. The other is an unknown quantity. Both boot, both run fine, but I want to do what you did and combine them. I'm still a novice, so I'll finish some other projects first, but thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you so much! For cleaning products, it depends on the surface. IPA can be harsh on some plastics and especially rubbers, so I try to start with water or glass cleaner (though that too can be damaging sometimes). I'd say about 90% of the time it's glass cleaner and paper towels / swabs as a first pass, then water and microfibre towel for the fine pass. Good luck with the 540's!

My first mac, bought it secondhand in 1994, had it until 97, remember the vram and a 8 gb ram stick were quite expensive here in Norway. Think i paid 2500 nok ( around 376 usd then) for a quantum fireball 1 gb hard drive, remembering it as a massive upgrade 😂 But here we are 30 years later, but now with a M1 pro, from 12mb to 32 gb ram. Would have been fun to try out hypercard 2.3 and photoshop 2.5.1 again. Great video!

Great video! Brings back lots of good memories from my younger 20s. I really need to get my LCIII out of its box and power it up some time. I have not turned it on in over 25 years at least. Yep, I need to check the board, battery (oh my gosh!), and PS before doing so. Shout out to 65scribe too! I have watched all of his KZbin videos. Awesome collab, hopefully he'll publish a new video too.

I have one of these. Thanks for the reminder that I haven't inspected it in a bit. I've been extremely lucky with caps so far. I know, I know. Had no idea about the overclocking ability. Are you running a full 040 here? The LC 475 typically comes with the LC040 (sans math coprocessor).
@iiidiy
@iiidiy 26 күн бұрын
I know that you know but... please recap it soon if you can, before chips/traces/vias get damaged. You'll save yourself a lot of work :) The LC475 did come with the LC040 at 25MHz and that's the chip I'm running here. The math coprocessor crushes benchmarks, but there isn't much (or anything?) I'd run that would take advantage of it... so I'd be putting one in "just to max everything" which wasn't the vibe I wanted on this build :)

My first Mac, a Quadra 605, has been stored in our basement since I upgraded decades ago. I'll never let it go. I had upgraded the chip to one with a math co-processor, added more RAM than it was supposed to have, and something else that I forgot what it was. I think it was an ethernet card. There was a PowerPC card for this, but I never bought it and boy, if I could get it now, I'd pick it up! Just because. I made sure the battery was out of it last year, and it was fine. I started it up a few years ago and things were good with it. I always thought that computers were fine for years in storage, but apparently that isn't the case... I have a G3 tower that won't start up. I lost interest in fixing computers years ago, now I just want them to work. So unless it is something simple I'd just pay someone to do it, especially capacitor replacement. Anyway, nice video!
@iiidiy
@iiidiy 26 күн бұрын
Yes, unfortunately capacitors have become a necessary service step before you can safely power these guys on. There are people that offer reasonably-priced recapping services... and if you are in America, there is often at least one table at the VCFs with someone offering the service so you can have it done in-person
@RandyRydberg
@RandyRydberg 25 күн бұрын
@@iiidiy Wow, thanks for the info! I was hoping that being stored in the basement for so long would negate that, but I'll have it taken care of before I start it up again! Thanks!

Had several hand me down macs as a kid. My grandfather would get them off lease after the company he worked for upgraded. Started with a mac classic, then LCIII, made a lateral move to the IIci, I think for the expandabability over the LC, then got a Power Computing PB240, then Powermac 6500 275 and finally a Power Computing PT250 that had a G3 CPU upgrade, before I got my first job and built my first PC.

I have done this procedure twice now and the buzz has come back. I can get the buzz to go away by moving the cable near the back of the TAM just right but it seems to be harder and harder to find that sweet spot anymore. I'm to the point where the buzz is there most of the time now.
@iiidiy
@iiidiy 26 күн бұрын
YES! I had the exact same thing as you. After doing the procedure in this video, it was good for a few months, then it crept back... slowly getting harder to find a sweet-spot. Tried adding tinfoil and electrical tape around it, thinking it might be RF :) No luck. I think it was internal. About 9 months ago I did a full teardown (covered in my other TAM video). Recapped all the main unit boards, including the power regulation board, and also added a little extra electrical tape to some bare wire on the main cable leads (where it connects to the regulation board). I can't tell you exactly what part of that process was the key, because I did everything all at once... but since then it has been completely silent at all cable positions!
