For the tech side, Zaku High Mobility types are space use and Zeon does make Mobile Suits that are stronger on paper than the Gundam which are the Gelgoog but those only start showing up later than what Requiem for Vengeance takes place. Edit: The show takes place around the middle point of 08th MS Team since Yuri was from that show and it's also around episode 25 of the original Gundam anime.

2:20 Nah. The Gundam (and guntank and guncannon) came first. It was a prototype for what would later be the remarkably unremarkable GMs, among many other mobile suits, including more gundams to come. Although in the retelling, ORIGIN, I think the order of which these mobile suits came out is changed. The Gundam is still a prototype, but I couldn't tell ya for what exactly. I wasn't interested in looking into ORIGIN at all.

at around 4:22 you both were discussing about beam weapons. Beam weapons were in use before the war, the problem was only large to medium size warships could use them at first. Both sides had access to these cannons. Zeon had attempted to make their own beam weapons for mobile suits but could never get it right and was put on the backburner for other projects. That was until the Gundam showed up and showed that it was possible to have a mobile suit use a beam weapon so easily. There were only a handful of mobile suits on the Zeon side that could use a close quarters beam weapon. Some examples are the Gelgoog, a mobile suit that could perform at the same level as the Gundam with its double ended beam saber called the beam naginata, and the Gyan, a mobile suit that fought like a Fencer with a rapier. A lot of amphibious Zeon mobile suits used beam weapons, but used sea water to cool themselves down after using them. So in the end the Gelgoog was the first mass production mobile suit for space that Zeon made that could use a beam rifle and a beam sword/naginata.

at time 1:42, that is the actual name of that unit, the Zaku tank. Taking the upper body of a Zaku and then putting it on top of the bottom half of the Magella Attack, then putting a cannon on its shoulder. The Magella attack can split into two parts, the turret, which can't rotate for some reason, can fly for a short distance, while the treads can operate on their own. It was a classic tactic for Zeon forces to take the Magella top and have the Zakus use it as a "handheld" heavy support weapon.

Yes other Zeon MS like Zaku and more are able to destroy themselves with their own weapon if need be We have seen it before 2: the RX-78[G]E Gundam EX piloted by [Gundam Pilot RFV] a prototype close, quarters combat MS developed from the RX-78-1 Prototype Gundam and develop into the RGM-79 GM [RFV] as you could clearly see this has better mobility armor weaponry and more compared to the Zaku II and Zaku Tank and other MS of its time equally they probably weren’t expecting a Beam weapon on a MS yet and I again you could see it shred it just destroyed the Zaku with no problem but sadly enough it was destroyed and the remaining information of this MS were lost so in return it was forgotten over the years that went by in U.C. This MS it has the [G] in the model number so it pretty much means that it is a ground type mobile suit just like for example the RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type so this is a ground superior MS pacifically, just built for ground combat and it did not disappoint in my opinion

Even in the first Mobile Suit Gundam series(hereby MSG), Zeon pilots were surprised when they first saw the MC Amuro's Gundam fire a beam weapon that destroys a Zaku in one shot. So it was good to see the Red Wolf squadron pilots also show the same reaction when they first saw Gundam EX's beam weapons. BTW, if assuming Requiem for Vengenace is canon, the notorious reputation of Gundam among Zeon soldiers must somehow not have reached the Eastern European front yet, since MSG ep 1 takes place in September of U.C. 0079(the canonical first time Zeon soldiers encountered a Gundam) and this show starts in November of the same year. And the Red Wolf squadron members were also surprised to see a Federation mobile suit for the first time, while the Gundam EX in this show is definitely NOT the main Gundam seen in MSG show.

iirc, when that Zaku got shot from the back, he did feel some explosion and turbulence, shaking him hard for few seconds, but there was no real lasting damage. That's how strong mobile suits are in general, compared to most other weapons.

zaku can use parachute or just use the thrusters to slow decent. Why a 150mm smoothbore can't penetrate a zaku armour? idk. it just can. For some reason the firepower is lacking. could be because of the cheaper less firepower put into the ammunition. idk Or just luck. hitting in between armour gaps would most disable them. Mobile suits can also aim quicker and also spray 120mms. so yea. overwelm cheap tanks. If a tank crew can survive a tank shot with just a little rattling. i'm sure the suit's overall size of a ms can just displace the force from a tank. Yea i haven't seen the series, so i won't be commenting too much. besides the already established lore.

