I really loved that they added the grates you could climb and flip back and forth on, like in Super Mario World. I'm playing this game again, and I love it! It's still frustrating but holds up pretty well in my honest opinion! ❤️

Playing on dolphin you don’t have to upscale, upscaling is a optional setting on every version of dolphin I’ve used Also a big reason people love emulators is because of upscaling and mod support, play games you love how you want

So much about the game would be given more depth if the starter pokemon came from an animal shelter, like pokemon that got taken from a neglectful or abusive trainer and rehomed to you, Cheren and Bianca.

Honestly, the talk about lysander with his mega gyrados reminds me how more fitting ghetsis's ace being hydreigon is. Ghetsis views pokemon as tools. a means to an end. and psuedos are typically the most powerful NON legend in each gens. So him using the unova psudo makes sense for him. like how lysander using gyrados makes sense. but where they differentiate is ghetsis's hydreigon is the one pokemon with 0 friendship and the move frustration. a move that benifits the more the pokemon hates the trainer. It shows ghetsis doesn't care for his hydreigon. he was only willing to play the long game to evolve his deino to hydreigon because its level of power. and while violet is 4 gens later, the dex entry they gave hydreigon makes this more impactful. ""It’s said that Hydreigon grew ferocious because people in times long past loathed it, considering it to be evil incarnate and attacking it relentlessly."" making hydreigon viewed as more a victim. a living entity tool used by someone for their own game. While lysander using a mega goes against x and y and mega evolutions whole purpose. If lysander was more manipulative and didn't belive his goal, you could argue a similar argument for lysander to use a mega like ghetsis using a hydreigon: Power. but thats enough of my yapping

As a pretty left leaning person myself, I think you're doing the left a disservice by viewing media through such a (what seems to me) narrow lense. You used the word 'conservative' almost as a derogatory term. The tone came across as belittling to hetero/cis people as if it was a bad thing, and you yourself stating you're a cis person came across as you having guilt or contempt for yourself. You shouldn't. I also noticed how in the "he touches her boobs without consent" part of the video, you failed to take into account that yes, while unethical and objectionable, if a boy were put into a girls body at high school age, (or vice versa) yes, you're going to check out the unmentionables. Probably many times. Most people haven't taken the time to consider the moral implications of taking such an action, PARTICULARLY teens/young adults. This part frustrated me. All in all, if you made these critiques to any center right, or even most center left people, it's going to hardcore turn them off of anything else you have to say, and possibly even the left sphere of thinking completely. Not everyone adgeres to as strict of an orthodox ideology as further left people. All in all, I enjoyed the video, but many peoole would enjoy more empathetic and less gender studies x intersectionality college course. 🙂

Sorry, but thats nonsense. I have no guilt or contempt for myself not being trans, not even a little. I am not adhering to a "strict leftist orthodoxy. There's no such thing; leftists can hardly agree with each other on anything. I am speaking from the heart in this video, true to my own personal understanding of art and the world. I don't care if my work would annoy conservatives. I think being conservative is bad. For a long list of reasons. To pretend otherwise would be insincere, and constantly worrying about what center right thinks of me sounds like a miserable experience, no thanks. I think youre projecting your discomfort with leftist ideas onto my work. I am not belittling straight or cis people. I do not feel guilty for being cis. I am not using these concepts out of obligation, but as part of what was a very honest and personal interpretation of the film. That honesty is what is actually important in art analysis. Even if people disagree, hopefully they can learn something from my perspective, and I theirs. But according to you I should refrain from criticizing something *because* most people hadnt thought of it that way. What would be the point of any of this then? (You say youre left-leaning yet use "gender studies" and "intersectionality" as derogatory terms. Thats very strange! Those are (obviously) valid and important concepts)
@OmynysFence
@OmynysFence 3 күн бұрын
@Skyehoppers I hadn't meant for my criticism to be hostile, sorry if it came off that way. The larger point that I was trying to make, was that while some people are beyond saving (MAGA people) we, as people who want less of the population to be conservative, should try to bridge any divide that's able to be bridged. I don't like conservatives either, *believe me*, but i think that there are a lot of them that haven't been exposed to rational explainations for a lot of the things that the left believes. It sucks that when I talk to a conservative, they get to play this stupid persecution game and act like I hate them because they're a christian straight white male. It's fucking cringe, and I would just like it if that ammunition were taken away from them. I do think it's important to worry about connecting with people to the left *and* right of the center, because I'd prefer if they would let me give them solid argumentation and moved further left. That's never going to happen if they sense an underlying hostillity towards their identity. I actually thought that what the majority of what you said was pretty thought provoking, I just disagree with (some of) the tone you used, wether it was intentional on your part, or not. I wouldn't ever tell you to betray your values, ideas, analysis, or expression in service of making people who you disagree with, happy. I was just trying to bring this to your attention, in case you were genuinely unaware of how some of your statements *may* come across to some more moderate viewers. Side note, when I say "gender studies" or "intersectionality" I don't mean them in a derogatory manner. I do think that they're important areas of study. I meant for those phrases to communicate some underlying vibe/idea. You know the one. The pink haired college leftist communist that all of the trumpers act like we all are, as opposed to what we really are: average people.

