I made an Atraxa with all the bounce spells and "Put target permanent on top of library" cards. It's quite effective in 1v1 but not so much in a group setting.

Yes, just build her as an energy commander. Energy is measured un counters, which proliferate. Energy is less "feels-bad" and more socially acceptable. The energy costs are balanced according to non-proliferate sources, which allows for some sneaky explosive and fun plays. It also has great ways to finish the game, along with aggro via +1/+1 counters, or fun options such as Helix Pinnacle (the green card that lets you put mana into counters, and if it gets 100, you win).

Pharika was pretty incredible to me when I first saw it, when I wasn't yet playing but would pass time looking at random cards (and sometimes read comments about them), eventually doing so got me back into the game. Pharika to me was cool because I have always loved token generators, and Pharika isn't a bad one. I like the idea of farming Constellation triggers, it seems like the kind of thing the deck should be doing. FWIW I think Pharika is probably about a mid-tier God, but I'm of the opinion that most of the Gods are actually pretty strong as Commanders, as long as their ability isn't absolute crap. OG Purphy has to be the strongest, but it's harder to decide which is literally the second strongest, maybe TBD Heliod, for the combo stuff?

My atraxa deck is no counters. Its actually an artifact recursion/thopter deck that i just needed the colors for. If i were to be serious it should probably be a sidar/silas deck.

@@will-ht3mc i explained pretty clearly why i dont like the design of atraxa. The basis was not “card good” cards can be good. The problem is atraxa is generic.

When coming back to Magic, I pulled the New Capenna Atraxa, and I'm a sucker for New Capenna. So I hunted for ideas and nonsense, and for a little while, I was trying to make Energy work. It... was bad. i played bad, the deck was bad, but it was comically so. Atraxa was a removal magnet, but the deck didn't do a lot when she lived. Props to the Vivid lands, though, for basically being all colors all the time. I took it apart just in time for a bunch of new energy toys, but I have no regrets. I learned a lot about synergy, and red got all the best battery-powered toys.

I know this is supposed to be an actually kinda good deck, but my silly Atraxa idea is just putting as many different kinds of counters into the decks as possible. In my Endstep I'll proliferate my Acorn Counter, my Shield Counter, my Oil Counter, my two +1/+1 counters, my Planeswalker Loyalty Counter, my Saga Counter, my Book counter, my Brick counter, etc.

What about level up cards and storage counter lands

Best atraxa I ever saw was jitte Voltron. The whole idea is to find lost and umezavas jitte. It always finds and protects the jittes. Gives atraxa protection, unblockable and double strike. Double strike and proliferate make the charge counters on the jitte just crazy. With rule of law effects, jitte abilities become more powerful and control the board Effects that force players to attack only with one creature usually means that atraxa player is unattackable. Finisher is combat but lost jitte and simic ascendeny have such a cool synergy also. Reanimate/play atraxa, equip it for free, get a huge amount of charge counters, control the board.

I've had an Atraxa deck in my head that's no +1/+1 or poison or other blatant value, only Spore counters for Fungus creatures (With Paradox Haze! A fun one missing from all the Fungus commanders)

This deck actually rusn pretty close to a theory craft I had, which was Atraxa spellslinger, with the 5 or so charge counter slinger cards. Obviously things like Dragonscale Elite help with consistency, but it's very funny I'm not the only person to go "counter deck.... I think I heard spellslinger" when brewing Atraxa

This is the most hilarious deck I’ve ever seen. Least of all is the sheer lore hilarity of giving Atraxa, who was formerly a CAPENNAN Angel in what I imagine were Bant Colors a shield counter mechanic (a New Capenna Bant mechanic). Thus essentially giving us a Glimpse of Atraxa as she was prior to compleation, where she lost herself after shielding the people of the Capenna from the Phyrexians by sacrificing herself, thus being a living shield counter.

I figured she was white angel. I think the other colours come from jin, sheoldred and vorinclex when they compleated

Ive always wanted to built an Atraxa deck around the most random one-off types of counters. Brick counters from Amonkhet, Vanishing counters, etc. Some cards could be quite strong while still being very silly, such as Four Knocks, Crack in Time, As Foretold, Rotating Fireplace, etc. 😂

I don't know how interesting or unique the deck would be necessarily, but one way to spice up an Atraxa list is to go literally all-in on counters. Ergo, your deck cannot have any cards that do not interact with or mention counters. Want a board-wipe? Filigree Sylex. Want ramp? Start stacking those storage counters. Recursion? Vat of Rebirth. If you're gonna have the most versatile counter-strategy commander out there, you better be using that for literally everything. Again, how fun that would or wouldn't be, I don't know, because your wincon would still just probably be poison or +1/+1s, but it'd at least make day-to-day interactions like spot-removal and whatnot just that little bit more involved.

Personally, I never played Atraxa, and probably will never play her. First, she´s kind expensive, and even if I go a bidget route, color fixing for 4 and 5 colors will eat most of the deck´s prize. I also try to avoid the popular commanders in favor of other missrepresented cards, only exception for now being The Wise Mothman, but that was mainly because that precon had many all the things I like about Sultai and Fallout.

Personally my fantasy route for Atraxa was to make it a secret commander deck for Perrie the Pulverizer in order to get as many nonsensical types of counters as possible. Edit: so apparently we went a bit similar just with different focuses though I will watch this deck with great interest now!

I don't know why people don't talk about shield counters more, ngl. If you aren't throwing the shielded creature into combat, the sheer disadvantage of throwing two removal spells at a creature to kill it makes shield counters border on being as effective as indestructible for keeping your value creatures alive. Frankly I hope wotc doesn't push shield counter accessability anymore but it seems inevitable at this point. Anyways this was a solid build, since we do have so few shield counter cards there were some fun limitations here and the overkill of loading shield counters on atraxa is funny.
