Thank you for sharing your knowledge, but the PSW is a junk science. There are multiple papers critiquing the PSW model; you should read them. Here is one: DOI 10.1007/s40688-016-0094-x

Like I said in the video, none of the methods are great. Most schools don't have robust RTI that supports that model and discrepancy is obviously not supported by research. I mean, the DSM only requires underachievement for a learning disability which is a lot less than what we require in schools! For now, best practice is probably taking all data available on the student and their history to determine next steps. I do love talking about this and coming up with better solutions for students!

Hi Tiffany. This is a great topic and it appears to be a mile long and an inch deep. First, I am a school psychologist with 20-years experience. I even have a Ph.D. I also hate my job and have hated it for several years but the pay and family obligations keep me stuck and miserable as well as depressed within my position. I haven't found a way out yet despite even going to therapists and career counselors. Trouble is, the older you are or should I say the more obligations one has and the more experience one has the harder it is to get out of the trap of schools. If one doesn't have a license to practice independently, there are no real good options in my estimation. Having said that, because I have sought so many paths that didn't work out is perhaps the best that can come from this video's message is for people to come together in a sort of "virtual think tank" and pull our resources together to find something new to turn into a career that one can make money and be happy, positive, and growth fulfilling. I dread every Sunday and have been for many years. It's such a terrible way to go and not supportive of a mentally and emotionally healthy lifestyle for sure. I suggest people come together and really think about if there is anything in the field of school psychology they did like? What it was? What they absolutely hated about the field? If they had any good experiences within the field and what that was? For me, the politics, controlling administration, lack of funds, I hate having to be somewhere at a certain time and leave at a certain time (I need flexibility, life happens right?), I need to be around positive, like-minded people, etc. You get the picture. If anyone is interested in a think tank around breaking out of the field of school psychology let me know. 🙂

I am sure you aren't as bad at writing as you think/thought. Imposter syndrome can be a hell of a thing :) Very informative video, thank you. I'm very intrigued by this field as I am passionate about education issues, but had no interest in being an actual teacher and def not in going into straight up politics or advocacy unless I had education field experience in the first place. Of course, I also love kids and psych.

In California a PPS is also required for school counselors. I did my practicum and internshipsfor school counseling in an elementary school and 90% of groups were run by the school counselor. The school psych did not collaborate much and mostly did assessments and eligibility. Most crisis intervention was tackled by the school counselor and sometimes with the principal. Behaviors were managed by the team of Principal, school counselor and TOSA Teacher on Special Assignment depending on severity and the rapport the student might have with any of those stakeholders. I've found that the school climate and tasks are so different from school to school. I will be ensuring I ask who my team will be and my responsibilities when i begin to interview. I graduate this coming May! Side note: I was going to do school psych but then realized I wouldn't be able to do as many fun and creative groups and events with students because of all the assessments so I opted for school counseling. After my internships I know i made the right choice.

This video validated how I feel about Cognitive Assessment 1 class! I completed my first check out and admin, about to complete my 2nd, and about to type my first psychological report (for the WJ!) It was definitely a class that one has to be on top of to not fall behind, but Im grateful for the support systems I have and a good/helpful teachers assistant too! Thank you for that validation and the planner idea is definitely great!! I bought one for this year and one for next year! So excited to continue my first year as a specialist student in School Psych! Your videos are for sure motivating. I’m also hungry now after watching you and your friend eat! LOL!! Thank you both for sharing your experiences!!!

ABA therapy should be outlawed you wouldn't put your dog through the same kind of training I have ASD-2 I love being autistic I wouldn't change anything about myself as I would not be the person that I am today I am a 56 year old woman with autism granted my life wasn't easy it was a bit of a struggle I'm not going to lie I may not have a lot of friends but the ones I have seem to be really good quality friends and has lasted for many years we are not broken we don't need fixed we don't need pity although a little understanding would help us get along a lot better don't treat us like we are brainless or infantile just be patient with us we do take a little longer to process information as we are constantly getting bombarded by information we see the world in a completely different way as our minds are wired differently than every other person other than another autistic person we are not a shell of a human to be molded whatever way you see fit guy that invented ABA was a lunatic that kind of therapy doesn't do anything but cause the child to feel like they're wrong feel like they're hated disliked and teaches them to be nothing more than a puppet a subservient lower class and unworthy human and we're not we should be taught to embrace our autism and use what we are good at are special interests are hyper focus things we are just plain interested in doing and will go much further because of most neurotypical people I spent 56 years thinking I was worthless that I was not good at anything and just playing good for nothing which I learned that I was autistic at age 56 and just had a different way of thinking which means I'm still a perfectly good human being I just have a different way of thinking and that I'm a good person and that I'm also good at some things and not as good at other things and I don't have to be so hard on myself and love myself more for just being me and and I really enjoy art music although I can't play any instrument I like video games found out I'm quite good at them but I still wouldn't change a thing about myself I would not get rid of the autism that I have as it is a part of me it makes me who I am so I have one more thing left to say just help the autistic kids be the best kids they can be by letting them be themselves as they are not broken and they're not a puzzle to be fixed they should just be loved for who they are a perfectly good autistic person

@@DuolingoBirdiee hours are like teachers typically! Mine is 8-3 😊 salary really depends on the state you’re in (I made a tiktok about this before stating the different ranges). You’re looking anywhere from 40-100k starting. Education can be expensive! I would definitely look into NASP approved programs in your area to get an idea

Hi Tiffany! I started seeing your videos after watching MrsSchoolPsych’s videos and the vid you both did. Your information and here motivated me/was so helpful in my application process. I just got accepted to a school psych program (specialist program) and was wondering if it’d be possible to connect via email or IG message. I didn’t want to follow on IG without first asking! I believe you mentioned being in ESOL (English for Students who speak other Languages) and as someone who is a bilingual professional /was in ESOL herself, it’s motivating to see you in the field. I’m also a first time mom and would love to know your tips on juggling this program and a child! :)