I see where you're coming from better now, sorry my reply was harsh as well. I do think there's a big place for genuinely trying to win conservatives over. But that was not the purpose of this video. I am well aware of how my work often comes across to conservatives. They have let me know plenty. It's interesting you thought there was a chance I didn't know. On this video in particular they take issue with the word "heteronormative," assuming it's either a meaningless buzzword or means "straight people bad." But it doesn't mean those things. It is a specific, useful, concise word. Just because a lot of vocabulary like that was been warped in many people's minds by anti-SJW content doesn't mean I should excise them from my scripts. Would I use it in a conversation trying to win the heart of a centrist? No. But if that's not my purpose I'm not going to cater my language to the prejudiced misconceptions of a subset of people who probably wouldn't like me anyway.

I will say while i love these games they do have their flaws, and they are also the beggining of a new "era" of pokemon in a sense, ever since them I havent really seen pokemon really try anything with its story, outside of the pokemon themselves not much is memorable in the games past x and y. I love a lit of the new pokemon but the games are always lacking. Past ORAS sun and moon were okay but Z moves imo is a step down from megas and the game despite switching things up on the gym side, really lacks anything on the evil team stuff to elevate it anywhere. Ulta s and m are bassically the same games and are a bassically nothing burger to ending the 3ds line. Sword and shiekd were fumbles for a beginning iteration of switch Dynamaxing yet another step down (albeit more balanced than megas but i digress) with a even more lackluster story. Bd sp are well, lame and undo a lot of what made platinum improve diamond amd pearl, and scarlett and violet while ambitious flopped for me. I expect more from the worlds largest media franchise, it doesnt meet the standards of a lot of nintendos largest ips and i really hope the lack of a major game this year is due to restructuring so pokemon can be at a higher standard.

Excellent analysis, i love the Windwaker so much, im glad i gave it another chance ❤ Only reason was because i thought it didn't look dark enough, but playing through the entire game and 100% it, it has a dark story much as you described. I love the artstyle a lot, even on the gamecube it looks pretty and not aged much. Also the music is fire. I loved the open sea exploration too, and the story is great. Loved Link's progression, he went from getting flung from that bird to kicking it's ass. Easy sure, but it felt satisfying.

i really adored this episode, and your analysis of it. i've come to realise that 'the fly' and 'salud' are probably my favourite breaking bad episodes rn - 'salud', more obviously, because of gus, but also the vulnerability walt possesses when under the influence of the painkillers. a similar effect is reached in 'the fly' through the sleep meds. for being the protag of a show about making drugs, walt never indulges in any, but the few times he's used sleeping pills, and painkillers, he's so painfully honest, and genuine. he's literally never like that in other instances of the show - to my memory, at least.

I've reappraised hated episodes of the Sopranos and appreciated them for their artistry, but to be honest with ourselves these "character development" episodes DO lack alot of the elements that make the main body episodes beloved. Imo the Fly episode gets too much love in this direction. It was the result of needing to use the same set and save money and wasn't a masterpiece.

Great video. I feel like BW2 recognised BW’s misstep in not having you pay a lot of attention to how happy your pokèmon are by making friendship be very important at the beginning of the game: you can catch a whopping 7 Pokémon that evolve by friendship before the third gym, including fan favorites Riolu and Eevee, and you’re given the moves Frustration and Return even before the second gym. Then you meet Colress constantly asking the question of what makes Pokèmon more powerful, speculating friendship with humans as one of the possible outcomes of his research.

Honestly I think z moves do a surprisingly good job of reaffirming sun and moons themes of supporting each other and working together to overcome challenges by having them distinctly involve the trainer visually sharing their power through the dance to activate them, the trainer even being visually exhausted when performing especially powerful ones like light that burns the sky

The problem with the Pachinko Machine level is that everyone goes about it in the worst way possible. You're not supposed to be using Fludd to get around inside the level. you're supposed to launch yourself from specific spots in order to land where you want. I realize this isn't communicated to the player and is still janky regardless, but I found it far easier and more fun when I played it that way.

