My favorite Queen song...the weird part wasn't long, it was perfect.

Trolling before trolling was a thing. The moment you realized this is making fun of popular music was great Poppers lyrics here are so meta and the double entendre in the 2nd verse about Peter Pan and Captain Hook is sick. This song just makes fun of popular music and the fact that people rarely consider the lyrics of the song….. They just care about the hook. Also this chord progression has been used thousands of times. It’s the chord progression from “Cannon in D”. Now you know and knowing is half the battle as G.I. Joe said

LIVE concerts with Genesis were mind-blowing. Yes, those bass pedals made the Earth move. Genesis music is identifiable but so different. Subtle drama and humor. But I love the manner you are listening to this band. Let them lead us along on a lovely trip. Think you got some great ideas on the lyrics. At this point Genesis was feeling 'abstract' (not sure what that means).

There is an early version of this song called “San Francisco Day”. Half of the lyrics are different. “Gonna hitch a ride Sun lights the other side Music in my ears Play a hundred years San Francisco Day Love's just a smile away Harboring underground Bury me alive with your sweet sound”. It is about leaving New York and going to San Francisco.

While "Bob" is indeed a palindrome, the rest of Weird Al's lyrics were not. Palindromes are when the word means the same thing regardless whether the word is spelled forward or backward. If a word means something completely different when spelled backwards then it is an "emordnilap." For example, "star" and "rats", or "lager" and "regal," or "drawer" and "reward," are emordnilaps, not palindromes. Thus the phrase "emordnilap palindrome" is an emordnilap palindrome.
@ODragonwing17 күн бұрын
@@AlaskanGlitch incorrect. Every line is a palindrome. Palindrome - a word or phrase which reads the same backwords or forwards (Bob / Madam I'm Adam) Emordnilap - a word which spells another word when reversed (rats/star)

My childhood. My Dad has this record and we used to play it all the time. The whole albums great but I know this song word for word... Very catchy!! It's about man creating robots and then the robots taking over and the carnival barker is showing the last vestiges of humanity. ("There behind the glass is a real blade of grass!!) It's a very appropriate song for the world today with robots and AI. Emerson is more of a prophet less of a musician!!! I do however have an issue with John Doh's (if that's your real name) comment that Asia is a bigger supergroup than ELP..not even close!!! They had one hit.(Heat of the Moment) I guess that's a subjective statement though. Anyway....glad you're listening to good music. Listen to their self titled album as well with "Hoedown" on it. Also very catchy and fun!!! Peace ☘️

@evanbelisle8464Күн бұрын
Yeah, but let’s not pretend the ONLY reason people listen to music is because they care about a deeper meaning in the lyrics. I like this song because it sounds good. At the end of the day it’s a song about how gullible we are while still sounding amazing. Like how Galaxy Quest was making fun of Star Trek while being a fantastic sci fi movie in its own right.

You are trying to judge a song that was written before you were even born. You’re missing quite a few things here…… when this song came out it was pretty standard for people too. Let’s just jump in the car and go who cares where we as long as we’re not here….. It’s not about suicide. It’s about how to make your happy when you’re depressed staying in the same spot not gonna keep you from being depressed…… people were different than…. ☮️❤️🙏🌍🌏🌎🇺🇸❤️☮️

Dan Hartman, the bassist, had a very successful solo career and sadly died young due to the AIDS epidemic. Rick Derringer is on guitar here and he also has had quite the solo career. Edgar is in his 70s and still continues to play. He's currently touring with Ringo Starr. He has played sax in a lot of studio recoridngs, including Tina Turner's "Simply The Best".

The fathers of progressive rock. Who else would give you the evolution of communication - and music - at the start of the album, then launch into a kickass rock song? The Moodies started as a blues/rock band in the early 60s, changed their lead singer after one album, invented prog rock, took a brief respite in the 70s, and returned as a pop band. And they kicked ass all the way.

I loved the Trevor era of YES because 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' was my introduction to them, and being a massive Rush fan, I immediately took a liking to it. That said, I have never once thought of Trevor and shredding in the same conversation. It's not his discipline, and when I listened to this solo it struck me as someone playing a lot of chords and notes, but none of them really landing or amounting to much. That isn't to say I don't like a good shred, I am a child of the 70s after all and so I grew up on the rock/metal guitar Gods of the 70s and 80s. When you listen to Jimmy Page or Alex Lifeson, you immediately know it's them, but it they were to have done the shredding stuff it would have sounded off. To me there has to be more than just speed for speed's sake. One of my favorite guitarists is Paul Gilbert, and my introduction to him was with Racer X, but I almost never listen to his Racer X or old shred material. Rather, I love the incarnation of Paul Gilbert that developed with Mr. Big, because you got a touch of the speed but blended into songs with vocal harmonies, melody, and a great rhythm section in Torpey and Sheehan. Same with a Ritchie Kozen, absolutely love his playing and singing, but I never listen to his earliest shred adjacent stuff because that's just not who he is as a writer, a singer and a player. I could ramble on, but shredding notes absent any kind of overall song, reprise, or melody is boring to my ears. It becomes white noise. Young, unrefined me loved the raw speed. However, by my late teens and early 20s, my tastes had developed to a point where my mindset was "Okay, the speed's nice, but where are we going with this?" in terms of the song. I prefer my "shreds" to be moments of flourishes and embellishments during a song or as an aspect OF the solo, but not to be THE solo. I think Trevor is an amazing musician, and certainly it's a bit interesting to hear that solo, but tonally and musically that's not him. It would be like hearing a Stevie Ray Vaughan shred solo, I would want to hear it at least once out of curiosity, but that would be the extent of it. :)

Frampton wasn't that big of a deal before this live album. In fact, he may be one of the only artists who basically ONLY charted with a live album, because he put such a crazy good show on (and blew people's minds with that damn talkbox). Honestly, if you've heard his studio albums, the production really robs them of the energy his live albums have. A modern band who uses the talkbox quite a bit is Chromeo, a dance-pop duo out of Montreal. Their keyboardist is the one who uses it, and I'd say one of the best illustrations of it is their performance with Darryl Hall (yeah, that one) covering Hall and Oates' "No Can Do" at Darryl's home studio.