Sounds like even though you only got a glimpse you still picked up why the fandom loves Zeon. Despite being the antagonists, they're usually portrayed as the underdogs who have little to no chance

Infinite justice vs destiny gundam?

Patlabor is my favorite non-Gundam "real robot" franchise. Unlike Gundam franchise, they are not soldiers fighting wars in the far future, but police officers in a near future world. This particular movie is a political thriller about the SVU(Special Vehicle Unit, basically labor police division) dealing with coup d'etat forces within the Japanese military. The movie has a very serious tone, is completely different from previous entries that were mostly lighthearted and comedic. FYI, the 1993 movie Patlabor 2 is chronologically the last story for the main characters who appeared in several Patlabor movies and series. BTW, at the end, the pilot is actually a woman(section 1 chief who was leading section 2 members who are the main characters of the franchise), who was not trying to escape but pursue the mastermind of the coup d'etat. The main police labor model is called "Ingram", although there are 2~3 other labors used by the Japanese police. Compared to Gundam franchise, Patlabor has a lot less robot action, but when the action gets good, it's cool. The mecha design is very cool, but the series is strongest with character stories. A new Patlabor series, titled Patlabor EZY, is set to air in 2026, a new entry since the 2016 short film Patlabor Reboot. The new show will be based on the Reboot film, introducing a new generation of SVU pilots and crew.

Okay, so you gonna need some explanation, the gundam you see in this fight that create illusion is called Destiny gundam Spec 2, this gundam is the upgraded version of the old Destiny gundam which almost got destroyed by the gundam name Infinite Justice The upgraded added to the Destiny gundam is about fixing the energy consumption problem and giving it more power About the illusion you guys talking, it is the new weapon called DUPE particles, this is new weapon added along side with other upgrade. The old Destiny indeed create illusion before upgrade but it only create illusion behind it back everytime it use Wing of Light (which the pink light when it fully open it wing) because the Wing of Light boost it flying speed to the point it create illusion. But with the DUPE particles, it create not only illusion but also duplicate that depend on how the pilot set it, it can deal damage to the enemy And yes, the duplicate ability use a lot of energy but because Destiny gundam use uograded version of Nuclear power which will recover energy by it own slowly overtime if the MS doesn’t use energy or receive physical attack (because Destiny gundam have Variable Phase Shift armor which is the upgraded version of Phase Shift armor and I believed that you two already know what can this kind of armor do) 1:32 deuteriom beam, this is not a beam for attacking, it is a beam for recover the MS’s energy during battle, this kind of beam usually apply for ship only since it use a lot of energy but Destiny have the upgraded version of nuclear battery and it energy consumption got adjusted after upgrade so the Destiny gundam can recover the gundam that the girl pilot (the girl name Lunamaria, and her gundam name Impulse Gundam Spec 2 and yes, this gundam isn’t nuclear powered). But don’t expect the Destiny to use this kind of beam all the time, it use a lot of energy Also, non of the enemy have beam gun on their chest, it was Destiny that have beam gun on it palm and it was used mainly for close range (kind of similar to Iron Man’s repulser blast on the hand but for close range) And the yellow hair girl that appear in this fight isn’t a gundam, she simply a ghost that haunt Shinn (Destiny gundam’s pilot), you can call her 1 of many part of Shinn PTSD but she didn’t bother Shinn, instead she protect Shinn mind if anyone try to read Shinn’s mind or try to mind controlling him And if you guys forgot, the old Freedom gundam already got destroyed, can not be recovered. And yes the main character name Kira Yamato now he pilot the better version of the Freedom gundam and it name is Strike Freedom. And yes in the movie the Strike Freedom got upgraded into Strike Freedom type 2