Lysandre is one of my favorite villains because of just how much potential he had as a villain. In the past Lysandre was known as an incredible man and an incredible inventor, creating all kinds of devices and products to try and improve the world, he traveled the world to give his inventions and money to others, but when he saw that the only thing that happened was just people asking him for more and more, he believed that people were greedy and destructive, always wanting more until it's too late. At his core, Lysandre was a man who loved too much. He loved the world and Pokemon, but he physically couldn't stand the thought of things ruining this beautiful world that he loves so much. Pokemon Generations and Evolutions sheds some further light onto his character, stating that "Everything that is beautiful should stay that way forever" and "I can't stand the thought of the world becoming uglier". Lysandre hates change, and in order to fight it, he gathers up all the people he believes are worthy of keeping the world as he thinks it's meant to be. He loves Pokemon so much that he begins to weep openly about the fact that Pokemon cannot exist, as the ugly will only use them to cause more pain. It brings him pain to do so, but it's what must be done to ensure his world never changes. Of course some might say "but team flare is full of those "ugly" people, men and women who steal, extort, lie and cheat for their own personal gain, why would the fee to join team flare be such a high price? That could be interpreted as another part of Lysandre's plan. You can see he has no care for Team Flare at all, he uses it to gather all of the "ugliest" people he can think of in one place, they were never intended to be a part of his beautiful world, he was going to dispose of them all. He travels the region personally asking people he deems worthy to join him, while all the greedy and wealthy pay to join him, a sign of failure in his eyes. This contrasts with Professor Sycamore, the Player and their friends, who constantly show to Lysandre that there are other options, that his plan isn't the only way to save the world, that his vision of an ugly world might not even happen. But Lysandre is so far gone that he just can't see it, he even thanks them for trying to change his mind, but stays steadfast to his plan. And with no options left, the legendary pokemon of life/death taken from the machine, he decides to spread his belief to Sycamore's pupils, by turning the weapon onto them, so he can "give them the pain of endlessly waiting for a beautiful world to be built" giving them immortality so they can watch as his vision of an ugly world becomes reality. This action ultimately takes his own life in the process, and it's unknown if he even succeeded in giving the characters their "enternal life". "Pokemon Trainers, listen well. The future isn't decided, you can't be sure each day will be like the one before. You have the potential to change the world. Help build a brighter tomorrow." -Lysandre

The game’s story feels unfinished. It asks an intriguing question but never really provides a convincing answer. Team Plasma have a good point, but it’s undermined by their comically evil shenanigans. I wish the black and white tried with more sincerity to provide a resolution to the conflict between the player character and N. They did a really good job of presenting an ethical dilemma, but a bad job of framing a response.

While I did disagree at first, your vid slowly won me over, and even if I still don't fully agree with some of what you said, I do think this criticism of the game is necessary and Gamefreak clearly thought so too when making the newest games. Sword and Sheild took the idea of pokemon being more sport than anything and took it to its logical conclusion. But it also introduced a president, a literal politician with similar goals to Lysander. That game also has a whole town full of undesiables. There is a lot of variety in each location. Mega-Evolutions, at least how i see them, were never part of the core narrative of the story. While I agree they weren't utilized to their full narrative potential, at some point, you just have to admit that its a videp game. I would have loved an insane meta narrative where the player's dominance is questioned and ends up fueling the fascist rhetoric, but even media with deep complex themes like Avatar never explore to that level simply because its too much for kids. For what it's worth, pokemon delivers fascism well. When I was like 12 playing X and Y, I could see why Lysander was wrong. You talked about it breifly, but i don't think people truly understand the impact of Black and White of Gamefreak. For over a decade, fans begged for a more involved and complex story, and then Gen 5 dropped and was the least successful and most widely despised release Nintendo has ever had. It's not an exaggeration to say that the response to BW1 and 2 was a complete fundamental rejection by fans of story driven pokemon games. Especially when the main complaint by most news outlets was that there was too much story. XY doesn't exist in a vacuum, it exists after 3 years of Gen 5 and everything it tried to do being widely rejected by media, fans, and creators alike. XY and sold more copies than B&W. Gen 6 was the start of pokemon's climb back to global relevance. As sad as it is to say, Gen 5 was the lowest point for Gamefreak and Pokemon in general. It's sad because over a decade later, most fans choose gen 5 as the single best generation. But it needs to be realized when discussing how XY pulls its punches. The story takes a back seat because that is what people wanted when it came out. This comment has gotten really out of hand. I guess my greater point is that there is reasons why XY is like this.

41:31 I'm not sure where I heard this, maybe its a fan theory or something, but Lysander may still be alive, immortal under the rubble (specifically in X because of Xerneas’s summoning/rebirth/pressence/whatever.)I've also interpreted this to also be because of the direct impact of the laser which may have some residual life energy, I dont know. I like to choose its real because it makes the game more interesting (to no credit of the writing itself)

“Why can Gyrados mega evolve” Because Lysandre loves Pokemon. He loves the human race. He wants to destroy everything so that it can remain as it is rather than having to watch as Humanity and Pokemon get worse and worse through self-destruction. He just thinks he’s giving the world mercy by destroying it himself before it can destroy itself. That’s why you’re confused in that scene. If you actually contextually take into consideration that the gravestones of the Pokemon from the war are in fact the Pokemon themselves turned to stone by the weapon you’ll see what he exactly meant for “staying beautiful forever” for the rest of the world.
