drop the fermenting temp down to 17 degree with the kit yeast for more of a kolsch style fermentation, and this will improve the outcome, keep it as a can and a kilo for your great northern drinking mates or go the toucan for more of a carlton draft style but definitely reduce the fermenting temp to 17. also steep 250g of crystal or caramalt to give it some head retention. all these actions will produce a beer on par with a run of the mill asahi mega swill with only a modesty increase in cost. throw in 50g of cascade hops 2 days before racking and you have a mountain goat!

I've tried to do this kit twice now, and it failed both times. Even when fermenting at 18c. Tastes really chemically, off maybe, totally undrinkable. Down the drain both times. I've done dozens of coopers kits over the years, and none of them have ever tasted off. But this woolies brand, I swear there's something wrong with the yeast they ship with it. Feral.
@parrey19855 ай бұрын
@irish7460 only did it twice. I never had that problem, but I also think the main point of this brew is to get you drunk cheap.

I just stumbled across this video. Like you, I notice washed (or at least US-05 pitched from an active starter), takes off a lot quicker than dry yeast. But unlike you, I normally achieve a lower finish when doing this. Usually by about 4 or 5 gravity points. Awesome video man, thank you.

Should we not be blowing Woolies trumpet? .. Its a multinational cash grabbing company, wiping out small business via "competition". Why not promote the original idea of Home brew from the Coopers family in our beautiful🇦🇺 ? May cist $5 more to brew, but a lot less foreign investors..

Cost $10 but using slightly better ingredients may cost $17. Over 20lites thats a extra $0.25 per 750ml bottle. You tight arse. The temp is a likely reason it wasnt thst good. At 20c may have been slower and improved taste. Beer is like bread. Slow fermenting is better than racing it. Using tap hotvwater to dissolve sugar and not shaking fermenter is better
@paulgerrard922711 ай бұрын
The homebrand beer kit is probably coopers and perhaps a little light but should be fine. The crystal sugar in the homebrand packet is still pure cane sugar but will take time to dissolve v a finer sugar like a brewers sugar or even castor sugar.

I have been home brewing since 1986 and I have never looked back. I sterilize everything before I use it and I have never had any issues with off beer. When I first started brewing, I would bottle my beer in 375ml and 700 ml bottles and cap them with the capper. However, I saw the keg system in the brew shop, and it was love at first sight. I decided to buy a 23-liter keg system as soon as I could afford it, and I have never looked back 1997. I usually use a "brew jacket" to cover the fermenter and heat mat to maintain temperature at night, even during the summer (Queensland). I use dark brown or brown sugar the extra Malases adds flavor and tastes great. I find my beer brews within three to four days and then transfer the beer to my keg. Connect the CO2 gas cylinder to the keg and place it into my bar fridge and it is ready to drink 26 hours later. I enjoy the Coopers stouts, dark ale, draught and light ale beers. This is making me thirsty cheers.
