The 2017 is definitely the one to have however whilst obviously it’s not the RM’s fault (for once) there’s just been too many “special” sovereigns. Now obviously there’s been many notable events that merited a “special” sovereign but it just doesn’t feel so special anymore with a recent flurry of “special” sovereigns! 😅

In this video the 2017 has to be my favourite. I found mine raw from a pawnbroker online. When the package arrived the coin was in a ring box, my heart sank when I saw the coin wasn't even in a capsule but stuffed in the ring slot!!! Miraculously the coin survived with only a slight hint of a fingerptint on it, after a very gentle "clean" it looks fine now. My luck ran out with the 2016 Butler portrait. Found the 3 coin set, everything was going well (box, coa) until I had a look under a loupe... The half sov has a scuff on the obverse :( the full sov and quarter are fine though. Buying proof coins from online pawnbrokers is risky :) My soveriegn collection is also just about complete for what I wanted to achieve. A highlight along the way was finding an unc, George V, small head, 1931M. It's probably the only bullion coin I'd consider getting graded (perhaps the 1918 India mint also). Anyhoo... sorry to waffle on.

Really beautiful coins. Love Sovereigns. As someone quite new (8-10 months) into the hobby, I have some nice proof coins I would like to grade, and wonder if you could recommend an intermediary, or do you send direct to NGC?

Another great video, thanks. As a relatively new coin collector (6-8 months in), I notice you use NGC for grading and wondered why? Also, what’s the process (I guess you would use an intermediary?) I would like to grade some of my coins. Like you I prefer the numismatic value, but with an eye to hedging against inflation.

Great to see pride in ownership. I know it’s in a movie, but it’s to the point in today’s world. I dabble in new world coins. But gold is lovely in any design.

Imo best sov design is 2005 closely followed by the 2012 👍which I do admit to having full sov proofs

I get you with the Details "cleaned" I've seen hundreds of coins that have clearly been cleaned .. even harshly and still been given numerical grades... and others they "conserve" get details cleaned .. anyway... looking forward to the sovereign content!

In the US people love getting a nice high Au or UNC Ike. They just don't see such large dollars. nd you are correct it is those in high grade that are rare especially the ones from 1971 and 72 (both clad and the silver ones). By 1974 the silver ones were produced at a strong standard as well as business strikes improved. As for the ones with the lowest mintage I believe it is the 77-D at 11 million. Eisenhower dollars are an attractive and accessible series to get as long as you don't try for the very highest grades.

Nice vid. The top key date of Ikes is the "King of Ikes"; the 1972 Type II. It's the key date because of condition rarity. Despite 76 million stuck, only 20 exist slabbed that are above MS 65.