What's so bad ass about this battle is that the bad guy mechs were regenerating making the odds of the good guys aren't in their favor and yet in the end they managed to win the battle.

no the previous fight with the freedom that the freedom lost was against the impulse, the impulse at that time was piloted by shinn and now hes currently piloting the destiny gundam in this clip which is the gundam with red wings that dominated the fight and is essentially an evolution of the impulse being that the combat data and unit specification was used to developed a whole new upgraded mobile suit in the destiny (the impulse isnt scrapped and still exist now piloted by lunamaria aka luna, shinn's girlfriend who previously piloted a red zaku warrior) the whole duplicate/clone thing going on is something to do with the destiny's propulsion system and wing unit, without getting too scientific on how the tech work; back in gundam seed destiny a features of the destiny gundam is that the combination of 2 of its systems allows it to creates trails of afterimages when it moves to confuse the opponent in highspeed combat, the destiny gundam used in this clip is taken from the movie gundam seed freedom and since then has been upgraded into spec II hence the title, it has mainly the same armaments with some slight differences being that whatever propulsion system it previously used has been upgraded to create those independent illusion now, an inclusion of a railgun and while not shown in this clip, at the end of the movie the destiny equipped something called the zeus silhouette essentially an add-on that gives it additional armor, large thrusters on its legs, an array of missiles and a massive linear cannon more then twice the destiny's height that fires physical rounds with enough power to destroy massive super structures in 1 shot which is what it did destroying a massive enemy super weapon near the end of the movie the zeus silhouette is so big of an add-on the destiny even has to discard its long range cannon and anti-ship sword just to equip it because it occupies both of its back weapon moun but yeh uhh zeus silhouette doesnt seem to be meant for regular combat but just to turn the destiny spec II into some high speed sniper with massively destructive rounds something interesting about shinn is that shinn was definitely someone who rely on sheer brute force of his machine to do his job, he didnt really have 'precision' or so to speak but because of his new peacekeeping job as a member of COMPASS rather then an elite of ZAFT forces he was forced to learn to incapacitate enemies without killing them while piloting an unfamiliar gundam that was developed for precision over brute force and so was essentially shackled in a sense and had to learn to better control his skills and not let his machine's raw power do most of the work for him and the end result is what you see here in this fight where hes back in a gundam that was specifically designed for him and is allowed to just go and let loose, hes basically like zaraki kenpachi from bleach; immensely powerful and talented yet untrained and unskilled thus is liken to an unpolished gem but then becomes absolutely terrifying as hell when he does bother train and polish his abilities the destiny gundam itself is actually what sunrise originally intended for the freedom gundam to be when producing the gundam seed anime, the strike gundam can equip 3 different backpacks so it can specialize itself for different fights and the freedom in concept was suppose to be all 3 packs combined into 1 on the strike gundam, the original design was deemed to bulky and was thus scrapped for its current design as a high speed laser spamming machine but for gundam seed destiny when designing the destiny gundam the freedom's old design was revisited and it evolved into the destiny's current design with probably some differences like the palma fiocina as in its palm cannons for example and its wing unit and propulsion system so the overall body itself looks very much like the impulse gundam since the impulse is base off of the strike and the destiny's design is an evolved version of the original design for the freedom that was suppose to be something of an elevated strike gundam the original freedom design did end up being a thing as the perfect strike gundam which literally looks like they combined all its pack onto the strike gundam

To answer the question about the ghost guy, the guy who told Hathaway that the reaper won't wait for him, was Amuro Ray who died to events prior to this in MSG Char's Counterattack by redirected an asteroid base called Axis away from Earth before it could impact the planet. And, as Amuro is a Newtype (basically space psychics of a sort), that likely was his ghost talking to Hathaway which can happen with Newtypes of sufficient power.

This is my favorite anime movie of all time. Believe it or not, it's more of a political thriller than a mech movie.
