I have been home brewing since 1986 and I have never looked back. I sterilize everything before I use it and I have never had any issues with off beer. When I first started brewing, I would bottle my beer in 375ml and 700 ml bottles and cap them with the capper. However, I saw the keg system in the brew shop, and it was love at first sight. I decided to buy a 23-liter keg system as soon as I could afford it, and I have never looked back 1997. I usually use a "brew jacket" to cover the fermenter and heat mat to maintain temperature at night, even during the summer (Queensland). I use dark brown or brown sugar the extra Malases adds flavor and tastes great. I find my beer brews within three to four days and then transfer the beer to my keg. Connect the CO2 gas cylinder to the keg and place it into my bar fridge and it is ready to drink 26 hours later. I enjoy the Coopers stouts, dark ale, draught and light ale beers. This is making me thirsty cheers.

If you're brewing in Australia I can recommend Morgans, they make some sweet beer kits, especially their Ironbark Dark Ale is hard to get wrong, also with the yeast they use I find you have to have you beer in the bottles for just a week or so before you can drink it. With Coopers you often end up having to wait a lot longer, especially with their Lager. My favorite hops for dry hopping are Hallertau and Tettnanger (from Bavaria in Germany). Great for really light ales and lagers. Agree on the yeast you used, it's very solid, Saflager yeast is also super if you can brew in a fridge at 7-12C or so. Takes a long time but the beer turns out soooo good. Don't be surprised if you get funky smells for the first few days if you use lager yeast, is normal. Your can technique was really neat, learned a couple of things there. If it's really cold I also put my can in a bucket of hot water for half an hour before opening it, makes the whole lot more liquidy.

Hey mate just found your channel 👍 I'm in Townsville too, those inkbirds are awesome hey. Trying my first Coopers pale ale but brewing at 17 degrees and using recultured coopers commercial yeast. Have you tried the Mangrove Jacks Craft series? I have been through most of them and they are all awesome. Am keen to see what the pale ale comes out like, chugging along nicely at the moment. Keep up the good work 👏
@parrey19852 жыл бұрын
Haven't tried the recultured Cooper's commercial yeast, I know they have a premium yeast, but it's basically US05. I tried a few mangrove jacks when I first started, can't really remember what they were like to be honest. The pale ale came out okay, it's far from the best beer I made, but it was also quick and easy to make.

Hey mate just a quick question. How long did it take from the day you started to drinking? Plus, where do flys go at night? Haha.
@parrey1985 Жыл бұрын
From start to drink, was a little over 2 weeks. As a horticulturist and a mechanical engineer, I have no idea why you would ask me where flys go at night.

I'll have to give dry hopping a go, have only been brewing a few months so still lots to learn. started off with the basics. I just mixed a tin of pale ale with a woolies lager and 200 grams of dexrose and it has a bit of a chemical aftertaste. I'm hoping it will be fine once bottle conditioned. I'll probably drink it regardless hahahaha
@parrey19852 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure Morgan's makes "clone kits" (if that helps). If you want to buy hops, go to Facebook, look up "mates rates homebrew", "the hopping mechanism", or "crucial grain". But yeah, I drink everything I make, unless it's really bad

I added Cooper's "brew enhancer 2" No idea what it actually is, but it's what the recipe directed. Is kingfisher a recipe, or commercially brew beer?

Brewing beer is legal. Distilling spirits, no. It is a lot of fun

@parrey1985 oh wow! I'm in New Zealand and didn't know distilling spirits was illegal in Australia. Both are legal in NZ. Interesting pipe tobacco seems to be banned in NZ, which seems a bit silly. I assume all brewing and distilling is illegal in Japan?

To extend on my last answer. My move from extract, to all grain, was just that, there was no partial mash step in between, and that's because I'm a little "all or nothing" guy. I don't really see an advantage to partial mash brewing, you still gotta boil the wort, cool it down, and it still tastes like extract.
