Hey thanks, Ken! Always good to be on trail, any trail. I did a 6-day trip in the Ouachita’s back in late October. Took only pictures. A no video, R&R trip. Was great. It’s a 4&1 utility pack from Zpacks. Still going strong after almost 10 years. I prefer it over hip belt pockets, which I don’t have on my pack. Phone/snacks/sunglasses anything I want handy goes in there. My first thanksgiving off work in 4 years. Enjoyed the day with my family! Hope you & yours did as well.

Nice loop, Chris. Any other campsites that would have been better now that you've hiked the whole thing; or was that junction camp the best spot logistically?
@DixonHikes2 ай бұрын
Thanks, Cam. Nice lil overnighter if you’re ever in NWA. I would definitely camp @ Junction again, unless it was on a weekend - probably a zoo down there! Ha. 10 miles of the BHT is actually in the Ozark National Forest, so technically you can camp anywhere. Really nice campsite in Quail Valley @ mile 5.7 (counterclockwise option). Rock hole camp is small, right off trail. Several other sites along Blackburn creek. Perfect hammock campsite right above Butterfield Falls @ mile 10.7 with a nice view. Another good one is around mile 14.6 right on Lee Creek. Not sure if it’s “legal” as it’s in the state park boundary. Hope this helps!

Always loved NWA. Great hikes around Devil’s Den. A couple years ago, I almost stepped on a timber rattler there. You’re right - great time to hike in Arkansas in November. No ticks (mostly dormant at least), no chiggers, no poison ivy, no snakes.
@curly__32 ай бұрын
Oh, there's poison ivy... Lol... Don't sit up against a tree with a vine and rub the small of your back all over it like i inadvertently did one time in the winter... That was not fun.

@ we also thought about the ouachita trail, but I have seen so many negative things about it, between people saying it’s hard to follow to majority of it being bush whacking, im just not too sure with it being our first multi day backpacking trip.
@DixonHikes2 ай бұрын
I’ve hiked both of them, twice. I would say the OHT is the more difficult, and the OT is better maintained. Much easier resupply options & bailout points on the OT as well. Both are amazing hikes. If y’all are looking for a wilderness experience, I’d go with the OHT. If y’all are looking for more of an AT like thru-hike experience - I’d go with the OT.
@ashlovesjad2 ай бұрын
@ that helps a lot! We may just do the OT then! We are planning in summer of 2026 to do the Colorado trail, so at some point between then well more than likely do both the OHT and the OT…

Nice, Joshua! I really enjoyed the 14 miles or so I hiked on the LOViT. That was a WILD morning, riding out a tornado warning & multiple severe thunderstorm warnings. I’ll definitely return, possibly this winter. Thanks for the kind words regarding my channel. I break down my purpose of this channel in my final OT thru-hike video. I spent 6 days in the Ouachita’s back in late October. R&R hike with the goal of sleeping more hours than miles hiked, & didn’t film a lick. @DixonHikes4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the sub@@happycampers6592 I hang my food more times than not, but bears aren’t really in my mind here in Arkansas. Over 1,000 miles hiked in the backcountry & I’ve still yet to see a bear. I hang it to keep the little critters away from me. Odor proof bags have proven to be effective as well.
